GEN on the Beeb

Just looking at the BBC News site and came across this small article about the old mines and industry in the Lusatia area in the SE part of GEN.

Did a flight in the area a few weeks ago and here are a few shots of the area.

1.bl1.jpg

The Barwalder See, where Cyril went for a paddle.

2.bl2.jpg

Boxberg power station close to the Nochten Boulder Park. Looks like the park is just above the second cooling tower on the left.

3.bl3.jpg

Tagebau Riechwauld one of the operational Lignite mines in the area.

Great to see the old mine sites being restored into something useful.

Hope you found this interesting.

Very interesting indeed. I see with joy this effort to recover the environment, providing leisure areas for the population.

Great shots from there Martyn.

They have done a great job and flying around GEN I would say there are going to be many similar places there in the future.

Beguiling bunch of shotz. The grey cumuli give the shotz a slightly darker character... probably some rain in the afternoon?

With any luck Erik, they need as much water as they can get to fill those holes in the ground up.

Great shots and geography lesson, Martyn. Many thanks for this (to you and the scenery creators).

Cheers Gerold, I only push the buttons and I too are grateful for the job the developers have done.
