Dylanear Posted March 10, 2021 Posted March 10, 2021 I have two questions about the current state of the London City Pack. A: Can someone summarize the new things added and what's been removed for the new version made to work with the Asobo UK update? B: I (very unfortunately) bought this on the in sim marketplace (it was on sale so I impulse bought). I see there's a mention of using the "configure" option for this add on in Orbx Central, but if you bought this from Microsoft how do you configure it? Or are those options not available to in sim purchasers? This is inexpensive enough I may just buy it again in Orbx Central and call it a lesson learned. Unfortunately the Topic ("Compatibility of Orbx Landmarks London City Pack with Microsoft World Update: United Kingdom") I had been following for these issues has been locked. Perhaps because someone was confused about how the MS Marketplace works and was being rude about it? (It's typical for it to take weeks for Microsoft to make updates for all products, from every single developer, this has nothing to do with Orbx. I've learned the hard way and will never buy anything from the in Sim Marketplace again because of this if it's available elsewhere. Orbx is always my first choice now.) Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought I got this update via the sim a while back?? I haven't taken the time to explore London since then. Are people still waiting for for the latest London City Pack update to get to the in sim marketplace??
Dylanear Posted March 10, 2021 Author Posted March 10, 2021 Also, as a related aside, it may be best to update these comparison images, or choose other scenery as an example? https://Orbx.group/about-Orbx/
carlosqr Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 Hello It is kind of difficult to number the elements changed in the package but I think they might have a change-log or so they can provide. Some are noticeable that are MS's What I know based on what I read is that a second update with more landmarks will be released soon, we have to wait. As per the market place, yes, they last longer in updating. If the product is in Central is better to get it there. Any update will be immediate. Though your question about configuring the product with the UK update having bought it through the market place is very interesting indeed. Let's wait for Nick's input tomorrow. SamScene for example stated that their Hong Kong cannot be configured to enable it to match Kai Tak freeware if you bought it through the market place as you can not manipulate the files, so I think this is a disadvantage of the market place, despite it has some good ones. Best regards, Carlos
Dylanear Posted March 11, 2021 Author Posted March 11, 2021 Thanks for those points Carlos. While the in Sim Market place had me excited, because it can be annoying to keep all your products updated when they are from many different places, it has really disappointed me and I only now use it on occasion to glance for new products so I can buy them elsewhere! The excessive delays and now the seeming inability to configure add ons has completely turned me off to ever using it again. Orbx does a better job than anyone else at providing a one stop place to buy and update a good chunk of available flight sim add ons, but it certainly doesn't offer everything, so I still do plenty of dancing around the internet when I want to make sure my Community folder is up to date! The London pack is pretty inexpensive. Depending on what config options it has and if they are truly completely unavailable with the in sim version I might just buy it again on here. Now if there was a bundle price to get it and EGLC London City Airport together, I'd be especially inclined to do that. I'd love to see a bundle for Sydney City and the Sydney Airport as well! I've been eyeballing those two and looking for a reason to buy!

Nick Cooper Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 Hello, It is clearly understood how frustrating it is for Marketplace customers to see Orbx Direct customers receive timely updates that are not yet available them. The way the Marketplace works has been very clearly explained. Despite the assertions made in the closed topics, it is not possible for Orbx, or any third party developer, to change the way that it works. Continued assertions that it is, or indeed should be, serve no purpose and those topics containing the repeated assertions have been closed. If a marketplace customer has observations about how and when updates to products on sale there should be released, the customer should approach those who control the Marketplace.
carlosqr Posted March 12, 2021 Posted March 12, 2021 Thank you Nick Just noticed the last lines in the attached post that refer to the Market Place users. I had missed that, therefore could not give a proper reply on that specific topic to Dylanear Cheers Carlos

Geilhofer Posted March 12, 2021 Posted March 12, 2021 I installed today LC Landmarks again, after deinstalling before some weeks, after MSFS Great Britain Update. But the performance and the problems are there, also I restarted the MSFS. F.E. double London Eye or flickering Ground without AI houses. Can we get an information here, when an LC Landmarks Update is there, which works correctly with MSFS GB Update. This is the State on 12 march 2021. Cause, if I deinstall the scenery, Orbx Central does not inform me about an update.
Holger Sandmann Posted March 12, 2021 Posted March 12, 2021 Hi there, for Orbx Direct customers the update has been available for a couple of weeks: https://orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/205545-landmarks-london-city-pack-for-msfs-update/ Note the information about the control panel / configuration option. Also, I've noticed that the MS Marketplace now has an "Update" tag on the Landmarks London City Pack so the patched version appears to have finally arrived there as well. Cheers, Holger

Cheers, Holger Thank you, Holger, for the link and the explanation. I didn't realize after update, that now there is an config option in a separat control panel. With this it works well now, except that the performance is slower as in other citys, but this is caused from the combination of photogrammetry and the LC Addon. Cheers, Martin
Dylanear Posted March 13, 2021 Author Posted March 13, 2021 There's a new thread/topic here that goes a long way to answering the "A" part of my questions that I made this post to ask.
Dylanear Posted March 13, 2021 Author Posted March 13, 2021 My B: Question about configuration is still entirely mysterious, though since it seems the Marketplace is now offering the latest version I will try that and see if I can find any answers about configuring the two versions.

Nick, thanks for commenting. And while I agree/understand the delays Microsoft has in updating products in the in sim Marketplace it entirely their issue and Orbx has absolutely nothing to do with that, nor could they change Microsoft policy, there are questions related to this I'd expect Orbx to help with. When people ask about issues related to products from other developers sold on Orbx they are directed to ask those questions to the developers who made them in the first place. Fair and makes sense. But in this case the seller is Microsoft, but the developer is Orbx! So logically, questions about the product itself, not questions about it's distribution should be answered by the developer. Here we have a grey area! Orbx has configuration options for their products built into Central. Very useful. But the London City Pack has options when sold and distributed by Orbx, but I know of no way the in sim Marketplace has any provisions for that. So, some comments by Orbx, the developer of the London City Pack about how their product works in the version Microsoft is selling I don't think is unreasonable. Sending such a question to Microsoft or Steam is surely going to get a clueless support drone who's likely never flown a flight sim in their life! I made the mistake of buying this from the in sim Marketplace and I won't make that mistake again. BUT, I do think some help by Orbx in answering this configuration question is not off the mark.
Ed Correia Posted March 14, 2021 Posted March 14, 2021 The control panel (configuration) only exists with Orbx Central and thus only if purchased from Orbx.

I understand that the updated product is now available in the Marketplace.
