SQ326 from Singapore to Frankfurt, departure time is 13:55 h. We can see all the good food & lovely drinks being loaded... Takeoff with approx. 90 tons (200 tlbs) of fuel takes significantly longer then on these short hops. A last view towards Singapore... ... and Changi airport, currently being expanded on another artificial landmass. Climbing out over Malaysia, ... ... next to Malacca city. 4 hours later we make landfall in India, near Bubaneshwar. The economy class passenger can only hope for a good inflight entertainment. And for the free drinks on board of this airline. Chenab river in Pakistan, ready to merge with the Indus. The Panjab plains are behind uns, now we face the Balochistan ridges. The borders of the balouchistan province were made by the british colonial gouvernment in the 19th century under ignorance of the ethnical groups present. Which is still the reason for military conflicts. Afghanistan. Facing the same trouble: Historical home to the Pashtuns, Tajiks, Hazaras and Uzbeks it was turned in the 19th century into a buffer state in the "Great Game" between British India and the Russian Empire. As we all know the artificial borderlines between have not led to peace since then. We are peacefully heading into the night over Azerbaijan... ... and Georgia. On base, ... ... final, ... ... and here we are. On time. Parked at the B gates, as usual for Singapore Airlines. Hope you had a nice flight.
  2. Seems I choose the appropriate airline for starting in Guangzhou, UT live did the same. Climbing out we have a great view of "Canton" city... I thought this would be a vector error at the delta of Zhujiang river. But it is correct: GE shows it as well. If the water might be sweet enough for watering the fields? 20 minutes after start we pass VHHH Chek Lap Kok. Could be a destination, but not for us... Macau is not either. Instead we turn back on STAR TAMT13 towards Hongkong (old) Kai Tak ... ... over Lamma Island, ... ... heading to Kowloon. What´s on TV today? With the big screens of the present it must be much easier than in the last decade to watch TV from the plane. You probably all know why this is called "Checkerboard approach". I had to do it all manually, as the navigation database of the 787 does not know the ILS / IGS frequencies of Kai Tak. Slightly offset, but survived!
  3. Getting ready in Delhi in typical Indian weather... ... and with the typical traffic jam. This airport has only single runways, so it is way to small for all the traffic (like their roads). The ganges and some artificial lakes near Dhanbad. Kolkata. As big as LA, and as flat. Leaving the coast of Bangladesh... ... and landfall at Myanmar. Irrawaddy river - its banks are full of pagodas. Bangkok, hidden under the curtain. Into Singapore we got the STAR ARAM1A, for the 02L. Watching the golfers... ... just before a soft touchdown. OK, get ready for nightlife!
  4. Getting ready in Hong Kong Kai Tak - from the choice of the airline you may start to guess where we are flying today. Here we climb out along the rivers near Guangzhou. Some hours later the Sichuan mountains come into view, ... ... as we cross the city of Chengdu. The worlds main reservations of the Great Panda are in the forests and mountains around, so it is no surprise they sell lots of related stuff at the airport. Commonly unknown, but over 20000 ft high: Rongme Ngatra https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rongme_Ngatra No good area for travelling - not today and not in the past. Mt. Taxilanlung. Again unknown to me, and over 20.000 ft. Dagze and Lhasa in the valley next to Lhasa He river. Unfortunately with not much detail. The number of inhabitants of Lhasa was increased from about 20.000 in 1959 to approx. 500.000 today. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lhasa_(prefecture-level_city) The Himalaya ahead. This is Kangchenjunga, the 3rd highest peak of the globe with 28.169 ft. Kangchenjunga was first climbed on 25 May 1955 by Joe Brown and George Band, who were part of a British expedition. They stopped short of the summit in accordance with the promise given to the Chogyal that the top of the mountain would remain intact. Everest. Not an official airway, I had to leave B345 and make a direct shortcut from RKZ to KIMTI. This resulted in a beautiful Everst crossing. Aerosoft Lukla provides with photoscenery - and landclass errors around. The Shishapangma massiv in the background. The "smallest" mountain of those higher than 8000 metres. Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal at 1356 m. Today it has approx. 1 - 1.5 mio inhabitants. The approach to the airport is very steep and tricky. Annapurna, the next eight-thousander. It is in fact a group of mountains with 3 summits over 8000 m, and Annapurna 1 is one of the most dangerous mountains to climb. One of the rare mountains that have a feminine name. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annapurna_Massif Turning away from the Himalaya... ... with Ganges river hiding under the clouds. I had to descend in a holding, ... ... before landing softly in Delhi.   5. Some men at work here: Ground service at Singapore Changi. Flexing up! Amazing how many ships are waiting here. Low & slow over Pulau Batam island - due to an altitude restriction of 6000 ft. Finally we were allowed to climb, and after 21 minutes we crossed the equator - nearly at cruise flight level. Bali. Hours later we reach the land of Oz near Curtin. This is where dreams start. Some really flat land around Fitzroy Crossing... ... and soon the colour changes to red. Uh, oh...! Enough space around, but the plane from Longreach uses the same airway! All passengers on the left side can see a gap... ... and we all know where it is. One should not underestimate the length of these flights - again we run into darkness. This is the original Scoot flight TR12, which is scheduled to land at 19:40 h local time. But before doing so, we have to fly a holding over Sydney... ... and touchdown! 27 minutes late... Another great looking airport. Hurry mates, the city is waiting for you!
