gibo
A story on Hygiene. Last weekend whilst purchasing some products from my local pharmacy store, non COV related, the young checkout lady licked her finger to open a plastic bag for my products. I told her not to do that and to place my products into another bag. She then used a bottle of sanitiser that was sitting on the counter to clean her hands and replied that she needs to open the bags. I asked for a bag and showed her how to open it bwteen two fingers. She was not impressed, neither was I. After all the advice on hand cleanliness and a pharmacy of all places.

It is compounded when people panic and over buy, then the 'normal people' see the shelves going empty and fear they will have nothing when they need it, so they over buy, and it all just compounds. BrianV
Yes, it is terrible with Spain following closely the situation in Italy. The exponential growth of cases in all countries is terrible. It is extremely important to keep in mind that one might already be infected without any symptoms for a week or even more (average time though around 5 or 6 days). Thus, the social distancing and staying at home is key to control the situation. If we could all, but absolutely all, stay indoor and home for 3 weeks, this could be over. robpol471
Here in Italy if we have to leave the house, it is allowed only out of necessity such as for example those who are not exempted from work, go to supermarket or go to the pharmacy, we must fill in a self-certificate with a pre-filled form that can be downloaded from a government website specifying our identification data and why we leave home. If at a law enforcement check it is not true what you have declared you risk a criminal complaint in addition to a fine. The strange thing is that for among the rules of this module there is also that I certify that "I am not positive for COVID19" but it is now known that anyone could have been infected by COVID-19 but have no symptoms and notwithstanding that Italy is the nation of Europe that has done more swabs to check the positivity in people, over 100,000, it is impossible to do it on a population of 60 million but, I think it does not happen only in Italy, if we were 60 million ... politicians or VIPs the buffer is there they would have already done! Yesterday one of the leading European Virologists, a German, explained the British actions are just a different strategy to fight the virus. The aim is to get parts of the population immunazed before imposing a curfew. Which indeed could be of advatage for the time after the curfew is suspended again. Think, the virus will still be around then, in zhe UK and all other European countries. Immunity of parts of the population could help to prevent a new outbreak or at least to reduce the impact. The situation after the curfew in European countries, which have already now taken rigorous measures, might be not much different from how it was bevor this whole Corona thing startet. Just a few new infections and here we go again, because only a few people are immune. And what then? Another curfew? Waiting for a vaccine? Which strategy is the right one we will see. robpol471
Hi NeilG, In Italy we like to eat, love, sing and be united, unfortunately only in great calamities, but there is also who in this tragic moment wrote these words: He was my father. That of the photo a little blurred in yesterday's obituaries. He was my father. I remember him with a black black beard teaching me to kick a ball in the park below the house. She was my mother. That elegant lady died alone in the hospital because she could not enter. The greatest pain. Her. Alone. She was my mother. That made room for me in the big bed when I had a fever and it always seemed to me the only possible cure. He was my uncle. That gentleman with glasses who left among many yesterday. He was my uncle. The same that took me to play with model airplanes and made me fly with my feet on the ground. It was my aunt. The lady without a photo. Only date of birth and death. It was my aunt. Because we can't even go to his house to find a polaroid that portrays it. She who gave me the first camera at Christmas. They were my father. They were my mother. They were my uncles, my neighbors, parents, relatives of my friends. Those who, now, we cannot cry. Those who, now, we cannot hug each other to ease the pain. Those you don't know who I am. But I do. Those who, for some, are "only the old die", "yes, but they were already sick", "many more die from other causes". And, if you are one of those, it means that this, all this, has not really taught you anything.

Maurizio Giorgi
For all the countries, please take care, even if you think that you have few cases and the virus is far from you. You'll experiment quarantine before or after and if the intensive therapy available places in the hospitals are not enough, the medics will be forced to make a choice about who to reanimate or not. Coronavirus is now reported to be in all 50 US states after West Virginia confirmed its first case Tuesday . West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice announced at a news conference Tuesday that the state had a case of coronavirus. There is a blood shortage in Los Angeles. Social distancing has led to the cancellation of 160 major blood drives in the Los Angeles area in the past few weeks, which has resulted in a blood shortage.Dr. Christina Ghaly, director of L.A. County Health Services, said there are 5,500 fewer blood donations than usual. “It is safe to give and receive blood,” she said, noting a lack of evidence that coronavirus can be spread through blood. Disaster plans are being activated and Ghaly said she feels confident that the medical system will be able to manage the surge in patients. Hospitals are also prepping for need of respirators and blood supplies, she said. The county is receiving and filling requests from hospitals for personal protective equipment, including masks, gloves, gowns, and hand sanitizer. California Emergency Services delivered additional stockpiles of these supplies on Monday, Ghaly said. French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe has warned the UK must up its coronavirus quarantine measures, in a further sign that some European leaders are uneasy with the UK’s approach to reducing the spread of virus. Speaking on French state TV channel France 2, Philippe said: “There are confinements in Italy, in Spain. But for instance, if the UK continues not to apply any measures, we will find it difficult to accept British nationals on our territory.”
