This is Hahn, reached by plane after about 20 minutes. Ryanair names this place "Frankfurt-Hahn", what a joke.

Wineyards at the Mosel...

... on the way to Trier. With more than 2000 years having city rights, this is Germanys oldest one. Many roman ruins and buildings here, with the most famous one being the Porta Nigra https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porta_Nigra . It is just below the King Air.

Up the rivers comes the next famous sight: The Saarschleife.

Very nice images. We were stationed at Hahn from 1964-1967. My first memory is wearing my dad's helmet in the back of an HH-43B when I was three. My love for all things flying started right there.

Thank you for the comment. Your time there is long ago, the place must have changes a lot.

well narrated, some of those rivers looks pretty much like red bull air race

Thant´s a good idea! If you only go low (and slow) enough.... Though @Jack Sawyer would probably do it in a 747 as well.

Excellent pictures and very informative story, as always! I admit I can't make the Porta Nigra out on this screenshot though... -_-

Thank you Lars. It is not as black as expected:

Dadgum, if I keep reading your posts Gerold, I'm gonna know more about your home country than I know about my own! :D  Great job Sir!

Rest assured Roger: I learn a lot about my country as well. Orbx may charge us for that!

Thanks, Gerold. Another set of keepers. By the way, Ramstein AFB has a great pizza shop. Just sayin' Thanks!

Wow, that is really interesting knowledge. Is it allowed for civilians to eat there? I have been to the nearby Kaiserslautern some times, so it could just be around the corner.

Yet another excellent tour Gerold!  I never knew there were Roman ruins there, I'd love to see that.

Thanks Jack. Just look at the GES sceenies above. Or here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trier

What a superb trip, Gerold! You have shown me quite a few places I have never been too, and in some cases most probably never will :)

Same with me Bernd. We are not travelling in private planes usually, are we :D?

Top class tour Gerold and the tour guide does his job exceedingly well.

I am still blown away by the quality of the scenery in GES and GEN.:)

Thank you Martyn. I will tell the guide in case I meet him.

Indeed the quality of GES is outstanding, a must-have for anyone who likes to discover our virtual world.

Hi Stillwater RE your Ramstein pizza question--I don't know about civilian entry. In today's hypervigilant world,  I' would guess not. But Kaiserslautern has its own nice restaurants and bars. One of the best nights of my life was spent in a Kaiserslautern local bar. The back table was peopled by a bunch of German veterans who got together weekly. I was a young guy in his twenties, and they graciously invited me to sit and drink with them. They got to telling war stories and laughing and crying. I could have listened forever. Wonderful memory!

Nice memories, Rodger. I can add just a little one: When I came to the Dorint hotel Kaiserslautern on the Betzenberg for a training course, I arrived one day earlier than expected by the hotel. And, as president Clinton was at Ramstein on the day, the hotel was fully booked by US journalists. I was lucky to get a chamber with an impromptu bed for the first night...

Now that must have been a truly rowdy crowd!
