Does anyone know of a link that gives the step by step tutorial on how to install and run add-ons in prepar3d v4? Secondly, besides ORBX are there must have add ons (either paid or free) that make simming awesome? Thanks in advance.

Hi pilot100ll,

Most payware add-ons have installer .exe files, but here are the manual installation instructions for freeware and if you need to manually install payware for some reason.

Note that these tutorials are for FSX, but the procedure for P3D is very similar.  Wherever you see "C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Microsoft Flight Simulator X", this is basically your P3D install path.  Also, wherever you see "Addon Scenery" in any of the paths in the tutorial, this is "Scenery" in P3D.

Installing add-on aircraft:

Installing aircraft repaints/textures:

https://flyawaysimulation.com/knowledge/page/32/installing-aircraft-repaints-textures-in-microsoft-flight/

Installing scenery:

Glad to help.

hmmmmm for P3Dv4?

WEATHER:  Active Sky 16 ( Introducing Active Sky for P3Dv4: featuring P3Dv4 integration, a 64-bit ASConnect interface, 64-bit XGauge, improved visibility depiction, turbulence effect enhancements, active runway data and more. This will be a FREE UPGRADE for all AS16 for P3D users. ) and ASCA ( SP1 for ASCA brings brand new softer cloud textures, a new cirrus set, revamped original cloud and sky textures, new natural sky color sets, new integration and API capability, improved overall resolution, improved overcast depiction, new geographic wx-influence profiles, and several new UI features including new option, plus more! )

AIRCRAFT:  Be careful of buying any AC which was designed for FSX three years ago.  Level of gauges and textures may be really ugly.  Most of Alabeo products have been very good products, but no big AC developers have yet to 'redo' any of their tired old planes for FSX in years.

I want to say thanks for all the input. This will get me started on the right path. If I understand this correctly after installing the add-on's I should just open the .exe file and let the installer do the work. Is that right? Why am I under the impression that I need to make copies of files, new directories and the like and also change file extension names? Like I said in my first post, there's a lot of wanna-bee's out there where I get this from.

1) download the add-on's I want and run the .exe or....

A) download the add-on's I want

B) open the file directory for prepar3d (ie: aircraft, scenery etc)

C) copy/move the downloaded add-on aircraft or scenery etc into the specific file folder

As far as I know, these steps are all that you need to install non Orbx add-ons.

As far as I know there is no directory creation that needs to be done.

By all means be careful but there are some simply superb aircraft models available,

some from as far back as 2008 that will stand up next to the newest models and

are entirely P3Dv4 compatible.

Old certainly does not mean tired.

Quality is quality almost regardless of age and the same may be said of rubbish.
