Stillwater
Today´s flight planning was easy: I just copied a map from our travel reporter Jean Marc, worked myself to the departure airport, and - voila! Here we go from Zougra... ... to Pic Tousside, one of the highest mountains of the Sahara. With the potential to grow, as it is considered a "potentially active" volcano. No one could do a better depiction and explanation of the area than Jean Marc did. The pre-Tousside caldera has a diameter of more than 12 kilometres. The rough Tibesti mountains (near WP3) also look amazing, and should not be a pleasure to the hikers, drivers or caravans. Emi Koussi, with 11204 ft the highest mountain of the Sahara desert. It is considered by some astronauts to be the most recognizable landmark on Earth, as seen from orbit. Much lower lie the settlements of the Ouinanga-Kebir Oasis. And from Aorounga we see not much more than sand here. At least Faya Largeau has not only an airstrip, but also some vegetation. Interesting fyling here, with great discoveries for me. Like Wikipedia says "this area is poorly studied; as the region is remote and access difficult for political reasons".

The compliments go to Jean Marc, he has pointe us to these places, and I am sure he has lots on the shelf... A friend of mine took this photo of the Sahara, also quite different from my old expectation. 2 hours ago, jean marc said: Great tour and narrative - happy you did it Gerold It is an amazing place on Earth Martyn, full of wonders and interesting cultures ... If anyone here on the forum would be travelling there in person, I would expect you. You have read so much about the deserts, and shared so much knowledge. Just great, thank you!
