kenlarsen
I have the Orbx Sydney add-on for FS2020 and the new World Update II: USA offers the options to "buy" the free update to USA from the Marketplace. However, the marketplace does not load unless the Community folder is empty. Is there an easy way to disable the Orbx add-on? Or do I have to uninstall it completely in Orbx Central? I have moved the Orbx folders to another folder temporarily to install the USA update, but it seems a bit manual. Not sure if Orbx has tested their add-on's with the new update. John Dow
Your setup must be different to mine. My Community folder has the Orbx sceneries links, and some freeware aircraft files. The USA Update files have gone into the Official folder and as far as I know the USA Update loads when I start a US flight. I'll re check later with a USA tour to confirm. Jon Clarke
@kenlarsen I had no problem in "Buying" the USA World Update from Marketplace with an active Community folder with addons installed. I had no need to move any files. What version of MSFS have you got as you are the only person to report this issue and all MSFS users will by now have the updated MSFS and the USA World Update? kenlarsen
I have the latest 1.11.6.0 which I just updated last night. That update gives you access to the USA update via Marketplace as well as the USA tour. As I said the Marketplace simply hangs without loading anything. Others have reported this behavior and its resolution by clearing the Community folder. Which I did and it worked. But I had to remove my Orbx Sydney add-on to clear the Community folder. Which is why I asked the question about disabling Orbx add-ons, which would be useful anyway since some Community add-ons increase loadtimes significantly. Now that I have installed the USA update I'll try to restore Sydney and see what happens.
Nick Cooper
Hello, the simple way to "clear the Community folder" is to rename it to CommunityX. Then create a new folder in the same place and name it Community. Nothing needs to be deleted, amended, uninstalled or reinstalled and when the Microsoft update is complete, delete the empty Community folder and rename CommunityX back to Community. Similarly, if you feel that you have overloaded the simulator with addons, create other folders and simply move the addon folders into them when you don't want to use them. kenlarsen
Great suggestion. I do have a couple of community archive folders that I can switch between. When I said that I "cleared" the Orbx plug-in I did what you suggested and moved it to my archive. Which should make it easy to move back. I'll try it shortly. AnkH
As Nick wrote. Personally, I created a folder called "Community Backup" and I always move the full community folder content in this backup folder before I update MSFS. If everything is settled, I move those addons back that are relevant. As such, you also always have a backup of your addons, if something goes wrong... Jon Clarke
Or use this tool which i use. Extremely simple to use/ I break my addons up into Regions: https://flightsim.to/file/1572/msfs-addons-linker This shows how I am currently set up. I am flying in the USA with only Orbx addons I install all my addons into a folder call MSFS Addons, and from there I choose which addons I want to be used for a particular flight session, by Region and Planes and AI etc. The tool then creates symbolic links to those chosen addoins into the Community folder. That way you are never actually using the instalaltion hardcopy of your addon. If anything goes wrong you only lose the symbolic link and not the actual addon. No need to be moving files . kenlarsen
FYI: When I reinstate my Orbx folders in the Community folder the Marketplace reverts to the issue where it cannot load. This may have nothing to do with Orbx but with the fact that for some reason the Community folder has to be empty.
