Stillwater
Heading on with my Africa tour from Douala, Cameroon, ... ... following the N3 road... ... to the country´s capital, Yaounde. Here we see the Sangha river in Central African Republic (and the road to Bayanga), where our last expedition was heading to. North Congo´s jungle, ... ... and Ubangi River, the border between Republic of the Congo https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_the_Congo and the "Democratic" Republic of the Congo https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_Republic_of_the_Congo. Read the wikipedia stories, and you can guess what life is down there. Congo River, the second largest river in the world by discharge volume, following only the Amazon. Interesting weather over Kisangani, DR Congo. 3000 kilometers away from the country´s capital it has 1.6 million inhabitants, and I had never heard of it before. The Rwenzori mountains at the border to Uganda get up to more than 4000 meters. Lake Edward. You can see the line in the middle of the picture? That is the equator, no joke. Entebbe below, ... ... before we turn south / right across Victoria Lake. It is the world´s 3rd largest lake by area, following the Caspian Sea and the Lake Superior. On its eastern side is the Serengeti, Tansania. Approaching some impressive mountains in the distance. And a lovely STAR, by the way... Lake Natron below. I am not sure if this lake is blue, but at least it contains water from time to time. Passing Mount Meru, 4500 m high and capturing clouds. Here we are on approach passing Arusha city, ... ... before the visibility gets a bit limited. At least Kilimanjaro Intl. can easily be seen for a safe final. VH-KDK
A wonderful flight Gerold covering a lot of ground in this one. Some fascinating facts on the way too, I would never have guessed the Congo River! You would have probably heard of Stanleyville, the former name of Kisangni, which like you, is a new one for me.

During flights like these there is quite some time to look at the scenery below, and find out about it. 2 hours ago, Jack Sawyer said: Another interesting tour. Thank you Jack. Thanks Martyn. To be honest I have also nwver heard about Stanleyville. But, meanwhile, I have read a lot about the colonial occupancy of these countries, how the inhabitants were treated, how they were released into independence and how the systems have developed since then. Good stories are rare in this region.

I can´t cover the continent just by flying low & slow, but the views would surely be more intense.
