Recommended Posts

I though it would be interesting for those who want, to share all of the places they lived at.  I would imagine since most of us here are older some of us might have and still live in some interesting places.  I will go first although my list is rather dull.

Started out in Bartlesville, OK.

Went to college in Stillwater, OK

Moved to Enid, OK

Moved back to Bartlesville, OK

Moved to Borger,  TX

Moved back to Barlesville, OK

Hey John. I have to guess that the Forum folks have covered the world. Here's my two cents.

Born Washington State, USA - first 25 years

Worked and lived overseas for eight years --Japan, Korea, Taiwan, VietNam, Turkey, Germany, Iceland, Canada, Bermuda, Portuguese Azores. Visited others.

New Jersey - 3 years

North Dakota -7 years

Minnesota  -3 years

Washington State - last thirty years

Best place? Not to be hoity, but I honestly have really enjoyed them all. Everyplace is interesting if you let it be.

Born and raised in the UK, Surrey. At 26 years old, started travelling (working and living abroad): Paris, France, 5 years: Crete, Greece 12 years; India (all over the country) c.4 years; Bangkok, Thailand 2 years; Colombo, Sri Lanka 2 years; Jaffna, Sri Lanka 2 years.

Now I have grandchildren (I am 61 now), I'm back in the UK, feeling a bit 'deflated' to be honest!

I feel you.  It is a bit hard to relate to others, or for others to relate to you, having had that kind of life experience in all these places.

Born and raised in a few places around the San Francisco Bay Area.

Worked and lived for a year in Chicago.

Came back to the Bay Area.

Recently relocated to Western Washington.

Tons of family and friends in the Bay Area still, and hard to beat the weather there. It's also too damn expensive to raise a family and crime is on the rise due to a lot of different factors. Chicago has frigid winters, punishing humidity, salt of the earth people that I really got along with, and AMAZING Italian food everywhere. Washington has been utterly amazing. My family is happier than they've ever been, our neighborhood is like Mayfield in a time capsule, and it's very aviation centric.

Having lived only in England and Malaya, I'm not very interesting.  Now my wife was a real travellor. Born in Hainan, lived in Xewen, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Chifeng, London and now Minehead and, in case you're wondering, she's half and half Chinese and English.  Her temper is all Chinese though!  Don't get on the wrong side of her!!!

Martinlest and Ripcord, when I came back to the US after being overseas for an extended period, I remember wondering if I'd ever fit in again. In one way, I never did -- many years later, I still find it hard to listen to an uninformed, parochial point of view--but in other ways I fit better than ever. I'm far more grateful for my standard of living, I'm far more willing to participate in the responsibilities of citizenship, and I'm far more interested in international events. Also, I I keep running into others --this thread, for example--who share this history and experience, so I know I'm not a totally odd duck. All in all, glad I got the expansion.

It might sound that way now Steve but it was in the two years 1951/52 when the communist uprising and terrorism was at its highest!  I was bloody glad to get home!

Now there's an interesting question, where have I lived:

Born and spent formative years in South London - Croydon/ Upper Norwood/Crystal Palace area

Moved to West London for employment - Brentford first then moved to about 1nm from the start of Heathrow 28L (Concord was fun)

Upon retirement moved to Dorset where I currently reside.

I don't like moving.

Down in the Caprock or Palo Duro there are places that would pass for the "sandbox".

Back in the day use to visit a pal in Happy.

Did you know that Palo Duro canyon is the second largest canyon in the United States, after The Grand Canyon.  Only in area not in depth.

Well I lived most of my life in the Pittsburgh, PA area. Spent a year in San Antonio, TX and another three years in Augusta, GA. My wife and I have traveled about either on the Harley or on several cruises. I’m satisfied! It is interesting to read where others have lived.
