Explorer Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 I have been using Orbx products for a long time. First in FSX and now in X-Plane. I often ask myself who is responsible for helicopter pilots at Orbx. Is there anyone interested in this group? Which beta tester flies with the eyes of a helicopter pilot? There have probably already been similar inquiries ... The problem is always present with my Orbx X-Plane AddOns. I have now purchased the TrueEarth Canary Islands for X-Plane 11. An area with a manageable number of heliports and hospitals. It would not be a big problem to create these things while developing. There are some hospitals as 3D models in the scenery. Helicopter pilots love to fly there. But the landing sites are not landable. It's frustrating. Imagine flying your plane to a nice airport, but then landing is not possible ... It wouldn't be a big deal during development. Changing these things afterwards is a lot of work and not so easy for the user (if he can at all). It is sometimes said that helipads have a bad impact on performance. But you can design it as an option. It's not a complaint ... more a wish. You would never develop an airport where you cannot land. Remember this as you develop hospitals. Wish a happy new year and health
Tony Wroblewski Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 Thanks for your feedback Yes, you are correct that the majority of our testers and users use fixed wings so we don't get as much feedback regarding helicopters as we should. However it has been raised, as with our previous products that we aren't doing enough to cater for helicopter pilots and I take all your points on board. We still have a patch pending for SoCal that makes the buildings in downtown LA landable, however there are also many helipads on autogen objects we can't make landable, and in fact we also can't delete helipads from X-Plane that don't exist. 35 minutes ago, Explorer said: Changing these things afterwards is a lot of work and not so easy for the user (if he can at all). Patching buildings to make them landable is not a hard thing for us to patch after release... removing and moving X-Plane default helipads is more of a challenge.
Explorer Posted December 30, 2020 Author Posted December 30, 2020 Many thanks for the answer. I mainly use US Washington, GB North and now Canary Islands. It's very similar on this point. 3 hours ago, Tony Wroblewski said: Patching buildings to make them landable is not a hard thing for us to patch after release... removing and moving X-Plane default helipads is more of a challenge. Well, I mean it's harder for the user to change these things. Maybe I'm the only helicopter pilot who misses these things. But I do not think so ...
Laurens Posted December 31, 2020 Posted December 31, 2020 First, I’m happy to have bought this great scenery. I bought it cause I have been on Lanzarote and La Palma. The scenery does give me a good feeling of La Palma though I mis a code, or a fictional code for the helipads at the observatory so I can track my flight here as well, and start a flight from here. I hope that all helipads will be made for us helipilots as well so we can enjoy these islands much more