  6. Going on from Munich we had the chance to choose the best airline of all. Well, it is a long flight, why should we go with some other? Climbing out of the 08L... ... to reach the initial FL350 just before Vienna. FTs scenery does not blend perfectly into FTXG. Later that day... the Caucasus. Already powdered. The russian Republic of Dagestan with Chirkey Lake below and the Caspian Sea ahead. Over Afghanistan / Pakistan we came into darkness. And India even presented thunderstorms - we had to divert. "Shortly" after the next day came out, somewhere over the Indian Ocean. Here we descend over Malaysia... ... and turn towards our destination. This is it, still flying downwind... ... the Localizer came alive, ... ... and here we were established towards the 20C. I think the 20L is still mudland? Left the runway after a successful landing... Singers just looks great now. Slowly moving into the parking lot... ... and finally we were ready for deboarding. Where to go now? Ah, here´s the luggage belt! Singapore is a great hub, with direct connections to nearly all major airports on this planet. We have booked exactly this flight for next years holiday with our children, so I was totally forced to prepare it in the sim. For me this enhances the pleasure of travelling a lot!
  7. ... was from VABB Chhatrapati Shivaji, (Mumbai) with Air India, departure at 02:00 in the night. The real situation has a lot more light & ground traffic than the sim - showing the real India can´t be simulated! Ready to go on the 26... ... and we´re off. Looking back to the airports... ... and over the Ocean. Displays are configured... ... and the routing is done. Be flexible. Thailand, we come. Initiating the complex approach pattern. Ready to capture the LOC, with VTBS Suvarnabhumi, (Bangkok) slightly left of us. Captured & established. Safe. Unboarding. You can be sure after such a short flight at that daytime, everyone on the plane is tired. So let´s fine a good place to relax here... A great bird, and - without checking any malfunctions - it works fine. Currently I only miss the weather upload, but I´ll surely test a bit more soon (on shorter flights...).
  8. A lovely morning in Copenhagen, expecting spring... Close the doors, please, that´s just too cold here! You see, the season switcher already wants the landscape to be green... ... but the temperature indicator says something different. Crossing Lübeck... ... and the Mittellandkanal at Wolfsburg. If you follow the channel for some few kilometres you come to lovely Hannover. These Germany colours look (unfortunately) realistic for an average March. Currently it would be white... Descending into the clouds... ... with a view over Frankfurt. As you can see from the trees on the apron, this pilot has made a mistake. He did not activate the airport scenery . But he managed to get the Dash landed safely, at least!
