TrueEarth Netherlands - Aerofly FS 2 - Install

Hi,

I just bought last evening True Earth Netherlands for Aerofly FS 2 and downloaded / installed by FTX Central 3.

I thought this Orbx version for FS2 will be installed like my same earlier bought version for Prepar3D v4, but it got installed in a separate location outside my FS 2 install.

I didn't like that so I did a cut and paste of the orbx_ftxnld folder in ...\addons\scenery\ inside my FS 2 install. So far so good, very nice!

But afterwards I noticed that I used FTX Central 3, and I read about Orbx Central as the new product installer.

So, I uninstalled FTX Central 3 by install of Orbx Central.

Orbx Central shows me my earlier bought Prepar3D v4 and X-Plane versions BUT doesn't show True Earth Netherlands for Aerofly FS 2.

I tried several things, but even a new download by now the Orbx Central product installer won't work...

Everything works fine for Prepar3D v4 and X-Plane, like file checking and product updates, but not for Aerofly FS 2.

What do I do wrong? Or is this a 'bug'?

My compliments to Orbx for this version of True Earth Netherlands, I like my city The Hague.

I hope only that it  will be dressed up a bit for Schiphol and things like a missing Pier Scheveningen, that is what I noticed shortly after airborne in the Robinson R22 helicopter.

Happy Flying!

Hello Nick,

Thanks for your swift reply.

I started to get FTX Central again downloaded but first I unstalled Orbx Central 4.0.4 (got in the morning this update from 4.0.2 to 4.0.4).

After install of FTX Central and looking for my Aerofly FS 2 products, the app returned my deleted folder "E:\Aerofly FS 2 Flight Simulator AddOns".

Now the app showed me that I had to install  orbx_ftxnld again which I did. FTX Central shows me finally again all the Orbx products for Prepar3D v4, X-Plane-11 and Aerofly FS 2.

Success!

But than I thought that Orbx Central will be the future so I installed it once again. But I got same result (and now install of orbx_ftxnld is not changed by me!), the product is not shown in the Aerofly FS 2 simulator selection. That I don't get it! Why FTX Central can and Orbx Central not. Anyway I uninstalled Orbx Central and continu with FTX Central for some time.

Why a new app by the way? The only thing what is not so smart by FTX Central is that you have to close the app and start it up again to select your other simulator(s).

So was that not possible wth just an update of FTX Central?

Last question, why can the Orbx products not be installed inside my Aerofly FS 2 install? Like with Prepar3D v4 and X-Plane. For me it is so much easier to maintain.

Also FTX Central is not asking me where to install this product, it just made itself the folder Aerofly FS 2 Flight Simulator AddOns (outside of my Aerofly FS 2 install).

When you copy the addons\scenery\orbx_ftxnld\ part inside the install it works also, also when I deleted the outside folder install.

Is it a restriction of IPACS not to do it inside of the simulator install?

Thanks for your time!

Happy Flying!

Hi!

Is your install of Aerofly FS 2 via Steam or DVD? This may be an issue with Central handles them.

It has been completely rewritten with loads of new features and improvements.

Aerofly FS 2 should have a separate add-ons folder (which is how Central installs it), though depending on if your install is DVD-based or Steam-based there may be an issue within Central that needs to be addressed.

Hi Mitchell,

I bought the DVD version by DLC (digital download) from Aerosoft.

My Aerofly FS 2 install doesn't have an addons folder, that's why maybe True Earth Netherlands was installed outside my Aerofly FS 2 install in the folder E:\Aerofly FS 2 Flight Simulator AddOns. But when I made by myself an addons folder in my Aerofly FS 2 install afterwards and cut/paste my new scenery inside,  FTX Central and Orbx Central can not find the scenery anymore when I want to do a check for update(s).

So, my Orbx scenery of the Netherlands is still outside, and that I don't like, I want everything inside the program itself where I bought it for. I do have 5 different Flight Simulators now, and I bought the Netherlands scenery for Prepar3D and for Aerofly FS 2. Separated folders of a scenery gives me a headache, because after a while I don't know anymore where it belongs for.

