hunky123
Quote I have P3DV4 installed in C:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3Dv4. It worked fine with FTX, but I can't upgrade to ORBX Central as it can't find my P3DV4 installation. When it flags up the message to browse to my install, I do so, but it still can't find it. I have run P3D before the Central install, no difference. I also run the Central install as administrator, still no go. If the fix involves editing the registry, that's OK but I would need clear instructions please. I had this same problem with Central 4.0.10 and no different with the new .13 version. Help please. Guest Josh Koz
Hi @hunky123 Unfortunately your log file doesn't include what error actually occurred only that one had. I've made a change which will be in the next update Orbx Central which logs the exact error that occurred when submitting the registry fix. Was Orbx Central running as an administrator when you attempted to fix the registry?
hunky123
Hi Josh Yes, absolutely. I've tried this many, many times now in every way I can think of. It always fails hence never creates a log file to show the problem. It's also stopping me installin the latest Orbx scenery purchases which is a pain. What may help is that although I've installed and updated P3DV4 in the normal way, for some reason it doesn't appear in my Win 10 64 installed programmes and to run it I've made a shortcut on my desktop to run it from the exe file. (tried it run as administrator and not - no difference perceived). I saw somewhere a method of fixing this by tweaking the registry but can't find it again. It was a registry fix to add the unlisted problem programme to the list of normal start up programmes. I can use Regdit but I'm no expert and I'd need precise instructions to avoid screwing things up. - hunky123
Doug Sawatzky
Hi Maybe try reinstalling the P3Dv4 client only.
hunky123
Hi Doug, I only recently installed the latest updated version. I don't understand why it doesn't appear on my installed program list. I have X-Plane 11 and DCS as well as FSX-Steam and they all appear on my Win 10 menu. Doug Sawatzky
Hi Mel That is the reason I am asking you to reinstall the P3DV4 client again.
hunky123
Hi Doug, Josh...Team OK last night I downloaded again the latest P3D4 zip file and unzipped it to enable the install.exe file. I ran it as administrator, directed it to the same default location and clicked on the 'uninstall existing' option. It did so, then I installed as administrator into the same location. This time, it finished with a correct entry in my Win 10 64 program start menu. I ran P3D4.5 now from the programs start menu, no problem, and it ran fine on the default flight, VR also. Problem solved I thought. I closed P3D and downloaded again the Orbx Central install file, latest version, ran it as administrator. Same message - can't find my P3Dv4 installation! I fed in as requested the correct P3D location, got that same message, Orbx Central installation can't perform the required registry change as it doesn't have admin privileges so I need to run the Orbx Central as administrator, which I had done. Back in that loop again. I can try over and over, always the same. I can't install any new Orbx products so I have had to stop buying any. VERY frustrating. Help please! Regards Mel . Nick Cooper
Hello Mel, the registry entry is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\AppPath and it must be exactly the same as the path to your P3D root folder, which you tell us is C:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3Dv4 Are you logged on as an administrator to the PC? hunky123
Hi Nick, team, I still haven't been able to resolve my problem in getting Orbx Central to install with P3D V4 on my Win10 64 PC. My system is running all the popular flightsims one at a time by using a boot system for an SSD with the Windows install plus the flight sim of choice installed. It has always been working fine for a year now, the only downside is as the added sceneries and aircraft are increasing the time taken to save and recall is getting pretty long, especially on X-Plane 11 and P3D4.5. So until Orbx Central came on the scene, I had no problem using Orbx FTX scenery manager running with each flight sim- smooth operation always, and in that time I have purchased a lot of Orbx sceneries.. Now, as per my previous post on this point, I am still stuck with Orbx Central refusing to install, so my flying has stopped, as have my purchases of Orbx scenery until it can be sorted. So to make a straightforward test, I recalled my working X-Plane setup and deleted/uninstalled the whole XPlane simulation, (it's backed up elsewhere) so a working up to date windows 64 system with no