CathyH
I will be buying a new rig and I intend to run P3d V5, what specs will I need to run it well? Does anyone know if Carenado, Alabeo and Orbx are updating their installers, and what about the FS Estonia tool, finally will I need a new FSUIPC? thanks Cathy
golfacce
One of the most important considerations is that you have a processor that runs at 3.0 or better GHZ. Otherwise, trying to run SteamVR is stumble. Bob Golfacce@aol.com
BradB
Carenado AC for the most part work fine in V5 : https://carenado.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360046625614-Installing-Carenado-aircraft-in-P3Dv5 Cheers John
Nick Cooper
Hello. I will be buying a new rig and I intend to run P3d V5, what specs will I need to run it well? Quote System Requirements System Requirements – Prepar3D v5 Minimum Recommended Operating System Microsoft Windows 10 1809 Microsoft Windows 10 1909 Computer Processor Quad Core @ 3.0 GHz Octa Core @ 3.7 GHz + (e.g. Intel Core i7/i9) Computer Memory 4 GB 16 GB DDR4/2666MHz + Hard Drive Space 50 GB, with at least 35 GB on C:\ (3 GB for the SDK) M.2 or Solid State Drive (SSD) is strongly recommended Graphics Card Video Memory 4 GB 8 GB + (e.g. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 2080 Ti) Graphics Card Other DirectX 12 with feature level 12_0 or greater Other Administrator Rights (for installation only) Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0 Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 1920×1080 minimum screen resolution for primary display Does anyone know if Carenado, Alabeo and Orbx are updating their installers. Orbx Central will install all the compatible products into P3D v5. and what about the FS Estonia tool As it is a tool designed to install incompatible products, no idea and no comment. Finally will I need a new FSUIPC? Yes, FSUIPC 6.
bvdboomen
Hi Cathy, It's the first time I'm going to say this but Prepar3D v5 will benefit from the latest and greatest hardware since it introduced the use of DX12. All Carenado and Alabeo work just fine but it's difficult to install them as xml add-on completely. There always will be parts in the sim's root due to hard coded paths in the dll's unless you use symbolic links. I only used FSUIPC in my FSX days. While it has some pretty nice features, I don't miss it.
CathyH
I'm looking at the RYZEN Family of CPU, any reccomendations?
CathyH
I will probably go with a Radeon Card for being a bit cheaper than the NVDIA and able to afford a better one, any recommendations?
Stewart Hobson
Ask @Doug Sawatzky. He's the local expert on the Radeon cards.
Doug Sawatzky
Thanks Stew But I have been running a nvidia 1080ti now for a few years and I am out of date with the Radeon cards.
bvdboomen
Cathy, if you asking this within the context of purchasing P3D v5 then do a research if the Nvidia Waveworks used in the sim also works on AMD GPU's. I can't find anything on it so far but maybe if you search deeper you will.

I'm not sure of your budget but I would suggest Ryzen 5 3600X or better. If you want to follow the recommended by LM Octa-Core then you'd need a Ryzen 7 3700X or better. Mind you, the Ryzen 4000 series is expected in October 2020, so depending on when you intend to do your build, this could affect your decision. magnetite
Regarding autogen performance, which was a huge framerate hog in previous versions of Prepar3D and FSX. When they upgraded P3D v5 with the DirectX 12 API, autogen has no FPS loss at all on my system. Even at the highest settings (minus scenery complexity for some reason). So you can have all the trees and generic buildings you want, without it impacting performance. Before, it used to bring your system to it's knees. In a way, the CPU is the customer, the API is the server, and the GPU is the cook. Autogen performance seemed to be a case of too many customers, not enough servers, which made the GPU wait for orders and things to do (lower GPU usage).
