  1. I recently purchased the Reno Air Races base pack expansion purely for the aircraft models, so that I could get myself the T-6 Texan (aka Harvard in the Commonwealth) and start downloading the 3rd party repaints that have been popping up on flightsim.to. This morning I took an ex Royal Canadian Air Force example on a morning sortie along the Sussex coastline, from Orbx's beautiful Shoreham (EGKA) overhead the new photogrammetry areas of Brighton and Eastbourne that came with World Update 7, then back inland along the South Downs to the River Adur, which leads back to the airfield. Enjoy the shots, there’s quite a few of them!
  2. Undeterred I ventured out again & remembered something from flying the Spitfire - take off with no flap! The C430 flaps are a pair of French stable doors worked into the wing. Massive. So a ton of drag is provided. I departed with zero flap & successfully lifted off. I don't think the engine is overly hot rodded so the take off run was reasonably lengthy, but I cleared the fence at Shoreham & did a circuit & landed. TTM (MSFS) Up & away! The rail bridge. Do Orbx trains traverse this?? A room with a view. I was rather hoping the expanse behind the dashboard wasn't a fuel tank, in case of an 'arrival'! Someone needs to cut the grass! Sat here for a couple of minutes looking for the phone number of a dry cleaner & did observe many vehicle movements on the aprons, including the infamous fork lift, looking for something to impale!
  3. Greetings! I purchased the GB South scenery (Transaction ID: 5ff0d1726b2e0) a few weeks ago. Shoreham airport (EGKA) is almost impossible to use as the undulations are exaggerated. There are no other EGKA airports in the sim. Attached please find my scenery_packs.ini for your perusal. Cheers Richard scenery_packs .ini
  4. X Plane. Keeping it straight! Using replay editor to show errors. EC135v5. Wonky's Blog 117 A really short video on my attempts to improve my landings using the replay editor. After you land hit shift R and then shift 2 not shift F2 as I said in the Video!. You can then position yourself using the arrow keys and the W key in front of your helicopter. Then use the backward keys on the replay editor to rewind the replay backwards, then press play and see how you do. I know this is all pretty basic stuff but some new pilots might not know how useful this is especial when making videos.
  5. X-Plane VSKYLABS 'Test-Pilot': FA Tensor 600X. Wonky's Blog! 106. First Flight fun and Games. My first flights with this great VSKYLABS FA Tensor 600x high definition autogyro. I will do a VR version next week. But here are some highlights from my first flights around my usual test ground at Shoreham. I did seem to get a lot of smoke/Dirt/Dust from the touch and go on the runway that persisted for a while but I think that might be my graphics card. I only had about 10 mins in VR and was just too tired last night. Highly recommended and a real blast in VR.
  6. Flat-screen 4k VSKYLABS Dynali H3 Project inc. Trip Round British Airways i360. Wonky's Blog! 99. First VR flight with the Dynali H3 from Vskylabs, on special offer at $16.99, just a fantastic small fun helicopter with amazing textures. This trip is from Just outside Shoreham up to the pier and the Royal Pavilion, also known as the Brighton Pavilion. Then a flight around the i360 tower on Brighton beach then landing at the Hilton Hotel. Orbx Scenery and X Plane 11.50b6. Recorded originally in VR and then made a video of replay. VR version can be found on Wonky's blog! 98. Maxed out except for reflection and antialiasing one notch up. Still have some problems on outside shots with a fuzziness now and again.
  7. New Hughes 500D Wonky's Blog! 93. Showing monitor, Vulcan settings. But now video capture problems. So here are the settings I am using under Vulcan on my flat screen set-up. It's the smoothest its ever been and I also have for the first time clouds and reflections turned on with full texture quality. Screenshot at start and end of the video. During the flight, it's the best visuals I have seen at my local Shoreham. That's not to say the same settings would work in London! What surprised me is the video capture using G Force was for the first time not keeping up. It has a number of stutters and some blurriness. I have never seen before? It could be that the card can't cope as it used to with recording and all the data now being thrown at it. so I might have to look at lower settings for video. It's a shame as it did really look good. I have an I7 at overclocked at 4.9 and a 1080 graphics card. More investigation needed. It's worth a look as at times it looks so good, and then a stutter and a blurriness for a short time. So we have an updated Hughes 500D 11.41.5. you can get it here. https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/52938-hughes-500d/ As ever she is great to fly and I hope we will continue to see upgrades in the future.
