Australia V2

Recommended Posts

Good day everyone, first post.

What will distinguish Australia V2 over V1? Will it just be plain "better", will more features be included, will there be photoreal areas, etc? Is there a specific release date available? I've enjoyed FTX Australia so much I'm just not sure what to expect with Australia V2. Any insight into this would be great, or even a link to where this question has been answered before.

Kind regards,

Chad

There have been numerous recent interviews with John V. This one from www.theskylounge.tv

"He went on to also confirm that Orbx will be going back to where it all started and are actively developing Australia V2 and will be released next year. It is a paid upgrade, but customers who have purchased before will receive a big discount. It will use the new technology, include new textures and vector data and every airport will be upgraded. He also said there is a possibility of some photoreal scenery for the Great Barrier Reef."

So to deduce from this and paraphrase other articles, Australia V1 was done with old technology. To bring it in to line with other regions, Orbx are using those regions technologies to update Australia. You will also get added bonuses.

Thank you so much! That's just what I was looking for.

Talking of Australia, I did notice that on my first visit there I landed at Darwin (using X-Plane v11.26) to have a look at the local scenery in and around the main airport only to discover that there are NO airport buildings and NO static aircraft - just the runway only. So any future upgrades to the default scenery would I'm sure be appreciated by users of this sim, especially the users from down under!

I look forward to seeing a direct comparison shot of V1 versus V2, perhaps for the same location in Australia. I think we are in for a treat with all the texture improvements made since the first release of Australia. This new version is high on my wish list, and I dare say on the wish list for most if not all!

It very well should be! It has been a long time since Australia V1 was developed, and I agree, I think we are in for a treat for the greatest continent on the planet! (In my honest opinion :D)

I can’t wait for V2 I’m sure it’s going to be amazing. Look I agree fly Tampa done a great job with YSSY but I live right next to the airport and you just don’t get that vibe of being there with FT’s rendition plus it feels a little outdated. Yes it’s accurate but the surroundings of the airport needs much more detail to capture that Sydney feeling. I did see earlier in the year a guy with a nice camera being escorted around the airport to take photos... orbx ? Dreaming is for free right  excited for V2 nonetheless

It depends on how much you must have Australia as a region. AU2 will be offered as a discount to AU1 previous purchasers. So if you can wait, I'd say wait for AU2. If you can't wait, buy AU1 knowing that you will get the update at a discounted price.

As has been mentioned before that ORBX will not be doing larger airports in Aus anymore, it would be a nice touch if Perth with all it's major upgrades may be included in V2 ? As the larger airports on the East coast got done and then redone plus cityscapes for some reason Perth seems to have been forgotten with only Jandakot being done. Ah Well I can dream can't I ;-)

It will also include a Melbourne Cityscape, brand new landclass textures, upgraded coastal waters and much more.

A cityscape of Melbourne is a dream come true. Please also consider doing a cityscape of Sydney as a separate Payware Addon, I'd buy that for sure. Looking forward to Australia V2. V1 was my first ORBX Addon ever.

I understand from reading past posts that the default airports are being upgraded. Does this include improvements to airports that are already offered separately by Orbx? Not to the same level as those airports, but still improved over default, with new buildings, grass, Peopleflow, etc.?

The Three Sisters at Katoomba would be a cool addition , maybe some other POI around Oz as well . Just some goal sight seeing in between the various orbx airports airports . Not everyone likes to look down at the clouds :)

Help yourself with this add-on, VH-EEE, for the time being:

Thank you, Holger! I'm in. I love NZNI, NZSI, the four NZ airports, and Mr. Eccleston's AI Traffic so much, can't pass this up. I can purchase the airports later. Now deciding if I buy now or wait for V2 to come out... :)

Hi patful,

Yes, all of the ~370 default Australian airports will be enhanced to our region-typical level, including those for which stand-alone payware versions exist. And then there are another 300+ non-default airports and airstrips we're adding.

Cheers, Holger

I always wondered about how to go about adding new new default airports in P3D/fsx.

For inclusion in the official Lockheed copy I mean.

Xplane is easy you just submit a request and walla its there .

Every airport in Australia is defaulf in X plane .

I have about 70 default 3d enhanced approved for inclusion in the next major release, with 4 new Airparks opened in the last few years.

I should actually start doing them again, or make my own custom ones .

So how will these interconnect with OZX, both existing OZX airports and other files developers have done around Aus?

VH-EEE, Lockheed-Martin doesn't offer any pathway for directly including third-party scenery content. Thus, self-publishing or uploading to general file libraries like Avsim are your only options.

Also would the mesh of Australia V2 change much to effect other add-ons like the OZx stuff ?

It depends on the locality. AUv2 will include a new terrain mesh file made from government data that, in many locations, will be noticeably more detailed and accurate than the current "Holgermesh". For example, many of the urban and coastal areas are based on recent LIDAR data, which is the new standard for high-resolution digital elevation data. On the other hand, interior Australia won't have changed much in terms of terrain so it depends where the airport or scenery is located and how much it depends on the local topography.

Craig, we can't possibly test all that ourselves. However, as with other regions, each airport we include consists of a separate file set that can be deactivated if one prefers an alternative version. My understanding is that most OZx airports and scenery add-ons are based on photoreal patches. Since our airports are located using real-world imagery too one would assume that they match well spatially so it's just a matter of using one or the other.

Cheers, Holger

There used to be a link ( i cant find now think it was an OZx thing) for the google earth overlay of all Australia airports made ... Would that have been updated recently ?

Only wondering because of the announcement of Australia V2 having 300 or so more airports added when it comes out ( cc out of wallet already)

Just wondering which ones they would be , could i look in orbx folder to see whats included now in the last version . .

Ok Thanks  . Was just meaning actually  telling Lockheed they exist to include as default , not in the way of enhanced ones

Couldn't wait, bought Australia last night, and flew around waaay past my bedtime. Very impressed. Given its age, I was expecting a rusty Model T with three wheels. Nope, awesome scenery with great frame rates, now looking forward to all of those updated airports next year, hopefully really early next year! Thanks.

In addition to the ~370 default airports, we went through the Wikipedia pages -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_airports_in_Australia#Australian_Capital_Territory_(ACT) (the separate pages for each state/territory) -- and Air Services Australia databases to select those which we could confirm on Google Earth or Bing. The full AIS list has some 2355 entries but most of those are tiny airstrips on stations without precise location data or facilities.

If you want a list of the default airports (for any country) and have ADE installed you can load the global "airportList.dat" file into a spreadsheet or text editor and sort/search/edit as needed.

The current version of FTX Australia has only two enhanced airports, YLHI Lord Howe Island and YSNF Norfolk Island.

Will the previous payware airports still blend well with Australia v2?

patful, yes that's the plan. Keep in mind that those photoreal areas shown in the preview post are "just" local areas, like in FTX PNW or Germany North/South, focusing on areas that are difficult to portray with generic landclass, like pit mines, salt lakes, and reefs. Overall, it's still a landclass-based product -- and for obvious reasons when comparing TE Great Britain South's 42,000 sq mi to Australia's 2,941,000 sq mi

The ADE method would have saved me a few minutes :D

Possibly should have waited for this answer !!!

Onto Ant's and OZx entries now .

Looking forward to doing the additions when V2 comes .

All in the aid of installing the better model of the airport , fairly simple huh :D:D:D

Holger,

Is there a list of the 300+ non default airports anywhere?

It would be nice to see what overlap there is between Australia V2 airports and OzX airports
