Where2Fly

This video is a way of introducing 2 things - a great piece of freebie software of "where shall we go today" -  in one of our birds and take advantage

of our beautiful world offered by MSFS. - and to introduce you blokes to an old bloke - old pilot - and to spoken Aussie humour .

A few days ago we were asked -who did we use as regular go too's for our U-tube fixes in simming - and I failed to mention

a bloke that is actually my favourite.

Not because he is a local Aussie - through and through - but his attitude to simming is very much like mine - somewhat lacksidasical in nature

- sometimes anti establishment - but at the same time - loves flying in the sim and shows all his errors.

I don't know where he lives - but I think he must be somewhere around Brisbane - and was a pilot at some time - did his training at Archerfield

and he is old and qualifies for membership of the old coots on here. His videos are very rarely over 30 mins and far from boring

If you want to hear a genuine Aussie commentary - try hm out and subscribe to a real change in boring Utube summaries

Where2fly is great!. Cheers John

Have to agree! Since I don't care to fly to simple default MSFS airports, I just loaded a list of 71 enhanced airports (Asobo hand crafted, payware and freeware) into a custom group for Southern England and now the "Where2Fly" randomizer only picks flights for me in southern and central England that feature departure and arrival locations that display significantly better sceney than the cold "large structure" default MSFS airports.  This is an example of just one of the many features of the "Where2Fly" site.

Thanks @John Heaton for giving us a link to the "Where2Fly" website as well as a link to the very entertaining video from "The Flying Dad."

@wain71,

In order to create lists that will restrict the search, you will need enable Where2Fly lists.  To do that you need to register and once you are logged in, you will find a drop down option in the upper right corner where your login name is.  In the drop down is an option for  "My Lists".  Choosing this option will take you to the "My Lists" section where you can choose "Create a new list."   You can then name the list (anything you want), choose the simulator you are using and then manually enter each airport ICAO you want on the list.  I found that when I pasted a list of 71 airport ICAOs from a text file, the system kicked out several ICAOs with a "cannot find" type of message.  I knew some of them should have worked so I chose edit the list that I entered and then entered the rejected ones a single ICAO at a time and this time it took most of the rest.  It won't take an airfield not in the website's database e.g. EGHD, EGBI, EGWO, EGZY (RealVFR) etc.

After you have established one or many lists (I divided my lists by country groups.....e.g. Southern England or Alpine Countries or PacificNorthwest), go to the Search page and, after entering the parameters, you will get to a "Whitelist" parameter.  Choose "Restrict Your Search" and checkmark the lists that will restrict the search.  Then click on the blue space above the open restriction box to close it.  Then continue with the rest of the "Order by" parameters and do your search.

Hope this helps.

One limitation of Where2Fly...  The search will only return results for METAR'd airports (since the utility uses airport weather as a factor) which eliminates the many of the small airports I wanted to use it for regardless of weather.  Oh well.
