Orbx Central issue

I've been using Orbx Central for a few years with no trouble. On August 23, 2020 I clicked on Orbx Central and it lit up with a message updates being applied or something similar. I waited and it blinked and went away. I've tried to open it every day since. It flashes like its going to open but it stops and nothing happens. I've tried this for several days now and it simply won't open. It's quite possible I'm doing something wrong but I'm doing what I've always done. I click on the ICON on my desktop, it flashes. Stops. Help please.

Hi, welcome to the forums

 

The new app called Orbx Central has not been available for the last few years, do you mean you are still trying to use the previous app called FTX Central 3? If so, it has been discontinued and you will need to update to Orbx Central as per the below topic.

No sir. The icon on my screen says Orbx Central and I've used it a number of times previously. I use your products and usually have no problem. It flashes when I click on it and the frame goes away. The icon appears in my taskbar as Orbx Central. When I click on it, its says "Orbx Central" I get a small picture with writing on it but its too small to read.

I do not find a page with those headings that start with "Store". page, can you tell me the URL for that page. Maybe that will help. Is it in ORBXdirect or the ORBXSstems.com page? I find a page in ORBXdirect called "The All new Orbx Central." But the headings are Home-Products-Freeware etc.

I already have Orbx Central 4.1.22 on my PC. When I click on it it flashes but doesn't open so I can't get to settings or any thing else. Should I simply delete it and redownload the file?

It is unpinned but still shows on my taskbar as well as on my Display.  I clicked it, unclicked it, clicked it and unclicked but it's still in both places. When I right click in in the taskbar i get ("Orbx Central," "Pin to taskbar," and "close window") but when I click it, nothing happens. When I hover over it it shows me a very small box which looks like the screen for Orbx Central, but when I click nothing happens and when I move the pointer it disappears. If I right click on the icon in the display I get a whole list of items, including one that says "restore to previous version" would that work?

Its almost like it's somehow getting a command to "move to the back." It flashes, shows screen for 1 second and then fades. I tried restore, nothing happens. What will happen if I delete Orbx Central and then re-download, will your system loose all my files? You can probably see my files and see what I have purchased. Obviously I don't want to lose all that. I appreciate your help, needless to say it's pretty frustrating.

Today when i hover my pointer over Orbx Central on the Taskbar it shows mt a cover picture of OPENLC Africa, when I move the hover the picture disappears. Its almost like the oicture is off the top, or bottom or edges of my screen. I've clicked on "remove from taskbar, but it doesn't remove it. I've tried "Run as Administrator, but get same result.

Try pressing the ALT+TAB keys to see if it cycles the Central window forward.

A reinstall of Orbx Central will not affect your purchases, they will still be visible in Orbx Direct.

If you decide to uninstall and reinstall Central, please follow Nick's advice below.

It may not be necessary, but I personally would do a reboot between the uninstall and reinstall.

 

In fact, it is necessary to first uninstall Orbx Central, using the Windows Control panel.

Then delete:

C:\Users\your name\AppData\Roaming\Orbx and

C:\Users\your name\AppData\Local\Orbx-central-updater

Then reinstall Orbx Central, using any of the "Get Central" links on Orbx Direct.

Please remember, Orbx Central worked a little over a week prior to 8/23/20.It was only after an attempted update on the 23rd things went off the rail. So it has something to do with that update I think. I have a number of the C++ files installed and the latest were installed on 3/23/20 its version 14.0.24. I tried the ALT TAB trick and nothing happened. If you find I don't have the latest C++ let me know. If that's the latest, then I'll do the uninstall-reinstall thing. I am using WIN10. I5-8400, 16g Ram, GTX1050ti graphic card.

Apparently, this has occurred numerous times as I see on the forums. There must be a solution. I see others have even tried to uninstall and reinstall, with no success. I've spent quite a bit of money.

Hello, I have shown you my Visual C++ software, it was to allow you to check yours. If you have installed the required software as shown in Doug's post 17 then you will have fullfilled the requirements needed by Orbx Central and all should be well.

I do not have any problem running Central, the difference between our software that I can see is me = Visual C++ 2015-2019 and yours just = Visual C++ 2015.

Have you checked you are up to date with Windows Updates ?

I've matched by redistributle files to yours and nothing has changed. I always process the updates as soon as they arrive so yes, I'm up to date. I get a 5 second screen which says "Launching" and it all goes blank. It is updated to 4.1.23. Last week it was version 4.1.22 but where it goes, nobody knows.

There is a possibility that there is a conflict with your anti-virus and some program / update. I only use Windows Defender but I still create exclusions for certain folders.

Win10 - Settings – Update & Security – Windows Security – Virus and threat protection – Settings – Manage Settings – Exclusions – Add remove exclusions                 See mine

I went onto both defender and malwarebytes and told them both to allow all folder and files for Orbx.  Nothing changed. Now, two questions, in my USER Folder under APP Data and "Roaming" there is a file called Orbx library. It is empty. Should it be? And second, under USERS-Local, there is a folder called Orbx-central-updater. When I open that folder, there is a folder named "PENDING" and a file called "package.7z." I clicked on the "pending folder and found that it appeared that the update had started to install but after about 15 to 20% it stopped. So I clicked, it appeared to restart and has no stopped again in the same place. A separate small window says "Orbx Central is running. Click ok to close it." That window appears side by side of the installation window. So it's hung up somewhere. It's for 4.1.23 and is dated 8/31/20. You may recall I started having problems with the 4.1.22 upgrade which began 8/23/20. If I send you a copy of the Central.log file would that help?

I don't even know what Fastlane is. I'm a simple man. I've had  Orbx Central or its predecessor for several years. I went to look at Got Lancair and that other plane. on aug 23 I clicked on Orbx Central, nothing else. It started to download. I got the message it was connecting and nothing else. So I have no idea what fastlane is. And I still get the screen that says "Connecting..." Based on what I see in the log, it never downloaded.

I just re-downloaded Orbx Central, reinstalled it. It says Orbx 4.1.33 is running. When through the whole installation. Nothing, no picture, no setup no nothing. There is a flash and it goes away.

The following hint at two potential causes of the issue you're experiencing.

The first potential cause is that Orbx Central is simply crashing after the splash screen for some reason. The snippet of the log file you've provided and the fact that the application still appears in your task bar makes me believe that this is unlikely. However, if you could attach your full central.log file we'll be able to rule this out for certain.

 

The second and more likely cause is that the Orbx Central application isn't rendering within the bounds of your displays. It would be just off screen where you can't see or interact with it. If this is indeed the cause the easiest way to address this is to find the Orbx Central icon in your system tray. The system tray sits next to the clock in your taskbar and contains icons such as volume controls and your active network connection. Clicking on the arrow in the system tray will display additional applications. If you see the Orbx Central icon in your system tray you can simply click on it and select 'Reset Window Position'. This will move the application into the default bounds of your display.

If Orbx Central appears in your task bar but not in your system tray it's likely the 'Minimize to system tray' option was disabled. In this case the application window position can be reset by deleting your Orbx Central settings file. To do this, completely close Orbx Central (ensure it's not running in Task Manager) then delete the %AppData%\Orbx\Central\central.json file. Relauching Orbx Central will then have it set to the default position.

Let me know if you run into any issues with this.
