  1. Established in 1921, Essendon Airport is Australia's second oldest international airport after Sydney and marks its centenary this year. Now known as Essendon Fields Airport, it plays a very important role in the aviation sector for Victoria and hosts a large mix of non-aviation related businesses. It is also the home to the Headquarters for Orbx, which was featured in our Microsoft Partnership video. Originally called St Johns Airfield and then Essendon Aerodrome, the airport played an important role in Australia’s growing civil aviation industry as well as defence operations during WWII. As passenger services grew, Essendon was Melbourne’s international airport from 1950 until 1970 when the present-day Melbourne International Airport opened in the neighbouring suburb of Tullamarine. Essendon Airport now operates as a general aviation facility and hosts regular passenger transport to regional locations, private charters and tourist flights, emergency services, training and private aircraft. Since 2001, extensive property development has occurred to revitalise the airport and create a vibrant commercial hub. Come and have a look inside the terminal, right into Orbx's office! We are proud and excited to formally introduce you to our Essendon Fields Airport, coming first to Microsoft Flight Simulator and then P3D v4+ and X-Plane 11. Releasing this weekend! Customers with YMEN Essendon v1 for FSX/P3D will be eligible for a 20% discount to upgrade to this completely new version of YMEN Essendon Airport.

  10. When designer Reginald J Mitchell died of cancer in 1937, although having seen the prototype take to the air the previous year, little could he have known just how much influence his brilliant design for "an all-metal monoplane, eight-gun fighter" would have on the outcome of the Second World War. Spitfires fought from the earliest days of the War right through to its close in both the European and Pacific theatres and continued to serve with distinction through more conflicts to come all the way to the 1960s. But it was in the darkest days of 1940, when Britain was on the back foot following a disastrous campaign in France, the following evacuations from Dunkirk and the consequential "Battle of Britain" that Mitchell’s graceful little fighter really proved its mettle. Alongside the venerable Hawker Hurricane, its stablemate in many RAF squadrons of the day, pilots flew the Spitfire into battle all throughout each day of the long hot summer of 1940. $45.00 AUD Sales tax will be calculated at checkout where applicable. US$33.01 | €27,92 | £23.87 USD, EUR, GBP estimates only In this simulation, you will find examples of Mk1As which fought in the “Battle of Britain” piloted by some of that battle’s "aces". You'll also find a faithful recreation of N3200 - QV one of "The Dunkirk Spitfires" unearthed from the Normandy beaches where she had lain since 1940 and restored to perfection and flying condition today. We will take you through all the necessary steps needed to fly a Spitfire, point out some of the design’s unique features and get you as close as possible to feeling what it would have been like to fly this incredible aeroplane. 11. Vágar Airport (Faroese: Vága Floghavn) (IATA: FAE, ICAO: EKVG) is the only airport in the Faroe Islands and is located 2km east of Sørvágur. Due to the Faroe Islands' status as a self-governing territory, the airport is not subject to the rules of the European Union and is the primary operating base for Faroese national airline - Atlantic Airways. The airport approach is challenging due to the hills surrounding it and regular wind gusts. It often sees a variety of A319/A320, B737, or BAe 146 aircraft with many of them flying there as charters besides the regular schedule. 13. Hi everyone, We realise we have not announced any product roadmap for a while, mostly due to putting efforts on planning around the release of Microsoft Flight Simulator and understanding what was possible. After a few months, and a few more products, we feel now it’s a good time to draw up a list of products which we are planning to release in the next little while. Now - we know in flight sim (and in life!) things can change fast, so we reserve the right to modify the list and the sequence, so best to keep checking our “coming soon” page to be up to date with what is coming next. First of all, here are some of the Landmarks City Packs we have lined up for development in MSFS: Auckland, New Zealand Cape Town, South Africa Cairo, Egypt Dubai, UAE Dublin, Ireland Frankfurt, Germany Honolulu, Oahu, USA Melbourne, Australia Mumbai, India Panama Canal and Panama City Yokohama, Japan ....and Cityscape Sydney for P3D! Then a few Regional Packs, also for MSFS: Canary Islands Northern England Scotland A couple of very neat regions are planned for X-Plane 11 and Prepar3D, with the spectacular TrueEarth Eastern Alps (P3D) and TrueEarth Southern Spain (XP11), and you already know about openLC Asia. Regarding airports, we have a bit of a mix between P3D and MSFS, but we are also looking at a number of refreshed airports for XP11. These below are the ones in production: KBOI Boise International (P3D) KBUR Hollywood Burbank (XPL) KCRW Chuck Yeager (MSFS) KPBI Palm Beach (P3D & MSFS) LDSP Split Airport (P3D & MSFS) LIEO Olbia (XPL) LKPR Prague (P3D & MSFS) VTSP Phuket International (P3D) And from our Indies, we have the following that are in deep development: KAVX Catalina for MSFS (Ken & Tim) ENTO Torp for P3D (Finn) KVNY Van Nuys for P3D & MSFS (Matteo) LIPH Treviso for MSFS (Matteo) SBSP São Paulo for MSFS (Matteo) ESSB Stockholm Bromma for MSFS & P3D (Marcus) On top of these, our Australian HQ airport, YMEN, will be launched on MSFS, P3D and XP11 at the same time. Essendon Fields is celebrating 100 years of operation, and we are working closely with Essendon Fields management and airport operations to bring you this airport in its full glory, with max details and true to life buildings. We are rather excited by this (very excited as a matter of fact!), and we hope you will all come and visit. ;-) In some really new news, we will be soon releasing our very first aircraft for MSFS - the Edgley Optica. The aircraft was designed for low speed observation work with a loiter time of around 7 hours, intended to rival helicopters. The bubble canopy provides an amazing 270 degrees panoramic vision and almost vertical downward vision, which is perfect for enjoying Orbx scenery all around. A total of 22 aircraft were manufactured over the years and some are still operational in countries across the globe. Our version has been lovingly crafted with a high attention to detail and will come with some representation of real world skins including some of our own favourite custom designs. We are sure you will love flying this aircraft in MSFS as much as our team has. Well! That is a bit of a list which will keep us busy for the next few months… We are leaving this post open for comments. Happy to get your feedback and future requests! As always yours in flying, The Orbx Team