  8. 222UT from Joshua Cowan. John Brays X-Plane 11 version of the Gazelle. Wonky's Blog! 93. Well, what a week! So much great stuff going on and even being isolated I can't keep up. I want to play with it all. You will be pleased to hear no voice commentary again this week as the old throat has been playing up. Just as I put this together I have just seen an update on the MD500! pop up. So it's just a short video of my first flights with the two Helicopters. No landing for the Gazelle as I managed to crash it coming into the pad. So I finished it with a nice closeup. But even without my voice, you do have the great soundtrack of two great Helicopters. We have the first release of the 222UT from Joshua cowan and it looks and flies beautifully. The HeliSimmer paint scheme by David Erard for the Bell 222UT is just beautiful but wasn't out when I made the video, but do have a look and download. We also have the John Brays X-Plane 11 version of the Gazelle, John is working on other projects but has released the work so that others can add or finish the project. "In an effort to reduce the number of requests for an updated version of the X-Plane 11 version of the Gazelle I have, released an updated version of the X-Plane 11 version of the Gazelle. It contains all the features available at this moment in time". Thanks to John perhaps it will be picked up and completed. We then also have a great utility included in the great Nimmbus Simulations UH-1 as standard, a joystick axis viewer created by Joe Kipfer Adrien Filliol. This is the Helicopter Edition of AxisViewer for viewing the cyclic, collective, and anti-torque pedal position. I think this will be particularly cool for those of you who make videos, or those of you who are instructing/learning. It's very DCS-ish in that way. Tested working well in Non-VR, VR, and Vulkan. All links in YouTube blurb. What a week for X-Plane, even the updates work for me. Stay safe.
  9. We just need to stick to this home isolation, it will save lives. And the time will fly by. Yes, I did cheat and fly through the building " Good Old Orbx!" And then stopped the replay. JUST AT THE RIGHT TIME!
  10. X Plane, The AS350 B3+. Wonky's Blog! 92 So after much debate, I took the plunge and downloaded The AS350 B3+, It is packed with advanced features including the new 'Arcade Mode' that will allow anyone to fly this helicopter with great ease. Well, some of you might have seen my post in the week. I was tempted because the Swiss creation team did a really good job on AS350 B3+, like the AB4212. What I never expected from dream foil was a dark and dismal display from inside and a virtually unusable helicopter with my standard settings. As you will see in the video I ended up with rates set at 70% and it is still very unstable. After a recommendation, I tried advanced physics on and off and played with the number of frames. Tried it with Vulkan and 11.41. I am getting better. And I did use arcade mode at the start out of frustration. I would love to know from others, is it me. I love everything about the outside, especially with the swiss mod. But surely no helicopter is this difficult to fly. In real life, I did get to hover one of these many years ago when a member of my RC helicopter club used to give me lessons at our flying field near Box Hill and from memory, it was better in the hover than the R22 and the Enstrom 280FX Shark that another member-owned. I had lessons in all three. So why is it so touchy and so variable. compared to the Bell 407. What a disappointment. The pitch angle looks like it on a knife-edge when you fly. I even put spring back in my X52 and ended up with rates at 70% as you will see in the video. If anyone has any updates or could let me know about I would be very grateful. Out of 15 or so X-Plane helicopter's, it's the most difficult and I don't see why. Used spit screen move just to show the best flight so far, jumped around a bit on the top Flight as it was meant to be single screen video at the start. I think its Sinesio Brito who has been using spit mode so sorry if it was you for stealing your idea! my most Succesful flight so far. Rubish landing but I can get some sense of achievement on making it back. I flew the EC135 v4 straight after and what a joy! Standards X52 joystick wth springs on as without them it was even harder the first time that has been the case. More practice, More work needed or I need an update to a more realistic flight model. And that inside is so bad. I thought people must have done upgrades over the years but nothing I can find so far. I want a glass G1000 or GTN750 or better. I really thought this was a popular Helicopter that had loads of things done for it. I should have looked more closely. just one other thing the sound isn't great. nothing like the Bell 407 that sound so realistic. So you might have gathered not overly impressed. Not one other helicopter in my library behaves like this. Some might say it's the only one that behaves close to a real one but i would disagree. The nearest I think in hovering terms is the MD500. But happy to be corrected as it's been twenty years since had lessons. and if you have any recommendations for updates please let me know. My first disappointment in X-Plane that I wash I could get my money back.
  11. X Plane, Back in The Cicaro 8 after man flu! Wonky's blog 77 Trying the Oculus mirror again. Been laid up with man flu this week that has some strange affects on my dystonia condition and laid me out flat for a few days so wonky's blog is a bit late and is just a VR fly around in the Cicaro 8. A bit of slow low level flight around the Shoremam area. Really do like this helicopter and its had a few updates this week, if you put your mouse over some of the dials you can change them and also some new paint jobs. The Oculus mirror wasnt to bad but it still reminds me more of a head tracker rather that a a real VR experience, I do like the long view so you can see your feet and the foot well. So just a bit of gun flying around and didn't manage to sneeze once during the video. And we all know how bad man flu is!
