Holger Sandmann
Hi guys, great review and we're of course pleased to receive such high praise for Pacific Fjords! I just wanted to point out that the reviewer's concerns about the glacier winter textures actually don't have anything to do with the textures at all. The blocky pattern that is visible in his screenshot is made by FSX's terrain shading algorithm that darkens areas that are supposed to be out of direct sunlight. This happens year-round but is much more obvious in the winter with low sun angles for most of the day. It's also more obvious on icefields and glaciers because their white textures and lack of autogen make small changes in the terrain mesh much more apparent. The only way I can think of how to reduce that shadow/no-shadow pattern is by smoothing the terrain mesh itself so that most of the small detail is removed. However, since glaciers are often surrounded by sharp-edged peaks and ridges that detail would then also be lost. Cheers, Holger