  9. UT live did a great job a Shanghai Pudong, presenting the Scandinavian A340 at exactly the right (real) time. As there is no decent A340 for p3d yet, we will have to simulate this flight in a 777. A near miss, but a pleasure. Thanks to the cabin crew, I could get a proper documentation of the flight preparations in the Airbus. Waiting for pushback. Some big colleagues heading home (the United 747 probably in the opposite direction than the Lufthansa below)... ... while UT live presents a challenge to me. SK998 is being pushed back simultaneoulsy. Taking off from 35R, SID PIK12D. This SID means a great city tour for all passengers sitting A... ... but you can see the cityscene technology has not yet arrived in Shanghai. Hongqiao airport below... And there is one other thing we still have inconsistencies while simming: The dessert is served without discussions in RL. Hours later, after turning from north to west and away from the moon... ... we arrive in Russia, over the Burjatia region. Sibiria... ... with frozen lakes and gas fields (you can see the flames), ... ... though I had set Vector without frozen water, unfortunately. Over many hours we flew into the sunset, always chasing the sun... ... and thanks to the purser, he made this wonderful work with my camera. Here we arrive over Sweden, where OLC shows its advantages. The Oresund and Denmark in the distance, the southern tip of Sweden below. On final into the 22L we see Copenhagen to the right... ... and the Oresund bridge to the left. All is set for landing... ... seems to work well. As does UT live, once again. Thinking back, we can praise what we have with all the ingredients for simming - and what we have lost: The OOMs, I mean. BTW: Sorry for so many pictures. But they were collected in two 11 hour-flights, so you can say I was already selective...!
  10. After a busy week I finally found some time to celebrate Chinese New Year. What could be better than a little flight to the "countryside", China Eastern 2254 from Shanghai Hongqiao, for example - ready for boarding. But before we board, we walk through the airport to watch mighty birds... ... and to buy some snacks for the flight. Pushback complete, hand signal received. Takeoff, ok some city details are missing... The chinese landscape already looks good in pure Global. Descending into Yancheng. And this is how the airport looks... I fear there is a long way to go before the sim scenery is able to follow reality in this big country. Even the jetway might be improveable. Not so many flight connections between this airport and Shanghai, I will have to return by car tomorrow...
  11. Oh, so sorry, I am late, just too much work to finish... but finally I can take flight SQ 828 from Changi to Pudong: Make sure the right luggage is loaded. Taking off out of Singapore... ... into the usual clouds, even at 07:30 in the morning. Here we are already over China, near Xiamen... ... and over Taishun county. That´s what the paxes usually see here. No Orbx scenery detectable (but it is there!). Into holding at NW of Pudong airport... ... and finally into final, towards the 35R. A little offset... UT Live is doing its job. Very satisfying. Now let´s celebrate Chinese New Year!
  12. Mimicking a real Jetstar flight (3K161), departing Singapore at 23:05 local time, means not much scenery to be seen for a longer time. So we enjoy boarding... ... the "on runway" callout... ... and, after about 23 minutes, equator crossing. Some 4 hours later, the land of Oz comes into view... ... mainland! And here we go into final at Darwin... ... an airport that is slightly enhanced by OZx. Though not fully working today (nor GSX or AI, and surely no PeopleFlow or even the red lady ). 32°C in the morning (a delayed landing after strong headwinds). Looks like a good continent to stay over winter.
  13. First, one for Sniper. Then we takeoff in a slightly colourful bird... ... over Honolulu, ... and leaving Oahu. Crossing Molokai, ... ... Kalaupapa, ... and Wailau valley, ... ... before changing planes in Kahului. Watching Maui´s north shore, ... ... and the "USS" Hana, ... followed by waving goodbye to Maui ... ... into pure white-blue. Arriving over Big Island... ... around Waimea... ... and finally downwind into Kailua-Kona. Quite a place for some holidays...
  14. Some old (FS2004?) freeware, with deficencies (coastlines not fitting, ground altitudes with steps), but still well suited for today. And HD trees really make a difference here, a great impression! Happy holidays!
  15. The final part of my India trip began, as usual, in the middle of the night. Takeoff at 03:30 local time. To me the routing was surprisingly far to the north... ... so we crossed the Volga near Samara (good morning @jury42 !), ... and the northernmost point was not far from Moscow. Descending just after passing Kassel... ... with the Main river below. The approach to 7R looks more complicated than it is... ... but the final was accompanied by our lovely chimes. At least I could land and taxi the beast, the sim crashed when shutting down the plane. Very pleased to see that the connecting one was already waiting, ... ... before we had to wait for incoming traffic on the 7C. Taking off... ... with a little city view. The OLC-GEN border clearly shows the superiority of a full fat region: The grey-brown colours are much more realistic than the yellow-white mixtures of OLC. Descending... ... into Hanover. And here we are, close... ... and a little less close. Just in time for breakfast!
