flsm (Frank)
Come visit the world-renowned Vercors in France - an area of dramatic mountains, cliffs, gorges and caves at the western end of the European Alps - a key centre for the French Resistance in WW2 because of its fortress-like nature. See the "airfields" - just fields/paddocks - where the Allies did supporting parachute-drops of weapons, ammunition, supplies and personnel, along with some occasional landings, but were unable to prevent the eventual massacre by the Nazis. Would be nice to see an Orbx airport for Grenoble. Cheers.
John Mac
Great video Frank and a reminder to all of the cost of freedom! Imagine flying a DC3, low level, in the dark from a base in England and fly to a small village and arrive at a approximate time! Then return home! Hats of to those brave airmen. The story of the Vercor maquis is hard to imagine today but neither is it so far in the past. A member of my wife’s family was murdered by the Nazis for his resistance near Albi in south west France. Lest we forget! Kind regards, John.
