Without a doubt my favourite modern, if you can call something that made it's first flight in 1970 modern, military jet is the F-14.

This is the freeware F-14 Designed by Dino Cattaneo.

1..lh1.jpg

Taking off from EGUL Lakenheath.

2.lh2.jpg

Approaching Brandon but I don't know what these are! Never seen them on my Cessna 152.

Reminds me of this great but scary song.

3.lh3.jpg

Not far from Norwich.

4.lh4.jpg

My first tentative manoeuvre over Taverham.

5.lh5.jpg

Don't know what it all does but we are flying helped by the variable geometry wings adjusting automatically.

6.lh6.jpg

Leaving England at Southwold.

7.lh7.jpg

Could not find the GPS/Nav switch and a search produced nothing so manual flying following the flight route via the GPS.

8.lh8.jpg

In the Alkmaar vicinity Northern Holland.

9.lh9.jpg

Well into the descent.

10.lh10.jpg

Something else I never get in the 152.

11.lh11.jpg

12.lh12.jpg

Back in familiar territory again near Emden crossing the Ems

.

13.lh13.jpg

Banking over Jade Bight ready for landing.

14.lh14.jpg

Not enough power and landed about 50m short but still happy as it was my first attempt with the Tomcat.

15.lh15.jpg

Slows down quite quickly.

16.lh16.jpg

Did not need much runway at all, looks like I should do some circuits some when. It has been a help flying the L-39 too.

17.lh17.jpg

That is it, all parked up safely.

A beautiful plane too, reminds me of Manfred's C-47, astounding freeware jet.

Terrific shots Martyn!  I worked the F-111 which had manual swing wings but have always liked the F-14 because the wing sweep in controlled automatically through the CADC, central air data computer.  So they sweep when they need to depending of the envelope it's in.  Is this plane the same way in the sim?

Thanks Jack, the wings do adjust automatically in the sim. I like to view the replay when taking off or slowing down to land and watch the wings altering their sweep. Fascinating and this really is freeware of the highest order.

That is so cool Martyn!  It works as it should in real flight.  That was a great jet, too bad they got rid of them.  Hope they keep the A-10.  Seems all the good jets are being sent to the boneyard and we get turkeys like the F-35 which is a software nightmare.  Go figure.

They call it progress Jack.

Just the same, as much as I like the old prop liners, I would rather travel to Thailand on a 777 than a DC-6.

Yeah, I agree.  I'd rather the same too.  But if I had the money and owned a DC-6 it would be fun doing it myself.

But a 777 could probably hold two or three of 'em!
