KTIW CTD conflict with DRZEWIECKI Designs Seattle Landmarks

Recommended Posts

It appears that the Orbx KTIW and  DRZEWIECKI Designs Seattle Landmarks packages have a conflict.  If I disable either one, I can fly in the area, but if both are disabled, I get a CTD when loading the flight. If both these packages are active and I attempt to load a flight out of KRNT airport, the flight simulator crashes while it's loading the flight after you hit the fly now button in flight planner.

Unloading either scenery package from the Community folder allows the flight to load normally.

I have notified Drzewiecki Design and made them aware of this.  I hope you can find the cause as both packages enhance the area greatly.

Reproduction steps as follows as well as Windows Event Viewer area.

1.  Place both Orbx KTIW and DD Seattle Landmarks packages in the community folder

2.  Start Flight Simulator

3.  After initial loading.  Go to the world view/flight planner and choose a plane and attempt to start a flight at either KSEA or KTIW.  (or any airfield in the general area)

4.  Click the fly button on the lower left of the screen

5.  The Cessna in flight screen will show and the progress bar will advance to load the flight.  Prior to loading (3/4 to 7/8 complete) the music will cut out, and the entire flight simulator crashes to desktop.

6.  Remove either the Orbx KTIW or DD Seattle Landmarks packages from the community folder and retry steps 1-5 above and flight will load normally without issue.

Eventlog as follows.

I recall a similar issue between Orbx Alesund and Aerosoft Trondheim. With both airports installed one would not load or give a CTD when in the proximity. Maybe there is a similar solution?

Hi there,

I've now got both packages installed and am not experiencing any problems.

I tried changing the order of the sceneries in the content.xml file and they still worked fine together.

When testing they were the only two sceneries I had in the Community folder.

All the best,

John

I too emptied my entire community folder once I narrowed it down.  What versions of each package do you have?  I have 1.0 of the Seattle Landmarks and 1.0.2 of the Orbx package.

The same as you. To be honest this gave me the ideal excuse to get the DD package which I'd been thinking of doing anyway!

Is there anyway this could be related to settings? I know the Seattle area is challenging to the hardware - or at least to my relatively modest system.

In the first instance it might be worth turning settings right down to at least eliminate that possibility. I did try and increase a few of mine but couldn't replicate the crash. How do your system specs compare to mine?

One question.  Is your Orbx KTIW purchased from Orbx and installed via Orbx central or via MSFS marketplace?  That's the only divergence I can think of.  Mine was purchased directly from Orbx, and I have tried both installation methods, using the Direct installation method and installing it to the Orbx central folder and using the symbolic link.

It's not related to settings.  I have my settings at High End, 1080p, and my GTX1660 is keeping solid 40fps in most areas.  I tried lowering the settings and it doesn't help.  My i7-7700 is using hyperthreading, but I won't turn that off because performance goes into the tank if I do that.

Running i7-7700 intel CPU, Nvidia GTX 1660 GPU with latest available drivers.  FS is installed on a 1GB dedicated SSD and the community folder and all addon's are stored on the SSD as well.

The community and Official folders are located in E:/MSFS_Data folder.

I normally use a Scenery Addon manager which allows you to organize your sceneries within subfolders and creates symbolic links in the Community folder.  However for the purpose of testing, I moved both the Orbx and DD packages directly into the Community folder with no other packages in that folder and all symbolic links removed and the issue still occurs.

I did the patch today from MS and all the US world updates and it's still occurring.  So I'm not sure what to do but disable the Orbx package until someone can reproduce the issue and find out what it is.

Mine is installed via Orbx central directly into the communities folder.

You've clearly got more power than I have so I guess we can discount it being a performance issue.

From what you say it sounds as if you have already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall of both sceneries which is the only other thing I could suggest. If both sceneries are displaying correctly with the other disabled it would seem that the content.xml file contains the correct entries but it might be worth re-naming it and allowing MSFS to rebuild it.

Wish I could be more help but being unable to duplicate the problem means I can't troubleshoot it :-[

I'll happily answer any other questions of course if that might be of assistance.

All the best,

Tried doing that and unfortunately no change in behavior.

<sad face>.

I'm almost tempted to purchase the Orbx add on from the marketplace and see if it has the same behavior, but not willing to shell out another $13.00 just to test a theory and to correct two bridges, which was the initial reason for purchasing the airport in the first place.

Doubt that's worth doing given that I'm not experiencing the CTD with the Orbx central version (as far as I know they are the same).

One thought. Some people have been reporting CTD's in various situations which were solved by deleting the rolling cache file\switching rolling cache off (in options-general-data).

Have you tried that?

At the time that I purchased the add on, I had the rolling cache disabled.  I'll delete it and see.

Hi Fellows -

Hmmm...that is strange, but you're following all of the correct steps to isolate the problem.

I bought the Seattle Scenery and installed it with Orbx TIW installed and did not experience a CTD when landing at KTIW after starting at KSEA or KRNT.

But I'd be happy to test scenarios to try to re-create the problem if it helps!

I will try my best to get my system to CTD (but it never seems to, fortunately, except post most recent update if I try to touch my new Carenado planes sun visor).

Another thought - but be CAREFUL with this - can you place one of the sceneries into the "official" folder (vs. Community) temporarily to see if there is still a conflict (if it lets you copy folders in there, not sure) - doubt that would fix the issue but might be worth trying?

I don't have the DD addon but what plane are you flying when this CTD occurs? Does it CTD in the default Cessna 152/172? To isolate the 2 scenery addons is the best way as you have done, but a modded plane or a livery addon can cause a CTD, hence my asking about what plane you are flying.

Is this with MSFS or P3D? I just wanted to buy both Products for P3D but am not sure now.

Kind Regards

Since this is the MSFS support forum, I suppose it is with MSFS.

Yes, MSFS... No conflicts with P3D ;)
