Calling all FSX "misfit" (non-fitting) airports

Here are a few more I found:

Hi Neil!

CD82 - Val Air, Colorado

Screenshot posted here in Vector forum: http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/115460-cd82-val-air-water-on-runway/

Google maps shows the real airport was on the east side of Hwy 550, while P3D has placed it on the west side.

soardurango.com says the field is now permanently closed, deactivated 12/21/15.

Just uploaded and 'flew' North Rockies region and the runways at Coeur d'Alene are half 'buried' when seen at ground level, although they appear OK from above...until you are on final. Then they partially disappear.

Dunno if this is the kind of thing you want. Did not get the airport ID, sorry.

Hi Archive82,

Coeur d'Alene's main airport is KCOE, I assume that's the one you're talking about and I checked it out and see no issues with the runways.  It does have an elevation adjustment (ADE_FTX_NRM_KCOE_elevation_adjustment) so you might want to check Scenery/World/Scenery to see it's active (not .off) when NRM is active.  If that looks OK there may be some other scenery that is interfering.   It would not be considered a "misfit".

Cheers, Neil

KFRG - Farmingdale/Republic.  In reality New Highway runs south from Conklin Av parallel to RWY 1-19, then turns SE to parallel RWY 14-32.  The new Vector has the northern section cut across the GA ramp east of RWY 1-19 and on the west side of the ramp past the American Airpower Museum area.  It goes right through a building.  I've temporarily solved the problem by turning of traffic on secondary roads; it was disturbing to have cars and trucks whizzing by just behind my plane.

Thanks

Ken

Thanks very much, Neil.

I should have mentioned we're talking about the east side of the airport, between the airport and the cemeteries.

Although such a massive project as the ORBX sceneries, at all levels, is bound to have a couple of "bugs", this is a wonderful advance, and I'm enjoying it greatly.

Thanks again,

Ken

Bring 'em on guys.  These take very little time to do, at least the simple ones, so I'll spend today working them if you keep finding them.  I (generally) can place them correctly but I can't fix the land added to make the old ones work.  Here's MYXB, even added a few houses.

Cheers, Neil

Thanks Neil,

Looking great, especially the airport backgrounds fit much better the new OLC.

Great to add a few houses. I'm checking the Bahamas right now. The area is full of those very small settlements not big enough to call them villages so a few houses at least around the airports is a real plus.

I have two more. That's all for today, getting late here.

J.F. Mitchell (TVSB) in water
E T Joshua (TVSV) partially in water

All you've given me so far have been fixed, I like MYAW best, see screenshot.  I have no idea who would fly there but at least it looks correct now.

Well done Neil. I guess those islands belong to some millionaires. There is just room for the airport and their luxurious villa. ;)

That's pretty much the truth Sylvain.  I file, activate/close, and give weather briefings for pilots going to these little islands all day at work.  I believe Walkers Cay(MYAW) is a luxury fishing resort.  The number of charter companies flying between the eastern coast of Florida and the Bahamas have sky-rocketed over the past several years.

Looks Great Neil!

Hi Neil,

KNVI "Pace NOLF" has two ponds on it.

NOLF Pace is a USN helicopter training field and the default P3D dirt runway isn't really there either.  It is actually just a large grass field with some painted white lines and diamond shaped, white gravel, landing spots.

Hi Neil

I just saw your post that I missed ! What a great idea and nice proposition, many thanks  !

Here is my sorry crop of today :

- Two in the Virgin islands :  "Virgin Gorda" TUPW, road crossing the runway and  "King" TIST,  water submerging the apron in some places and the threshold.

- One in the NL Antilles "Roosevelt" TNCE St Eustachius, road on the runway.

- And the FR island of St Bartelemy TFFJ, road on tarmac and buildings in the water in the other side of the tiny island.

A pity because OLC NA and good mesh make the Antilles shine :)

Hi Dominique,

Put your airports on my list, I'll get to them when I can.  I just send Bernd the last group but these should make the next SP also.

@JPL19, that issue at 15NK  will take some thinking, I tried a couple of things but so far nothing works.

Cheers, Neil

Thank you for taking this on, Neil!  I'm late to the game here, but since OpenLC NA was released with the Caribbean included, I've been eager to do some island hopping in anticipation of my wife's and my upcoming cruise (25th anniversary) around the rim of the Caribbean...  I've been surprised to find so many of the first islands I'm encountering to have their airports sort of 'afloat at sea' along side the islands they serve. ;)  (MYGW, MYAW, MYXZ)

At least some of the ones I've encountered today have been addressed above.  Thanks!  That's so good to know!

One more thing I was just struck by as I landed at Spanish Cay (MYAX): in addition to its being one of those 'floating airports', the flora seen from the airport looks worthy of one of the San Juan islands, with all these tall evergreens.... <grin>  I'm a bit surprised that the Caribbean islands aren't sporting trees more suited to their tropical environment...  Do you happen to know if that is a planned adjustment in the near future??

Neil,

If you have gone to the trouble of repositioning these island airports in the Bahamas, I would seem as though very little effort would be required to convert them into proper FTX Global freeware airports.  Most have few buildings/objects to remove/place anyway and it literally just a few minutes to do -- again, given that they are located correctly.  I think a lot of people would really enjoy having these.

Hi Ripcord,

Duly noted.  The number of the airports that need tweaking poses the problem in that I'm limited in the number of freeware airports I can do per quarter, but these fixes can be done quickly (well relatively) and added in Vector updates as "Fixed APT" files with no limit to how many.  That way, while not up to the "freeware quality standards and ORBX objects", I can fix glaring issues quickly and reasonably.  I correct the airport layouts, backgrounds and placement of default objects, etc, just no detail work or custom objects.

Cheers, Neil

Hi Neil,

Just discovered another one - rather minor really.  At Eire Intl (KERI) the highway takes a shortcut across the GA Ramp at the west end of the field (at the end of taxiway D).
