openLC USA developer randoms

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Here's a batch of screenshots from the development team's PCs, nothing fancy at all but it provides a hint at the diversity of textures to be found as you traverse the USA from midwest to the east coast.

See if you can spot the new tech in this build including grass skirting clearly defined around motorways and junctions, city parks with proper boundaries, urban areas as per their real-world counterparts, mixture of arid and fertile lands and much more.

Don't ask me for locations, these were taken from a test flight made last week. We will be showing location-specific screenshots based on your requests fairly soon.

John i have noticed a very distinctive green edge around most of the small rural dams and streams

, it`s impressive and makes the landscape appear fuller, is this because of the increased detail of your sourced data.

Thank you i`m looking forward to the release.

Rick

It's no different that what you already get in our full-fat regions when a lot of polyLC and vector elements already work together for better boundaries and city definitions.

There are skirtings around the lakes, rivers etc, around roads too. Something is different from the other sceneries. I really hope you improve the other sceneries with these new textures (?).

The only two things I noticed, are that Roosevelt Island in your picture of Washington, DC is covered with buildings.  In real life, there's not a building on the island as it is a wildlife sanctuary/park and completely covered with trees. Also, the area around the western end of the mall, particularly around the reflecting pool, should all be park, not buildings.  Other than that, the scenery looks very impressive!

This all looks SWEET and I'm buying soon as it is released! But question, seeing as how Vector data seems embedded in this version of OpenLC, would we still need to run Orbx Vector with OpenLC USA? or is vector now irrelevant??

Also, off topic here, but why do Orbx products not included uninstallers? I have plenty of Orbx and uninstall always has to be a process of messing with files.

I concur with this observation.  I hope the team have time to revisit this area before release.  I just checked my current FSX installation and these areas a correctly depicted using UTX USA product.  I appreciate the hard work to bring this product to market and am looking forward to its release.

Also, just noticed, but the  national lawn (mall) should extend up to the back of the white house as well.  This whole green area known as the national mall is actually a national park.  It has more than double the visitors of Yellowstone and Yosemite national parks combined making it the most visited national park in the world.  For a product that is supposed to include accurate vector data for city parks and stuff, this of all parks should be accurate, as you fly right over it for the world-famous "river visual" into RWY 19 at DCA.  Looking forward to the release as well.

John,   You remind me of a proud father showing off pictures of his latest and with good reason too, they are beautiful.

Congratulations on assembling the finest team of scenery designers/artist in the world and thank you for sharing their work with us at such a reasonable price

The way towns actually blend now looks great, as opposed to the normal gray splatter.

Having lived in DC, your vector data shown in that shot of the Potomac is incredibly accurate.

Agree completely - DC looks stunning.  Actually they all do... but DC I can vouch for.

Somebody's gotta raze the buildings on Theodore Roosevelt Island, though... it's a nature preserve.

Microscopically minor point, though - this is a breakthrough for us Easterners.  Can't wait!

Also concur.  The land around the Pentagon should be parking, not housing.  Great looking scenery.  Thank you.

The 2nd to last picture is particularly realistic to me.  Looks like it's taken over the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip, IL (A SW suburb of Chicago) facing east towards Gary, IN. If you compare with Google Earth, you can get an idea of just how accurate this is!

Hi Folks,

Pix look great...

So I know what a land-class is - but - how would this package behave with Global FTX ? Obviously there the new textures in this package as well - do they just overwrite the global textures ? I also have UTX2 - will it play nicely with that package as well ?

Thanks...

Regards,

Scott
