Rodger Pettichord
Hi all. These past few days, I've been flying the home airports of those who responded to last week's invitation to name them (see Screenshots). It's been great fun to get a sense of where we all live. One thing, though, has become a problem for me -- I discovered the NVIDIA Control Panel, where you can adjust the display settings. So now I'm fussing all the time trying to get just the right tweak. This is getting ridiculous; I should just click default and get on with life. And that leads to this week's topic. THIS WEEK'S MEANINGLESS TOPIC: How much attention do you pay to adjusting the various display settings in your flight sim?
Iain Emms
Well then Rodger i set my settings over a year go and haven't changed them since I'm happy how they look. A few years ago I would mess about with them and still go back to what I had in the first place. My advice for what it's worth is if you are happy with your settings keep them life is too short to be messing about for hours trying to reach nirvana and not getting there. cheers Iain 4 2
Rob Abernathy
I'm with Iain on this one Rodger. I basically have setting on High with maybe only an upwards tweak for LOD. 4
Rodger Pettichord
It's not the performance I'm chasing, it's the appearance. Started too bright now it's too dark. Tweak, tweak, tweak...🤪
gumbypickett
I only recently went on youtube looking at the various settings that are recommended for p3dv5. I've only spent the last week reinstalling my sim after I made some boo boo error and couldn't be bothered doing my head in finding the problem. So now I only have to apply my settings and hopefully be back in business when I have free time. So tweaking is all I'll be doing now. cheers Gumby 2 1
larryisenor
I used to spend a lot of time trying to tweak the settings, but haven't touched them in a few years. I bought a new computer about 3 years ago and it seems to run fine. Most of the tweaking had little effect and seems a big waste of time if your primary focus is flying. Rob Abernathy
Maybe off topic but speaking of tweaking has anyone else tried REX's Atmos program? I've been able to quickly tweak some amazing visuals using it. 1
adambar
Every computer I've ever owned I have never adjusted anything, the way it comes out of the box is the way I use it. Seems to work for me😁 2
John Heaton
Being a graphics lover - yes I do tweak and being colour blind - others would probably scream at my monitor However since Nvidia brought out their ap - I leave everything to Mr. Vidia now as the item I put up a few days back 2
ikbenik
My PC is becoming an oldie, is about 10 years in faithful service however have recently some troubles. Had first a nVidia 8800GTX followed by a GTX680 and since 5 years ago till now a GTX1070ti that is still a capable card. I have since I started configuring FS2020 remain the, for me, best suitable settings. The same action did I with my laptop who has a RTX2070Max. They both run my flightsim's(MSFS2020, XP11 and AFS2 on PC and MSFS2020 and XP12 on laptop) on max 30 FPS for fluent flights. I will buy beginning next year a whole new PC with high HW-specs because I surely want FS2024 but wait a few months to avoid the first fixes and updates inherent on new commercialised SW. Regarding graphics I will consider the RTX4090 and 64GB as PC-RAM. Currently the network-speed is sufficient with >100MB/s for excellent performance. 3
boetie
I’m for ever fiddling with my graphics. I see some amazing stuff on this forum and on YouTube AND I WANT MINE TO LOOK LIKE THAT! Today I ordered my dream PC (see hardware thread) and I’m hoping to find my Nirvana. Cheers Graeme

Cheers Graeme Looking at what you already have - apart from the RAM - I have 48 - from the weekend trial - MS said mine - identical to yours was OK with Ultra all through and It performed well How did you talk the missus into it - or have you not told her yet about the new one😃

wain71
I used to tweak back in FSX and early P3D, mess with config files etc, now I really can't be bothered, I don't get much time to fly let alone tweak.....I find sometimes they give us to much choice so I now prefer to set it and leave it, still get some wow moments...I think though tweaking is an addiction...

My son's PC died on Monday (a terminal die) and we had a family trip booked to the UK for Christmas to visit the in laws which for various reasons we had to cancel. Anyhoo SIA gave us a full refund for five tickets and my son is buying my existing system for a bargain price. Wifey knew I wanted an upgrade and without hesitation said go for it! God I love her!
