The River Medway flows for 70 miles and has the largest catchment of any river in Southern England. It flows through the North downs at the Medway Gap near Rochester before flowing into the Thames.

Taking off from Rochester Airport. Opened in the 1930s and used by Short Brothers where the Stirling bomber was developed and manufactured. Empire and Sunderland flying boats were also built close by.

A large paper mill is Sittingbournes main employer. Also processing of agricultural products is another large industry. Residential areas are growing as it has good rail links to London.
