Matthew Kane Posted February 21, 2017 Share Posted February 21, 2017 As far as Aviation Disasters go this one isn't really a big one, but someone made the comment on the radio that due to the safety standards in Australia this one is actually one of the biggest disasters in Victoria. Goes to show the standards of Australian Aviation. I heard several false reports first claiming a helicopter had crashed and then an air ambulance. It was a King Air so I guess some assumptions were made. I have spent a lot of time around Essendon Airport and have shopped where the accident happened many times. One of the landing gear actually ended up on the freeway. I suppose in way it is lucky there weren't more casualties in the DFO or on the freeway. Feels strange mentioning the word lucky when discussing this accident though.
