The East African Rift, with some photos to compare

Recommended Posts

I went on from Lake Turkana and added some pictures I found in a blog. The IRIS factory demonstrator was fast and powerful enough for this flight...

... the inhabitants of lake Turkana also get airbourne: Flamingos.

Heading north over a huge number of small and big craters...

We can clearly see the narrow rift near Chelbi Wildlife Reserve.

Some lakes with an interesting connection near Arba Minch. I could not find real photos of the gorge, but...

... of the real inhabitants of Lake Abaya. Probably no good place for swimming.

In this region many lakes have filled the breaking ground, like in the Abijata-Shalla area.

Time to head up the hills, turning left over Nazret town, ...

... and climb some 1000 ft into Addis Abeba.

Bole Intl. airport has an altitiude of 7591 ft, not easy to reach for underpowered planes. And honestly not a perfect altitude for an international hub.

Wow Gerold, I never knew how nice Africa looked.  I live that real photo of the Chelbi Wildlife Reserve, it looks just like the Grand Canyon.

Absolutely Jack, these real life shots are even more amazing than the glimpse we get in the sim. But that is already a lot!

Great guided tour of another part if Africa Gerold.

Very enjoyable narration too.

Thank you, Adam and Martyn. I tried to follow the geological hot zone in this - and the next - flight, and the area is really big.

Gerold,

Great shots. I just bought the Africa LC. Do you have a flight plan for your flight? Even just a rough outline would do. I am not familure with Africa.

Thanks

Howard

Thanks for commenting Howard. I have never been in Africa as well, but I have an atlas, some travel books and a lot of my old school knowledge at hands. The latest flight plans I did not yet delete are enclosed:

VFR Bole Intl nach Ambouli.pln VFR Loyangalani nach Bole Intl.pln VFR Jomo Kenyatta nach Loyangalani.pln VFR Kilimanjaro Intl nach Jomo Kenyatta.pln VFR Hoedspruit AB nach Kruger Mpumalanga International.pln
