Blanco Bolo

VH-KDK

Recommended Posts

The Douglas B-18 Bolo was the immediate predecessor to many of the famous American WW2 bombers.

It was however totally obsolete when it entered service, with it's lack of speed, defensive armament and bomb load.

It ended up as a useful anti-submarine plane for the US and Canada sinking 3 U-boats.

Great shots and interesting backstory Martyn.  Isn't it amazing that they always found a use even for obsolete planes?  Not much wasted back then when they needed all they could get.

Cheers Jack, so interesting discovering all of the history of planes like this. I have been aware of the plane for years but not it's story.

Great history lesson, but not so great weather where you flew the old lady. Come down into the sun!

Thank you Gerold, our first wintery day today, wind chill currently 9.8c, love it.

You really know how to find them.  Always been a fan of Douglas - they built some beauts and others not so much.

Cheers OD, you can see the DC-2 pedigree in this one!

Well done Martyn! Now that is one plane that I have never seen in real life.

Cheers Paul and I think I would bet my house that I will never see one of these although there are 5 in  museums.

Martyn, you have quite the hangar collection.  Another stunning set here my friend!

Thank you Sammy, it is getting a bit bloated now with all of this old freeware, maybe time for a cull:ph34r:
