LOWI and always snow with Live weather

Recommended Posts

Hello, when I use the Live Weather in MSFS2020, I am always shown a winter landscape, even if it is 15+ degrees and sunny.

If I set the weather manually, then depending on the weather, it is either snow or a green landscape.

Have I overlooked any settings?

Kind regards

Not at the moment, but last week we had. It was also just an example that only one snowy landscape is ever shown. But only with live weather

Bernhard, I live in Innsbruck and it is snowing right now.

It probably depends whereabout in Innsbruck you currently are. As you know, it can snow along one mountainrange and be sunny on the opposite side of the valley.:)

I can see that myself, but is it so hard to understand that it shows snow scenery all winter? Even last week when it was 15 degrees and the sun was shining?

Hello,

are you saying that it is only snowy around the airport?

It seems to be snowing all over the place?

I don't think that the simulator can depict falling snow without also adding snow on the ground.

Of course there is snow everywhere today, because it is snowing. But last week we had 15 degrees and sunshine, the Orbx LOWI showed the winter landscape, but as soon as you left the Orbx LOWI scenery the landscape was green. So it's the Orbx LOWI, but what?

when you adjust the weather so it is not live, say summer or something are you still seeing snow? also where does MSFS get it's live weather from? were you using the REX weather? just test using a different date/weather combo to ensure the scenery looks correct in the summer.....can't believe it will only have winter textures...I have used it myself when it showed all different types of weather, could you possibly have just set it with winter weather and not realised?

No, I don't use an external weather programme and in summer the Orbx LOWI is airport and surroundings with green landscape. But just last week the weather was nice and warm, all of Austria was green in the flight simulator, only when I came to the border of the Orbx LOWI scenery there was winter landscape and that looked strange.

The LOWI addon does not set the weather. That is done via the weather options in MSFS which is under the control of the Asobo MSFS weather programme.

The default LOWI scenery is without snow and is summer looking. Any deviations to that are governed by Asobo's weather programme and not by the Orbx LOWI addon./

Jon, but if it is as Bernhard describes it, Orbx LOWI must be the trigger of the issue, or at least one of them.

Hello,

turning the ground white to represent snow, as Jon points out, seems to be something that the simulator does.

In my brief test yesterday, falling snow in MSFS live weather turned the airport and all of the surrounding scenery white.

Using webcams, I could see that it was in fact snowing at Innsbruck.

I then went to Graz, where the webcam indicated that it was not snowing and sure enough, there was no simulated snow and the ground was not white.

The only logical explanation that I can think of is that the simulator was registering snow in the Innsbruck are and not in the surrounding area.

A further logical conclusion is that as there was no snow function in MSFS when LOWI was released, it is most unlikely that it could include such a thing.

I cannot replicate the situation, but that should not be surprising, as there is no historical weather function to make a valid comparison.

Hi wolfko.

I do not understand how the LOWI addon is responsible in any way for the depiction of weather conditions.

Weather in MSFS is solely determined by the default in built weather options menu or weather theme addons like Sofly. Not by Orbx LOWI in any way that i can see.

I show 3 pics below which also show the chosen weather settings menu.

Real weather showed snow and low visibility as of today 16 March

The other pics clearly show that it is the Weather settings chosen options that are illustrating the weather.

The only very slight change in the look of LOWI is when you use the Date option and scroll through the different months. The pic becomes slightly brighter in May/June than say it looks in Dec/January.

No triggering of the weather illustration by Orbx LOWI addon, only by the default MSFS weather themes options or Live Weather

Hi Jon, as I understand Bernhard, that last week, when we had real world temperatures of about 15°C in the Tyrol, the whole area but the LOWI scenery was perfectly green in MSFS when using the MSFS live weather festure. Just as it had should been according to the real world weather at that time. Only the Orbx LOWI scenery had been a small, white, snowy patch within this green. For me this clearly indicates that there was something wrong with Orbx LOWI.

Due to the current real world snowfalls, the issue cannot be reproduced at the moment.