  12. X Plane VSKYLABS Test-Pilot Cicare-8 Wonky's Blog 76. First look at the VSKYLABS Cicare 8. Its 4k so might take some time to process. My first flights and look at the Cicare 8. Outside flying views around the twenty minute mark. It's everything I had hoped it would be. Long video but the details are outstanding. If you have been thinking about it just buy it! This project is part of the VSKYLABS 'Test-Pilot' series, designed specifically for use with X-Plane 11.40+ cutting edge Experimental Flight Model (should be enabled in X-Plane's General Setting menu). The VSKYLABS development of the Cicare-8 project for X-Plane flight simulator was approved by Cicaré S.A. However, it is an independent VSKYLABS project which is not related, affiliated and/or endorsed with Cicaré S.A. Wonky Joystick Productions A voice Made For silent Movies Videos For fun
  13. XPlane VR Cyclic Control, Rubber Bands, Toilet Roll. Getting it all lined up in VR. Wonky's Blog! 74. After the blast of the opening credits you will have to turn the sound up. Watch out for volume increase at the end, It might give you a heart attack. Probably my most embarrassing video to date!. First part shows the development of my VR Cyclic Controller and in true "Blue Peter" fashion, Rubber bands , plumbers fittings and a toilet roll. For those not in the UK ,Blue Peter was a children's program famous for making toys using things found in the kitchen. I had to make the first part of this video with a webcam, sorry for the sound quality. Part two starting at 8 Mins 50 seconds is how to align the controller in VR and make everything appear in the right place inside your VR experience ie. joystick and VR controller linked and moving the cyclic as if you are inside with everything lined up. If you know a easy way to do this let me know in the comments. I had a few problems with a Oculus download so had to repeat a few bits in this section. This part also shows how good the VR cyclic is over my standard X52 for hovering and precise flight as proven by using Joe Kipfer's hover test program. You can find in the info settings on you tube. I think the experiment has proven its worth proceeding with the VR cyclic minus the toilet roll. But, I will have to think about extending my X52 Joystick to the same 20" extension for my main controller system. It's been great fun testing and trying to come up with ideas without access to a workshop. I always mention my shaky hand and head to promote the dystonia condition and information can be found in the info. Thanks for taking the time to read and watch the video. Things I am sorry about! Sound quality on the webcam at the start. Didn't know the Rift S picked up breathing so well. Still moving my head left and right all the time. Duplicating some of the wording on the second part as I had a Oculus update that crashed my system when filming. Watch out for volume increase at the end, might give you a heart attack. 14. Last 10 miles home to Shoreham low level flight. MD 500 Full Pack. Using the GTN750 to give me the basic rout home . Chase the police car and then last half you can hear the new sounds much better. Video sound is realy dead compared to home speakers.Blade slap starts at 3mins 30 when I just push a bit Harder. Lets not mention the landing approach or the flying through cars and and trees. All the graphs on the left is me trying to get my PC temp down and this was one of the tests. If you like that sort of thing New MSI and Riva tuner let you do a on screen overlay. Once I have everything smooth the it can come off as i do see a small frame hit. Again thanks to everyone that has made this helicopter a reality. Dave
  15. VR flight in the NIMBUS SIMULATIONS HUEY FOR X-PLANE, Wonk's Blog 67. With luck it should have processed in 4K by now! I have just finished my first VR flight in the NIMBUS SIMULATIONS HUEY FOR X-PLANE. It was pure joy. I know its a smaller screen but this is a 4k video, I think in VR we need to see more up and down. We waited a long time for this and it looks and flies like a dream. It's a shame my voice over cant let the full sound come through. I have posted a flat screen version of a flight with no voice over at the usual helicopter simulation sites so you can hear what it sounds like Wonky's Blog! 66. This is the start off Low Level Heaven for me. Comparisons to DCS, I would just say the interior is softer, more used looking but in a good way. Flight dynamics just feel right. I am not a real world pilot but I would hope this is what it would have been like, minus the fear, smell, smoke, bullets, and vibration.
  16. X Plane. GTN750 in The MD500 Enhancement Mod. It's like a Teslar Car. Wonky Blog! 64. Before I start if you love this Helicopter have a look at Nick Bates video, link on you tube description. Well I could not resist it any longer, Boys and Toys as they say. I finally purchased the GTN750 unit once I had seen the upgrade that Fergus Moloney had done to put the Avitab in and then he did the GTN750. link on you tube description when I mention that I had a disastrous purchase of the GTN 750 it was because I purchased the incorrect version ie Flight simulator x, /But got a refund straight away after sending a email. well done reality XP. I could not resists. But please note that it will not control your MD 500 but has so many great features I had to give it a go. Luckily Helisimer.com have put together a page that shows all the mods in on one page and You can find also in my link on you tube description So back to the video. Yes Mr stupid came to call and decided to use the pop out window in VR to make the display even bigger! This is not for the purist I will have two versions of the MD. One for the " lets get it as close as we can" and the other for When Mr stupid/fun wants to play. You have the choice. Being British I never read the manual but I had seen videos. I managed to get one flight in with the Dreamfoil Bell and managed to get it to fly from Shoreham to Gatwick Airport and was so confident I left it to run and went for dinner on my return it had crashed! But when I looked at my moving maps program it had gone to Gatwick and circled until it ran out of fuel and crashed, Obviously spent to much time eating my Lunch. This unit can also be installed in Toms Bell 429 and that's my next job link on you tube description. As usual I Babble on about things I do not know about. We have some low flying at 11 mins and 13mins and Gatwick at 19mins. I also have quite a lot of stutter both on the computer and myself on this episode. So sorry for that and the shaky hands were not to bad this week. AS usual for more information about the condition I suffer from have a look at the dystonia link to make more people aware my condition as it can often be confused with Parkinson's.

  20. X Plane VR Flight 40 FPS ish. with Avitab. OVR and the AB412. Wonkys Blog! 62. And so this will be the last one I do on FPS for a while as it is such a movable feast and every one has to find your own sweet spot. I was more than happy with everything turned right up and x plane showing 22.5 FPS at Shoreham. but if you follow all the groups they say it has to be 45FPS. So in this video I go for the 40+ FPS i turn antialazing right down but turn up super sampling to 1.5 to sharpen up everything. Also running Avitab map mode and OVR. The video does not do justice to how good it looks. I also had a problem on the upload that makes the sound squeak now and again. I have no idea on that one. I have kept it in the single long view as that gives the best resolution the original was captured in G Force Capture in 4 k mode so that it could be blown up if required to fill the screen but this is what it looks like in the headset. Sorry as usual for the constant looking left and right but when I fly that what I do as I am generally quite low. Engine off auto at the end just about made it. Please also remember the condition I suffer from and have a look at the dystonia website as one day you might see the tell tale signs in yourself or members of your family. It's often confused with Parkinson's but is not the end of the world please have a look and make people more aware of the condition.
  21. Auto In Blue! MD 500 engine off full auto at Shoreham. Playseat support not done up and comes off just going into the Auto. Joystick on my lap and still got away with it. 22. X Plane.VR Recording with G Force Card. MD 500. How to use OBS to output VR recordings. Wonky's Blog! 58. Also, apologies to JOE HUDSON as I didn't give him the credit for the paint job! and said it was Brett. I can only say I am a babbling fool and should get my facts right. First let me say have a look at the MD500 review by Joe Hudson on the Helisimmer page link below: The original work by BRETTS HUGHES, has been updated to the New Hughes 500D that also included work by Alex Gifford, Ben Russell and an updated version of the SASL conversion by OzWookiee . From the information in the review, it helped me work out the best settings I have found for flying the MD500 as shown in this video. Also, I should mention that we should all be ticking the send data to Laminar box also shown in the video. They need to know that we are flying in VR and also Helicopters are on the increase due to the VR experience. Finally a way of recording VR flight with a G Force card and use OBS to make it the screen size that you want. sorry for the really croaky voice this week and my dog barking in the background. 24. Sorry to trouble you. Two problems: Te first is an observation, I use Immersive Display Pro. as I have 3 projectors and a curved screen. To begin with I could not make sense of ftx Central. The displayed page looks very odd, the mouse pointer dissapears but can be found by using control button which causes a shrinking circle to appear where the mouse pointer is centered. Then I discovered switching Immerisve display Pro. off during the times I was down loading scenery sorted the problem out. So an observation to anyone else having issues with the appearance of ftx Central down load page. Secondly I do have a problem with scenery, I though it might be that the scenery libraries were out of date but ftx central tells me they are up to date. But when I try and run X-Plane with my new purchases installed by ftx Central, X-Plane crashes (see attached log file) It says there are files missing from the scenery. How do I resolve this and get the new scenery I bought to work?? I am sure it is easy to resolve when you know what you are doing :-) BR Pete D. Log.txt
