Popular Post Orbx
Hot on the heels of his highly popular Orcas Island, developer Andreas Hegi brings us the the next charming airfield in his Pacific Northwest series for Microsoft Flight Simulator - Darrington Municipal Airport! Located in the heart of the North Cascade Mountains in Washington State, Darrington is located a short hop from other well-known small-field destinations such as Orcas, Anacortes and Concrete. Serving Snohomish County and dwarfed by the shadow of the mighty Whitehorse Mountain, this airfield is set in the heart of picturesque Darrington village on the confluence of two rivers. Rich in salmon fishing, wildlife and pristine natural surrounding, it's a perfect base for your bush flying adventures into the Glacier Peak Wilderness Area and North Cascades National Park. A totally new rework of one of our most popular PNW sceneries from the FSX era, Andreas has incorporated entirely new content and technology to bring the airport up to 2020 standards. Complete PBR textures, entirely new high-resolution artwork, weather-influenced ground detailing and evocative night lighting are just the beginning. This is far beyond a simple port; every element has been carefully recreated from on-ground source photography. Beyond the airport perimeter, the township is teaming with atmospheric details; plenty of points of interest dot the town, as well as substantial corrections to the river watermasking, tree placements and grass around the airport. Existing OrbxDirect owners of Darrington for FSX, Prepar3D or X-Plane will receive a 40% discount when purchased through OrbxDirect. The airport will also be available for purchase from the Microsoft FlightSim Marketplace. Available very soon, Darrington Municipal will be priced at USD$12.99 ($US7.79 for existing customers). Be sure to keep an eye out on our forums and social media for more information and updates! 22 3

Dario
Wow, that’s excellent news! I love this airfield. I cannot wait to see more and more GA airfields ported to MSFS. Nowadays, it’s a sim better suited to flying low and slow than for long flights.

Sundog
That looks great! Sadly, the last MSFS update tanked my install. I'll get to fly there eventually, though! Keep up the great work of bringing the previous airports over. They're a welcome addition.

AndyWsays
Great news, I love the character of this airport from a previous purchase on X Plane. Hopefully airports such as Anacortes will also be released. Over in UK I also loved Caernarfon and Shoreham. Would be grateful if Orbx could consider porting these to MSFS also. Great work on MSFS so far - Thank you!

Catalysis
This is just fabulous news and will fit this awesome new sim like a glove. I certainly hope Concrete isn't far off release as the short hop from Darrington to there is a massive nostalgia trip and no doubt will be a fantastic measure of how far we've come from a technical perspective. The upgrade pricing is wonderful too, so many thanks for that as well Orbx. Let the serious bush flying commence! I'm genuinely quite emotional about this. So many happy hours already spent flying around there and obviously many more to follow soon. Edited September 11, 2020 by Catalysis

quelcertoleo
I'm really looking forward for this one. I love flying in PNW since the old Flight Unlimited 3 days. I have a simple favour to ask though, could you please, pretty please, make the airport marked with a star on the MSFS map? ;) ps: can I see the Concrete and Anacortes reference in the original message as a sort of hint for the upcoming ones? I'd love to see again Concrete.

Dario
I would love to have all the amazing Orbx little airfields ported to MSFS2020. It’s in GA that FS2020 shines. And Orbx is the natural leader developer. Only one request: please make 1S2 available to fly this weekend! 3

RobdeVries
Love the airfield, glad to have it back! However the cemetery north of rwy 10 isn't modeled at all. Photo underground is blurry so nothing to see if not modeled 3D. And not being nitpicky but it actually helps as a landmark IRL to align and land rwy10. Yes experienced in reality in 2015. stiletto2
Hmmmm....that seems odd as @Andreas Hegi told you it was modeled in the thread below. I hope they didn't release the wrong version. Rod

Rob Abernathy
Hmmm..... this building at the cemetery looks real enough to me, unless you want 3D grave stones modeled on the grass areas.
stiletto2
Hi Rob A., Thanks for that info. I now understand. Cleary, Andreas was refering to the fact that he was modeling the same cemetery look that P3D 1S2 had which was the cemetery building next to the faint terrain images of stone markers. The new version of 1S2 for MFS2020 has that exact look. I did not understand that Rob de Vries' request actually meant something more than what P3D 1S2 had. Rob de Vries was apparently asking for an enhancement to the original which would have put stone markers in the grass. I am sure Andreas' response did not mean to indicate that he was going to put headstones in the grass. So, all is good. RobdeVries
But indeed I was hoping for 'some enhancements' in the form of headstones in the grass... Look at the great video of Backcountry182 at 4:22.