  16. Going on out of Mumbai... ... and into Delhi, ... ... before proceeding with smaller equipment over the Diplomatic Quarter, ... ... and Noida... ... to follow the newly built Yamuna Expressway. Vector does its job. In contrast to the default landclass / autogen. You can see the Buddh F1 circuit below - not. At least, there is one detail in Agra present in FSX. But only one. The (big) Red Agra Fort should be below. The city does not have multi-storey houses like these, for sure not at the shores of the river. And the river does have so much water only in Monsoon time. No good immersion here... ... time to leave.

It turned out to be very difficult setting up the return flight from Vizakhapatnam to Mumbai: VEVZ does not exist in my ATC program (Pro-ATC/X) VOVZ does not exist in the Navigation system of my Airbus (Aerosoft) After tweaking this, the ATC recognized that the FSX runways (2006 status!) of Vizak are to short for the A320. In real life this works, as the 09/27 is much longer now... After tweaking this, the Airbus refused to start cold&dark, and to start the checklist functions. So I had to combine a manual take-off-abort-and-return at Vizakhapatnam with the entire flight (cheated) out of Hyderabad... at least this worked, but it took me days to get all this sorted out. Ready for pushback (virtual Hyderabad, real Vizak). See the ground crew hiding in the shadow, for good reason. Takeoff over the harbour of Vizak, with a quick right turn to see the airport from above (also in real, though difficult to spot). And here we are approaching Mumbai, with the impression being ok, but far from the quickly changing real looking. At over 40°C, improvisation is everything. Waiting for the connecting flight at 24°C, improvisation is also good.
  18. I was lucky to arrive already on a Sunday at noon at Vizakhapatnam, so I could do a tour towards the ocean which the real @luckyb52 may see every day. Over Vizak city (hey, the impression is great already!)... ... along RK beach towards my hotel. It should be just below the helicopter - but here we have to hope for OLC (at least). And also the beach could be more detailed, at day... ... or at night. Going north to the famous Kailasagiri Hill... ... and up. Sure no climb at these temperatures... ... but a good view from the top. Tenneti Park at the bottom of the hill. And back to the airport on the common approach. The level of detail and, even more, the impression is quite ok, I must say.
  19. ... more precise: The Indian subcontinent. Out of Mumbai (Terminal 1, Gate A7)... Not easy to work here... ... as you can see from the temperature indications (before the APU was turned on). So let us taxi across Chattrapathi Shivaji International Airport towards Rwy 27... ... and takeoff over the Ocean shore ("East coast" you could say). Not much to see during the flight, haze whereever you look. At least a bit more to spot during descend... ... with hills looking much like the Glasshouse mountains coming up. Approach is just over the city of Vizakhapatnam, with the Ocean again below us - now the west coast. And here FSX comes to its ends, Visakhapatnam Airport is not too detailed in the sim... Early enough to do some sightseeing later on!
  20. Time for boarding, but - as you can see - not for a short distance flight... The active is the southern one... Managing the beast in manual mode (and the FTX trees make a great impression)... ... before looking back... and climbing into the clouds. No, I do not go to LOWI like anyone else these days. I just pass the beautiful austrian alps... ... and go a little bit further south... ... to the region around Mt. Ararat. Too many clouds to see the remainders of the Arch. Navigation made easy, but you need to wait a long time with Lufthansas current airshow to get the right pictures. Night lighting in the sim is not perfect in Asia, yet: Much too dark in megacities like this. At least we can follow the approach data... Much too dark is also the virtual taxi, compared to the real one: Now for the lovely immigration procedure, at a time when dozens of international flights arrive. Not the best way to spend the night ...
  21. Hmmm, such a good looking place in Zurich airport... (in fact is it the smokers lounge, so no place for me - except for taking a picture). OK, let´s go, once again with a well suited bird for this one-hour flight. Bye, bye, mountains! Getting back to Germany (Fulda beyond)... ... and into Germany North. To the left we should see Rinteln and Porta Westfalica, and clearly the Weser river approaching the Porta between the mountain ridges. Some manouvres, see the approach procedure on the ND. And this is the time & place to turn into final towards the 09L. An uneventful landing and the short way to grab a taxi make this trip complete. But I´ve been here too often to make pictures... getting back overseas soon!