flightsim installed. I then installed the latest P3DV4.5 and ran it a couple of times. No problem (and so much faster without all the add-ons.) It had installed correctly in the default location (C:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3Dv4}, and this time had installed correctly so that it was listed in my start menu, and in the right place in my Registry. I thought 'wow, now this should work!) So I downloaded the latest version of Orbx Central yet again from the Orbx site (4.0.15) and ran the exe file as administrator. It gave every appearance of installing, then came the familiar GUI and I noticed that P3D V4 was already showing in the black box top left. It asked for me to log in, which I did, using the correct email and password that always gets me into the Orbx website. ( I clicked on 'log in'.). I get a message, 'select simulator, or was it simulation.., the only one offered was 'P3D V4, so I selected that. comes the message : 'loading products and libraries' ...(Wow, getting excited) ...log in comes up again...correct email already entered...I enter password again....from there on it's just a loop that's never resolves. None of the menu buttons produces anything except the 'Downloads' button That messages 'Download queue: There are no products in the queue'. I checked in Mel -App Data-Roaming-Orbx Central-Logs- No log file had been created. There are a couple of other win10 64 PCs in the house so I did a trial install of Central on those, without any flightsim installed, it went in no problem and went off looking for a flight sim. couldn't find one but it quickly created a log file. HELP! (Just so you know, all my PCs are running up to date Kaspersky Internet Security, all settings the same, and it certainly had no effect on those other 2 PCs where I ran the Central install) Mel hunky123 melmail47@gmail.com . hunky123
Hi Nick Happy days! That was the problem. I have never checked the time on this PC. So thank you! I have Central all set up; I've just read the Central manual through. I now have a vanilla install of P3DV4.5 with no add-on sceneries or aircraft but a large amount waiting to be reinstalled. Just three important questions please: 1: I will start with installing via Central all my ORBX sceneries .Is there a recommended order to do the installs please? As my C drive is an fast SSD raid, I have my Windows 10 on there, my P3D V4.5, and as it's a pretty large drive, (1TB) I've put my main Orbx library too, currently empty, in the root of C:. 2: Do you think that will be workable? 3: If the free space becomes an issue, it looks from the Central manual as though I'd be able to migrate the main library it to another drive on the PC - Correct? Thanks again Nick! Best regards Mel Hunky123

Correct, if you wish to move your library in the future you can by following the 'Moving a library to another location' section in the user guide. hunky123
Hi Mitchell, That raises just one question though. I thought I'd read somewhere I had to put one of the files inside the P3D V4 folder and not in the main library? Regards Mel hunky123
Nick Cooper
Hello, are you confusing Orbx Library and Orbx Central Library perhaps? The Orbx Library does at present leave one file in the P3D v4 folder. It is 12 kb in size, so it should not cause a problem with disk space. Orbx Central does this for you. The rest of the Orbx Library will be moved to your Orbx Central P3D v4 Library.
hunky123
Hi Nick Thanks for your response. But bear in mind I had decided to start afresh with a clean Win10 installation and then install the latest P3D V4.5 with no add ons as yet. First install will be all my Orbx sceneries using my now succesfully installed Orbx Central. Mitchell has said the order I install them doesn't matter, so that's good to know. I' have installed P3DV4.5 on the same C drive (SSD ITB raid) as Windows 10, as well as the Orbx Central library, also on C:, in the root, and currently empty. So am I correct in assuming that the Orbx library you mention, in my case, doesn't exist yet? I am confused about the Orbx Library you mention though. I'm aware of the Orbx Libraries that are installed as part of, or along with the scenery installs and must be kept updated through time. Obviously I won't have any of those installed yet as I have no Orbx add-ons yet. So is there an Orbx Library as well? If so where is it/will it be, and do I have to make a directory for it? I'll get there in the end....thank you for your patience. Regards Mel hunky123
Nick Cooper
Hello Mel, please take a look at the Orbx Central user guide, it tells you what you need to do and how to do it. You can access it either in Orbx Central itself, or here. https://orbx.to/central-guide
