OmniAtlas
Fantastic, I will be looking forward to the release Good to see Australia is finally getting more love. Yes, Hamilton would be a great airport to tackle next - great scenery in that area ; I will also be waiting patiently for the new Australia TrueEarth
Holger Sandmann
Hi guys, I've removed a bunch of unrelated comments. This is a preview thread for a specific airpoirt add-on so please stay on-topic. FYI, Australia v2 won't be a TrueEarth product, meaning completely photo-real, for obvious reasons: 42,000 sq km (Netherlands) vs. 7,700,000 sq km Australia. AUv2 planned features were mentioned here: https://orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/144533-ftxau-upgrade/?tab=comments#comment-1275979 Cheers, Holger
teecee
Thank goodness..I struggled to get The Netherlands on to my Raid Array, and I certainly could not have got Aus to install in that format. Teecee.
Neil
Quite simply WOW! This may be the best rendition of airside, seen to date. The airport vehicles, clutter, the aircraft at the gate, reminds me of the look achieved at Innsbruch. Well done Matteo. The Gold Coast and airport seem to have ignited renewed interest in Australia. A few new airports to this standard, most of the current airports are quite well done, will really set up for Australia V2. I can definitely see walking the flightline! macca22au
JV is not like some others, he will tell you straight. If I recall he said that a team were re-doing Aus as a full-fat region. That is absolutely fine by me. But i do like Musketeers idea of some photoreal around the main cities, but I know it would be some way into the future. NZ would be ideal for the TE treatment, but I won't hold my breath.

Great idea about NZ. Tailor made for TE! Dont know why the full fat failed to take off, such a beautiful landscape

tennyson
Honestly, I think it's the best looking piece of software to come from ORBX, alongside LOWI and YBBN, of course. The rest are fabulous, too, though! Frank

ismacmatic
Hi Matteo and Orbx. Congratulations on your YBCG - I live nearby and can vouch for the impressive accuracy. But while I am pleased to see YSPT Southport included, it is not the nearest airfield to YBCG. Murwillumbah's 'Whittle Field', YMUR, is a smaller but active, working airfield in the beautiful Tweed Valley just five GA flying minutes (20km) south-west of YBCG . It supports several aviation businesses including cropdusters, a vintage aircraft restorer and a flying club. There are a number of hangars both old and new, along with other facilities on both sides of the 800m grass runway, and roughly 30 aircraft 'live' at the field. Given that it is used often for training flights (both fixed wing and rotary) to and from YBCG and elsewhere, has a very attractive location yet no landing fees, it deserves serious attention as a handy adjunct to Gold Coast Airport. Whittle Field is named after a local WWII ace, Bob Whittle DFM, who flew Tomahawks and Kittyhawks for both the RAF and RAAF and accounted for 13 enemy aircraft in North Africa and the Pacific. Fortunately he lived to return to Murwillumbah and to his pre-war profession of pharmacy. I was honoured to know Bob - a very fine man and pilot. I realise that the scenery is 'done and dusted', but it would be great to see a future inclusion of YMUR in the YBCG scenery. Meanwhile, anyone having FTX-AU and the freeware OZ-x add-on will find a pleasing and pretty accurate rendition of Whittle Field close to the Tweed River township of Murwillumbah, about 11nm south-west of Gold Coast Airport. I believe YMUR was by John Ross - many thanks to John for his work. And thanks again, Matteo and Orbx for doing YBCG for FSX in fine style. christiaan
According to the information YBCG was released on the 8th of May, however I cannot find this new Gold Coast airport in the Oceana products page of ORBX. Is it still in the Beta testing stage?