  22. Current flights from Shanghai to Europe are day flights in total darkness, as they are to close to the polar regions. So I switched the calendar back to April for this report, also the RL evidences are from that month. After the usual delays and longish taxiing, takeoff in Pudong on 35R gets us already in the right direction. Just north of the airport land is still under development, no wonder the sim can not change as fast as reality. The landclass & textures of the agricultural areas near Yangtze river could be improved, I am sure this is not too much work for our favoured scenery provider. In contrast, the desert not needs to be improved. The Gobi desert, disappointing in the sim (and not too exciting in RL either). Thanks for some information from the cockpit: In China & Mongolia FLs are assigned in metric system, not in imperial. Here we receive the official translation chart. My ATC did not know this, so I had to use FL350... Leaving the Gobi desert and crossing the russian border, the landscape changes. It will be a huge work to have Russia precisely depicted in the sim. E. g. the famous city of Tayga ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tayga ) is missing: Be assured, I did not get wrong: The official flight route used is: ZSPD DCT SASAN R343 HFE B208 MU A575 DARNO P982 TR A308 ABK R104 BA R348 XV G117 ADMUR G713 PUNIT B210 SU R30 GONBI G707 RANVA P863 KOTAM L990 MARIP N850 MIC UZ712 KEGAB UZ706 NOR UM170 RAPOR UZ157 LORNI DCT LFPG To avoid confusing effects, I always have "frozen water" ticked off in the Vector tool. A disadvantage for this flight, as reality shows: Reaching the baltic sea, many hours of headwind later. The city & airport of Kalmar, just west of the island Öland. Shadows in Denmark, thanks to Steve Parsons. An effect which comes up even from FL390. Hamburg, even a pleasure to see from high altitude. Preparing to leave GEN, just ahead of Köln. And into Charles de Gaulle. My ATC assigned the northmost runway 27R - what a pity, as the AF bird needs to be parked in the south. In reality, they managed to do a sidestep into 26R, saving lots of time and fuel. à bientôt! Sorry for the amount of pictures. This only reflects the longish flight time, with an extra hour of headwind - time enough to take pictures...
  23. I wasn´t able to post or comment here last week, as I have been out ouf my offices. Took a night flight out of Paris together with a colleague, so a ) it was dark outside and b ) we chose the middle seats, so I can not share my usual documentation. But at least I can show you the descent over Jiangsu province... Final towards the 35R, in usual visibility conditions. No worries, we are safe. Transfer to downtown - not as fast as the Maglev train, but better suited for this forum. OK, here we get to the limits of the generic FSX landclass. Houses like in the US, but Shanghai would look totally different. At least some POIs have been included, e. g. Jin Mao tower and the World Financial Center (the bottle opener, though wrong depicted). Pearl tower is way to small here. The Westin Hotel, correct look, but totally misplaced (and there would be no baseball field in downtown Shanghai!). As you can see in the 2nd picture the hotel is not far from the Bund (coast), and there are entirely buildings of at least 5 storeys around. So let´s proceed west to Hongqiao airport, and change to a copter for a short city commute. Most travellers will walk to the bund on their first evening. Quite some work, but also potential for OLC Asia. The additional challenge is the fast-changing POI landscape in these emerging countries. We´ll see...

  25. I did not post that much this month, especially keeping in mind the recent release of my home region, which clearly needs exploration. But here is the first part of my alibi for the past weeks: Our plane was prepared on an early morning in Thessaloniki. The bus is coming. Something is missing in this view... ... let us turn on PeopleFlow. Checklists are being read. Taxiing on taxiway A... ... towards the 16. Indeed. Down the greek mainland... ... towards the harbors of Piraeus. You can see how brilliant Vector is. Now have a look at the long peninsula covering an harbor in the middle of this shot. You see slightly bigger buildings on the mainland next to it. Not so in RL: This is LGAT Hellinikon airport. I wonder why this is missing in the sim? OK, let us make a left turn around the next cape... ... into final to the 03R. In the sim you can see a nice & noisy golf ground... ... which looks different in RL. And the next difference, this time due to my setup: On many airports I have lost my (WoAI) traffic. I do not know why. At least this gap shortens my waiting time for the connecting flight.
