Sedimentary my dear Watson!

Flying along in the PA-60 up the Rhondda Fawr Valley in South Wales.

The towns of Treherbert and Blaenrhondda are ahead. Both are former colliery towns which reached their peak in the 1920s.

Beyond here is the Blaenrhondda road cutting. The A4061 road works has exposed sedimentary layers formed on a river delta in the Carboniferous Period some 310 million years ago.

Very cool.  History, aviation, geography.  I'm such a nerd.  I heart this, but I reached my daily allowance.

Thanks, plenty to look and learn from each other on the forums here.:)

Great shot, Martyn. Now I have to get my old school atlas out to see where "Blaenrhondda" is. What a name, but I've seen even weirder ones in NZ :)

Wierd you say - Schmedeswurtherwesterdeich?

Ah, I've missed those puns! 10/10 for the title, and the pic's not bad either <grin>.

Thanks Andy, glad you liked the post.:)

I hope you don't think I am taking punitive action against you!

No, I think I prefer to be a Mooroopnaian.

French was never a strong subject at skool!

I'll never forget "Ou est la plume de ma tante?"  Or the ever popular "une zwei trois vier cinq sechs sept acht neuf zehn" - has a very EU ring :).

Very interesting Jean Marc.

The history of our planet is so fascinating.

We used to learn about things like this at school in the old days when kids were taught useful relevant things.;):footmouth::lol:
