  1. Flying over Cityscape Sydney with MSFS 2020
  2. Orbx is proud to return to our roots with our very first Australian product for Microsoft Flight Simulator - Cityscape Sydney! We know that many of you have been keenly awaiting news of our first homegrown project for the new sim, and as such we have to kick things off in style. Over nine months in development, Cityscape Sydney is an enormous project that pushes the boundaries of what is possible with the current MSFS SDK. Acclaimed developer Frank Schnibben (Cityscape Honolulu, Melbourne Cityscape for AUv2) has brought to life Australia's largest city with his debut MSFS scenery with the assistance of our in-house team. A complete cityscape, the scenery captures the feel and energy of the harbourside capital, with thousands of details and features across the entire metropolitan area. Over 100 custom points of interest have been faithfully recreated, including the city's tallest skyscrapers, well-known icons, sports stadiums and bridges. Whilst most of these have been created with a high level of detail that prioritises high optimization and unique PBR texturework, we have created a few ultra-high-detail "hero assets" - models that rival airport terminals in terms of detail - perfect for exploring right up close. You can see this in action with our incredibly detailed Sydney Harbour Bridge - the centrepiece of this scenery. Custom aerial imagery replaces the default Bing ortho for the inner suburbs, airport and CBD of Sydney. We made the decision to use our own ortho as it is a vast improvement over the default; fidelity, colour quality, source resolution and tonality, as well as Frank's hand-editing bring this feature to life. Additionally, water colour and detailing is greatly improved; the world-famous beaches of Bondi and Coogee look far more realistic and vibrant. Watermasks in the central parts of the scenery have been totally replaced, more accurately depicting coastlines. Frank has also totally replaced over 28,000 primary buildings with his own custom-designed models in complete 4k PBR. This vastly improves the type, footprint height and roof types of the most standout towers, residential blocks and commercial buildings not covered as points of interest. These improvements extend far beyond the primary coverage zone - major suburban centers such as Parramatta, Chatswood and dozens more have been replaced. Lastly, Port Botany next to Sydney Airport has seen a major overhaul, with detailing and improvements to this landmark that is visible on all flights into and out of the airport. AT A GLANCE Our first Australian scenery for MSFS An entire Cityscape covering the City of Sydney Airport terminal-quality Hero Assets such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge 103 Custom PBR landmarks across the Sydney metro area 28,000 replacement buildings with corrected heights, footprints and building types 250km2 of pristine custom aerial imagery - perfectly colour balanced and hand-edited Thousands of placed objects to bring the Harbour City to life Stunning night lighting Replacement watermasking for more accurate coastlines Improved tree heights in select locations Improved suburban centres and POIs beyond the primary coverage zone Port Botany recreated From acclaimed developer Frank Schnibben, with assistance from our in-house team As the first of several major Australian projects currently under development, we look forward to sharing more information and shots of Cityscape Sydney over the coming weeks - be sure to keep an eye out on our previews forum and social media for more information. Enjoy!
  3. Welcome to paradise! We are enormously excited to announce Cityscape Honolulu, a comprehensive city and mini-region for Prepar3Dv4. Developed by Frank Schnibben and Holger Sandmann (who you will most recently know from the incredibly popular Australia V2), Honolulu uses ground-breaking techniques to blend photoreal and landclass components to give one of the most detailed scenery packages ever brought to P3D. Covering the entire Hawaiian island of Oahu, Cityscape Honolulu brings to life this stunning tropical location with impeccable quality. From the postcard locations of Diamond Head and Waikiki, to history-laden Pearl Harbor and Ford Island; from bustling Downtown to suburban Pearl City, the entire Honolulu metro area is modeled in unparalleled custom detail. Beyond the city, explore the rugged Ko'olau Range, the laid-back towns of the North Shore, picture-perfect Kaneohe Bay and the beautiful beaches at Kailua and Waimanalo. Of course whilst there is plenty to explore within the scenery, Honolulu is located a short (island) hop from the rest of the Hawaiian chain; and for those of you who prefer your flying more medium-haul, be sure to test your transoceanic navigation skills to American Samoa and the US West Coast. Far more than a regular Cityscape, Honolulu includes a host of details and features. 20,000 unique custom buildings, hand-placed vegetation, 60+ high-detail POI (with complete PBR), road traffic, bridges, night lighting hand-coloured photoreal are just the start. The 3D buildings are created in a totally different method to our CityScene line; Frank's method combines correct footprint, height data and unique textures with highly-optimized modelling to ensure the best balance between performance, detail and immersion. Beyond the metro area, an entire mini-region has been created, with high-detail mesh, custom landclass types, totally overhauled road/rail, coastline, waterbody, waterclass, vertical obstructions, powerlines and more. All eight airfields on the island (five active, three decommissioned) have been greatly improved over the default, and create the perfect bases for you to explore the stunning terrain. FEATURE LIST A complete Cityscape and Mini-Region covering Honolulu and the entire island of Oahu Ultra-HD photorealistic depiction of Honolulu, Waikiki, Pearl Harbor and Pearl City All eight Oahu airports have been upgraded from default to "region standard" - much like you see in AUv2, GES/GEN, etc. Mixture of photoreal and custom landclass textures for best balance between realism, performance and download/disk usage. High-quality mesh, based on high-resolution LIDAR, including underwater bathymetry Complete replacement of all geodata for Oahu for a much more detailed and accurate landscape; shorelines, lakes, road/rail, traffic etc. 23,000 unique custom buildings with exact footprint and height data, combined with 90,000 custom-placed agn buildings Over 60 high-detail POIs, most with complete PBR texturing Detailed depiction of Pearl Harbor with all museums and relevant historical sites Visit the USS Missouri, USS Bowfin and USS Arizona Memorial Numerous helipad locations, including on custom US Navy ships in harbor. Exceptionally detailed hand-placed vegetation using local flora types All vertical obstructions on the island; wind turbines, antennae, power grid towers, chimneys etc Stunning night lighting, including dynamic and 3D lighting for best visuals and performance Exhaustively optimized for best performance using unique modelling and texturing techniques. >1500 sq km of stunning tropical terrain Created by powerhouse developers Frank Schnibben and Holger Sandmann, with additional help from Chris Clack and Gaya Simulations COVERAGE MAPS COMPATIBILITY Cityscape Honolulu is a stand-alone product for Prepar3Dv4; you do not require any other Orbx product aside from our free Orbx Libraries. We can confirm that the package will be compatible with FSDT Honolulu Intl Airport and Bill Womack's Dillingham X. Specific instructions on how to ensure compatibility with these airports will be given closer to release. More information on pricing and distribution will be available closer to release, alongside a plethora of new screenshots. The team are extremely excited about this product, and whilst we work on putting the final touches to the scenery, we trust that you will enjoy this small taste of what is to come! Enjoy!
  4. I am really impressed with Sydney cityscape scenery. Pure beauty + excellent FPS. Someone pull my jaw up please! Congratulations @Frank Schnibben and Orbx developers from the team for this masterpiece.
  5. Let me take you on a summary of some city tours, with an easy-to-fly-low&slow plane out of El Prat. In the middle of this picture we have the Sants Estacio (station), where I once stayed in a fancy hotel. Just a short walk from there to La feria and the Museo Nacional, ... ... from where you can easily climb up to the Areal Olimpic. A bit further down the road you can get a great view from the Montjuic over the city, ... ... and take the Teleferic, a cable car over the harbour, surveying the Rambla del Mar. It ends near the beautiful triangle of Barceloneta, ... ... from where you may walk up the Ramblas to the Plaza Cataluna. So many touristic hotspots here, just like Antonio Gaudi´s Sagrada Familia... ... and his Parc Guell. A slight detour with the Maule brings us up to the suburb of St. Cugat. You can see the sports pitches down there? St. Cugat Hockey Club, we have played there some years ago. But in order to land we return to the airport over the industrial harbour... ... and - as always with small planes - fly slightly higher than the glide path, in order to avoid the wakes of preceding jetliners. Hey, what´s that?

  7. So, about a year ago in early 2017 I took a screenshot of the San Diego skyline at night (as viewed from Coronado island) in P3Dv3.4 with SCA (no KSAN yet) and the buildings were gorgeous (very close to RW even -- see 1st pic below). Now, a year later, with P3Dv4.x, the buildings are not as dramatically lit as they were previously (see second pic, below). I've tried numerous various different settings in P3D and FTX Central (and even different times of the evening and days of the week), but have been unsuccessful in getting the beautiful lighting back. What gives?
  8. Arriving from a roundtour in a vintage DC2 at Australia's Capital Canberra. Overfly for a visual exploration and finally land at its airport YSCB:
  9. Choppers enjoy great scenery! Canberra cityscape is a gift for those birds!
