With about a third of its current five million residents born outside of Australia, Melbourne’s skyline mirrors its inhabitants’ diversity, from Gold Rush and Victorian architecture to ultra-modern skyscrapers. Moreover, the city is home to Australia’s second busiest airport, Tullamarine (YMML) and its busiest seaport – and, relevant to pilots, it’s also where the “black box” flight recorder was invented in 1958. While World Update 7 Australia added photogrammetry to Melbourne and about a dozen Orbx-made POIs, this new Melbourne pack has another 200 custom-made buildings and structures, along with the many other enhancements and features our Landmarks series is known for. Older architectural highlights are the Royal Exhibition Center, St Patrick's Cathedral, Parliament of Victoria, and Shrine of Remembrance, while modern highlights include the Melbourne Museum, Collins Arch, Dockland towers, and the soon to be completed Shangri-La and Sapphire by the Gardens twin towers. With Melbourne being such a bustling place, we’ve added animated features easily seen from the air, such as Metro trains on the viaduct between Flinders and Southern Cross stations, hot air balloons, and racehorses on Moonee Valley and Flemington Racecourse. For helicopter pilots, the Children's Hospital, Royal Hospital, and Victoria Police Center Tower have landable helipads. In addition, there are several floating helipads along the downtown and port sections of the Yarra River. The port areas west of downtown have received careful attention, with custom models for industrial buildings and container cranes, high-beam night lighting, and a diverse collection of ships and boats. Outside of the city center, we’ve added custom models of the key VFR reporting points of the Melbourne Basin Visual Pilot Guide, such as Doncaster and Parkmore shopping centers, Laverton BoM tower, and Victoria Police Training Academy. We’ve added animated features on land and in the air so keep your eyes peeled while exploring the city and its surroundings. As with all our Landmarks titles, we've made extensive enhancements to the entire area, terraforming, and improving the placement of vegetation and generic buildings. At a glance: More than 200 custom buildings and structures. Detailed representation of the Port of Melbourne and adjacent industrial areas. Helipads on several rooftops, as well as on floating platforms along the Yarra River. Animated Hot Air Balloons north of the CBD, visible on mornings with clear weather. Animated CBD Metro trains on the viaduct between Flinders and Southern Cross stations. Animated racehorses on Moonee Valley and Flemington racecourse. Many enhancements to the city and surrounding areas: improved vegetation and building placements, marinas, tall powerline towers, etc. Precise placement of our custom landmarks within the simulator’s terrain and the city’s photogrammetry coverage. Custom night lighting based on real-world photography Fully compatible with World Update 7 Australia and meant to be used with it. This sort of thing that adds to the emersion of the simulator, and also the balloons making use of all that Aussie hot air. Well done team. One payware, and one free. both surprisingly good. The Payware chopper also has 4 axis autopilot. you might need to set up a bunch of new buttons for your bump trim, but it's a good ride... though I do believe only the Mounties Careflight chopper in Sydney is of the correct variety of helicopter for a realistic VH- livery. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Out of Moorabbin NE then back over the city a couple of circuits then over the ports and north Absolutely wonderful I have apartment just off Spring St in the city and there is a new double tower Shangri-La Hotel and apartments being built. The buildings are topped out but far from finished and at around 60 floors will be part of the skyline (they are near corner of Latrobe and Spring overlooking Carlton Gardens. There are re a couple of cranes on the roof but the buildings looked more finished than they are. Team has been taken to detail the final build. Again wonderful detail. Came home, saw this city pack was out and downloaded it asap, after my first flight I then repeated our Saturday night out again in a helicopter....for those not familiar with the city of Melbourne this scenery is superb for detail and accuracy....I guess it helps that Orbx calls it home as well....and I know you OBX staff work at neighbouring YMEN so surely you can gave a little snippet on the status of YMML... neilfly Posted June 13, 2022 Share Posted June 13, 2022 Yes, for anyone not from Melbourne as Dr Smith says you can be assured that it is very accurate and a great rendition. I continued that flight out the Calder Highway and eventually landed at Kyneton. It is just wonderful. By the way poor little strip at Kyneton needs some loving attention, if there are any club members out there interested maybe you could team up with someone to customize this lovely little airport.
