Before the 'Premier League' was invented, Newcastle United was the closest English club to Edinburgh so us youngsters paid attention to their play. This was in the days of the five man front line and the leather ball that had to be changed continuously during a rainy match.

Different days then, with a lot of the grass gone from the pitches by November! I can remember watching on tv, them winning the Fairs Cup in 1969 and going to St James's Park in 1972 to see Bournemouth take them on in the FA Cup. We lost 2-0 but I did see Malcolm MacDonald play, one of my all time favourite players.
