  1. I made a jokey comment to Pete @renault about his comment re helicopters in a recent post and it reminded me of this little experiment. I was playing with this thing for days. Managed to get reasonably comfortable getting off the ground and moving cautiously around, so thought I'd get a bit adventurous. Started out in downtown LA. Or, to be more precise, somewhere above downtown LA . . . Now, you'd think that managing to do all that so far (I was in the air under pretty much full control for about six minutes at this point), and having managed to get down to rooftop level (and at a fairly modest speed, 20 or so), that I'd be able to land ok. But alas, I haven't mastered that aspect yet! But like the T-shirt says "Gaming has destroyed my life. Lucky I've got three left". I believe the real thing this is based on is only expected to be taken up to maybe 30 feet, and has only done flights of a few hundred yards, so at least I've improved on that!
  2. Some days ago, I asked @renault if he opted for SD or HD TE sceneries. He told me that he went HD all the way. I was still using SD versions basically because of my lack of disk space, and also because SD sceneries loaded faster and showed better FPS. Now we have XP11.50 with Vulkan, which makes things work in a very different way. So I bought a new external SSD and decided to give HD sceneries another try. I am extremely happy to report that Orbx HD regions are now running on my PC around 40-60 FPS, without any stutters. The quality and the details of these HD sceneries are totally jaw dropping. It makes all the experience of virtual flying much more immersive. These are my first shots of TE South Cal HD:

  6. You need to fix the Coronado bridge in TE SOCAl. Here are pictures of the one in your product and the real one. This bridge is as iconic to Socal as the Bay bridge is to Norcal and you have badly mangled both. Having reported the Bay Bridge bug 6 months ago, without seeing a fix yet, I am not hopeful about this bridge being improved any time soon (but would love to be proven wrong).
