Hello,

if you have lost the option for MSFS, please try this:

Uninstall Orbx Central in the Windows Control panel.

Delete C:\Users\your name\AppData\Local\Orbx-central-updater and

C:\Users\youir name\AppData\Roaming\Orbx\Central.

Then install Orbx Central again from this link

This happened to me also.  So will this mess up all my P3D stuff now?

Hi Nick

The same problem happened to me tonight upon starting Orbx central.

MS FS 2020 has disappeared. P3Dv5 is still there.

I followed your advice above but still the same problem.

2 relevant screenshots attached.

1st screen - shows P3Dv5 ok but the box below just searches for MS FS 2020 but does not find it or display it.

2nd screen - does not list MS FS 2020 as an option to choose.

Not sure what has happened or changed recently for this to occur.

Please advise.

Same issue with me also.  When I click on Nick's link MalwareBytes blocks access with the following:

image.thumb.png.52fd320c4e80f621744c30f98101a5ca.png

EDIT: I proceed with download of Orbx-central-4.1.23.exe, uninstalled prior version, deleted the two folders listed above.  Installed Orbx-central-4.1.23.exe and start Central and got this:

Just a spinning wheel ... let it spin for several minutes (5 mins), kept spinning so selected Prepar3d V5.

Went thru a "new library" setup process and pointed to my existing V5 library, fortunately it seem to find it and all was ok.  However, when I selected Xplane 11 I got nothing, none of my XP products showed as installed.

And, MSFS never showed up.  Maybe this shouldn't be marked as "resolved"?

Cheers, Rob

This must be version/installation configuration/user specific, as Orbx Central sees my copy whether it is in developer mode or not.

Don't know what to say.  I installed MSFS in it's default location via MS Store.  Windows Defender is running (MalwareBytes is browser only extension), UAC set to "Never notify", my user account is Administrator, Win10 10.0.19041, Virtualization not enabled.

Are you permitted to provide details on how Orbx Central determines if MSFS is installed and where it's installed?

My guess is MSFS Dev Mode might enter into a difference security context that prevents Orbx Central from accessing it?  Usually something like this is almost always security related because MS in their infinite wisdom (read lack of trust for any developer) doesn't always trigger an exception when code runs into a security context issue.

I agree it doesn't happen to everyone, Pete Dowson not having problems in or out of Dev Mode, but clearly several of us are/did have this problem.

Cheers, Rob.

This is the info i have Rob:

The process of finding Microsoft Flight Simulator is as follows:

  1. We look for files at the following paths for a UserCfg.opt file.
    • %LOCALAPPDATA%/Packages/Microsoft.KHAlpha_8wekyb3d8bbwe/LocalCache/UserCfg.opt
    • %LOCALAPPDATA%/Packages/Microsoft.FlightSimDisc_8wekyb3d8bbwe/LocalCache/UserCfg.opt
    • %LOCALAPPDATA%/Packages/Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe/LocalCache/UserCfg.opt
    • %APPDATA%/Microsoft Flight Simulator/UserCfg.opt - Specific to Steam
  2. Inside these UserCfg.opt files we look for a line which contains 'InstalledPackagesPath'. On that same line will be a path to where MSFS expects it's addons to be installed. We treat that path as the Sim Root.
  3. If we can locate one of the UserCfg.opt files and within the file, find a line containing 'InstalledPackagesPath' Orbx Central should detect the simulator.

Thanks, it didn't really require an answer.

There are so many variables that, as with virtually every aspect of PC flight simulation,

it is possible to find users with different experiences of what is apparently the same thing and different

solutions that sometimes work and sometimes do not.

Hi Jon,

My path to UserCfg.opt is: C:\Users\Rob\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache

I have the entry in UserCfg.opt:

InstalledPackagesPath "C:\Users\Rob\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages"

The file and entries are the same in Dev Mode vs. Standard.

FYI, I tested again with Dev Mode vs. Standard mode and Orbx Central is now seeing MSFS in both modes, odd but a clue in itself.  So the issue is probably a one time situation based on just after the patch 1.3.9.0 and being in Dev Mode ... perhaps the act of changing from Dev Mode to Standard mode post patch recreated the initial necessary entry for Orbx Central.?  I noticed the patch did modify UserCfg.opt file.

This is probably an Asobo issue ... there are many ;)

Cheers, Rob.

Hi Nick, I performed these actions yesterday and it worked as it should. Today when I attempted to access Central, I have the same issue. as if I had never applied the fix. I am NOT in developer mode. I'll try the fix again later when Ihave a moment.

Any thoughts?

Hello,

undoubtedly, the problem, like so many with this new simulator, does not have one cause or one solution.

I have referred this topic back to the Orbx Central developers.

This topic contains most examples of what can go wrong and also the fact that the majority are not experiencing it.

If you can attach a copy of your Orbx Central log, that would hopefully take out some of the guesswork for them.

Thanks.

UPDATE:

Key to replicating this issue is to:

1.  Put MSFS into dev mode

2.  Do a flight in MSFS

3.  Exit MSFS

4.  Reboot (KEY)

5.  Run Orbx Central (make sure you do nothing else before loading Orbx Central after reboot)

Cheers, Rob.

Hi Rob,

When you next experience the issue, can you please send:

  • %appdata%\Orbx\Central\central.log
  • %localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\UserCfg.opt

Central only does those steps that Jon mentioned in his post above (as well as checking that the directories exist). If there is an issue, I'm guessing something is wrong with the UserCfg.opt file.

Hi Ben

I take it, you were not able to reproduce the issue with the steps I listed above? (exactly those steps)

I will send you a central.log.  To be noted, it can take Orbx Central sometime ... 15 seconds or so ... (get the "Loading" text) to start the first time after a reboot.

Nothing wrong in the UserCfg.opt file, I checked before Orb Central starts and after ... same with MSFS before and after.

Cheers, Rob.

Unfortunately not, I'm unable to reproduce this on my PC.

Slow loading times when Central is loading will be investigated.

When sending the central.log, could you please also send me your UserCfg.opt from various points (when Central works, and when it doesn't work) for comparison?

Hello,

I've just got the problem (no choice, no MSFS library...).

I restarted Orbx Central 5 or 6 times to... rebooted twice my computer...

Finally I started Microsoft Flight Simulator to check if it still worked...

Waiting for sim I read the posts about the issue... and checked that %LOCALAPPDATA%/Packages/Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe/LocalCache/UserCfg.opt is my friend (and have been modified during a few seconds ago)...

As the sim was playing the well known music I closed it...

Last, before to uninstall Orbx Central I gave an ultimate try... and, that's magic, Orbx Central had turn to work as before!
All my sceneries are back.

So... I'd say... when you get the issue: run the sim then exit (your UserCfg.opt will be updated... repaired?) then check Orbx Central ;-)