It was better that the Orbx installer made the missing addons folder inside by itself from install of the Orbx scenery or at least asks what I like to be done. Now it made a new folder by itself outside without asking if a liked that.

So what is a solution to solve this?

Thanks for your replying and your time!

Happy R22 Flying!

Hi!

Just to confirm, when Orbx Central installs into E:\Aerofly FS 2 Flight Simulator AddOns, TrueEarth Netherlands does not work in the simulator? If it doesn't work, then this is likely a compatibility issue with Aerofly FS 2 DVD version which we'll need to address in a Central update.

The Aerofly FS 2 Steam version uses a separate add-ons folder, which is what we used when we wrote the installer for AFS2.

If this doesn't work with the DVD version, let us know and we'll get this fixed for you.

Hi Mitchell,

I don't have the Steam version but the DVD version. Again I don't like the separate folder "Aerofly FS 2 Flight Simulator AddOns" like you mention above.

If I uninstall the Orbx scenery AND and add the missing folder "AddOns"' to my Aerofly FS 2 install and run the Orbx installer again, will it place the scenery inside this "AddOns" or will it still install OUTSIDE my Aerofly FS 2 install  in the same folder "Aerofly FS 2 Flight Simulator AddOns" as above. I can try by myself of course, but it saves some time if it doesn't work after all.

I hope now that my point is clear, I want to have the whole install of any Flight Simulator with any scenery, planes, helicopters, ufo's, you name it, for that Flight Simulator close together inside the same install directory of that Flight Simulator.

Thanks for your replying and your time!

Happy R22 Flying!

Hello,

the installer will install to Aerofly FS 2 Flight Simulator AddOns.

In my test, the installer created a folder named Aerofly FS 2 Flight Simulator AddOns

inside the Aerofly FS 2 Flight Simulator folder and then installed the files into

the Aerofly FS 2 Flight Simulator AddOns folder outside the simulator.

I do not know why it did this.

Hello Nick,

That is also strange, and again it will be helpful if the installer shows what it is going to do with an option for me to chose a different folder etc. I think this is the best way to do.

Greetings and nice weekend.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi,

I just installed the latest Orbx Central version once more and still it doesn't see my True Earth Netherlands scenery for Aerofly FS 2.

So....? What to do?

I didn't do anything with Steam in the past. What can I check to solve this?

Regards,

Hi @MolrikE,

Installing into a separate "addons" directory was something IPACS strongly recommended we do.

We will look into allowing installs directly into the simulator, but we do not have a timeframe on when this will be done.

Given that both Orbx Central and TrueEarth Netherlands are working as designed, I'll mark this as "noted" for now.

Just to confirm, does Aerofly FS 2 DVD load Netherlands correctly when it's installed into the "Aerofly FS 2 Flight Simulator AddOns" directory?

I double checked the code for FTX Central 3 with Aerofly FS 2 DVD - it installs to the exact same place:

"RootModifier": "..\\Aerofly FS 2 Flight Simulator AddOns",

Yes yes yes, THAT's my problem also, I mentioned before!

I can enjoy the Orbx product with FTX Central. I'm flying with the R22 above The Hague, Netherlands for sure!

But when I install Orbx Central it doesn't see the product, which FTX Central does see as installed.

So still...Orbx Central is a no go for my Aerofly FS 2, BUT I wanna solve this before maybe support for FTX Central is discontinued for coming other Orbx products!

I have FTX Central installed AND Orbx Central installed at this moment because I like to see first Orbx Central working for Aerofly FS 2.

I could not choose the scenery manager by myself, I could only install it by FTX Central.

See the images for the result.

Thanks for helping!

I know already of course that something is not set well by programs like Aerosoft FS 2 & Orbx in my computer otherwise it should work like for others.

Maybe show me how the settings in Windows Registry should be set, than I can compare by myself.

Maverickjv had also quite similar problems and solved it with editing the register:

Thanks Nick
