discord, tried it, don't like it......

I don't like it either, but as a matter of fact more and more developers shift all their support, news, discussions etc. to that messy conglomerate. It's as with facebook a few years ago which once was a MUST (and which I still dislike).

Like it or not, we'll have to live with it.

    Kind regards, Michael

    Hello,
    thanks.
just to be sure, you and John install all of your Orbx Central products into an Orbx Central Library
and then move them out of that Orbx Central Library into different folders of your choice?
Then you link them back into that Orbx Central Library in order to check for updates?

I install them into the simulator (i.e. /Community folder) and move them (via the Linker integrated functionality) into the proper subdirectory (usually according to country) of my /MSFS Addons directory. Always before calling Orbx Central, I activate all sceneries (via the corresponding linker button) and now all updates go into the proper directories.

    Kind regards, Michael

With option C, I suggest you do what I do and that is to regularly activate via Addon Linker, all your Orbx addons. Central will then show as installed and allow updates, uninstalls etc. After Central has has done its updates for your addons, you then can deactivate your Orbx addons using Addon linker to whatever extent you wish.

This is what I do and has been flawlessly working for two years now. Recommended.

  4. Really glad to have you flying in and enjoying Bangkok now, Carlos. It is indeed a fascinating scenery.

I can't comment much on this setting as I use VR nearly exclusively and have limited fps to 30 using the OpenXR tool, which is a completely different setup. However, when I start a flight under 2D initially, before jumping into the headset, it is just fluid for me as well.

The most strange thing is this issue obviously seems to be limited to just Bangkok.

    Kind regards, Michael

  5. Hi Carlos,

I am afraid it's something either with your machine or settings. There would have been an outcry in the community, if more users shared that terrible stuttering. I looked around on several sites and Bangkok gets very favorable judgemenets all over and I didn't see any more complaints about performance, though.

I know such is frustrating but I wouldn't give in, there should be a way to get this straight.

    My best wishes, Michael

This is horrible and in no way does it compare to my experience, neither 2D nor VR which has occasional short hiccups, but otherwise is fine. And I should mention, I went pretty crazy with my graphics settings, perhaps overestimating the 4080.

I'll do a bit more experimentation what's so special about this scenery, notably compare it to other of Sam's sceneries including his acclaimed Hong Kong.

BTW, SamScene3D has a Discord support channel

Correct link added for you  https://discord.gg/bEcGYzggCg

Not sure if this is the proper way to link to a Discord channel, and I am far from a Discord fan, but that's just the way he  choose to communicate with us.

    Kind regards, Michael

  7. Carlos, I just detected a possible cause.

I made another test under VR (I only rarely fly on the 2D screen those days) and this was less favorable. I had short blackouts and stutters and performance was at least fluctuating.

I use a so-called OpenXR Toolkit showing several performance figures, including GPU and CPU usage plus VRAM usage, under VR. This way I found, the blackouts/stutters were linked to my VRAM being used to 105 %, 110 % or even more, i.e. overused, and the system makes use of some slower RAM at these instants.

I have a brand-new (heavily overpriced) GTX 4080 card with 16 GB VRAM and I never expected this could be exhausted within the first three months, but here we go. It's certainly sufficient for my 3440x1440 monitor but not for my 2x2160x2160 Reverb1. Now, I see you have a 6GB GTX 1660 on a 3840x2160 TV, thus I am afraid it's your VRAM being exhausted as well.

Not 100% sure that's the final answer in stone, but at least something to think about. I might write Sam about this, but only after some more investigation to confirm the results.

    Kind regards, Michael

  8. Hi,

it took me a couple of days to buy and install SamScene3D's Bangkok. I don't see any performance issues either, here is a shot:

    20230318214452_1.thumb.jpg.8fa7b6190207662ff3cdb0162f82454d.jpg

As you see, I get > 60 fps. This is with DLSS  quality and frame doubling and a TLOD = 200. Granted, I just got a new system, but that is roughly the performance I would expect for this type of scenery.

I am afriad there is (i) either an issue with your installation, or (preferred) some other scenery in the background, perhaps even a global one or the alternative Aviatek Bangkok (with much less buildings).

In any case, I would try an empty Community folder with only Bangkok in it. If you use the Addon linker that's easy to achieve.

    Kind regards, Michael

I don't like Discord at all. I am a member on a couple of sites, had to be to get answers, that's the only reason, apart from that - no thanks.

Devs are flocking to Discord because they feel "all are doing it". Was the same when facebook became "the thing". I can't understand why they exchange a well-organized and user-friendly forum for an unorganized and vexing mess.

I had to subscribe to a few channels to stay informed, too, but it's really not fun there.

Have you seen any issues with it?

I made two heli flights over Auckland City, one with Orbx Landmarks on and another off. I saw several spikes and malformed structures and the harbor bridge looked strange with the Landmarks on, thus I am afraid they don't play well together and I will uninstall it for now.

Anyone to confirm this? If so, does Orbx have any plans to work on a compatible version?

    Kind regards, Michael

  11. FSLTL is a really fine solution, it's super-easy to install and and it is realtime. Many may consider this an advantage, but if you want to fly to/from airports nearby to your home late in the evening you will find them quite empty, naturally.

Mainly because of this, I use the PSXSeecontraffic/RealTraffic combo combined with the AIG models. I agree, installing AIG is no fun, but there are tutorials and you have to do the base installation only once.

The clubfoot of PSXSeecontraffic/RealTraffic is its very steep price. While PSXSeecontraffic is free, the yearly subscription of RealTrafffic with historical data costs 200 $. Despite of this, there is a quite numerous group of users.

Otherwise, AIG, itself being free, using their own injector is flightplan-driven and as such independent on the time of your flying.

Michael, have you got your decimal point in the wrong place? I've got individual airports that are bigger than 1.3gb and a lower spec PC than yours and MY MSFS opens up with everything in about 5-7 mins if I leave everything enabled.

Argh. Thanks for the hint. This was meant to be 1.3 TB.

    Kind regards, Michael

  13. My MSFSAddons folder - managed by Addons Linker - is 1.3GB. Expectedly, the sim just doesn't start when I have all addons active at the same time, at least not within 1/2 hr, and yes, I tried once.

I manage all addons bought via Orbx Central by installing them into the Simulator (Community folder) and shifting them into the proper country directory in the MSFSAddons folder using the Linker. From that point on, maintenance is easy, I just activate all country folders using the linker before starting Orbx Central, and it saves updates directly to the proper places, based on the links. Not all of the management tools by other vendors provide this convenient upgrade path.

When flying, I typically only activate a hand full of directories (a country, some global addons like the Marinas, AIG or FSLTL etc). I had perhaps a couple of addon-based CTDs over the years, which I could isolate using a nesting procedure.

IMO, the Addon Linker is indeed the most useful single addon I got for MSFS.

I can't understand what Sam Scene are trying to say on the Orbxdirect page,

There are topics on this matter on the Official forum, on AVSIM, and on Orbx now. I would certainly name SamScene3D a trusted developer (I own all his sceneries), but there are very few, if any, people who seem to understood the two versions.

As far as I vaguely understand, the sceneries are both identical, it's the planes movements being different.

BTW, does anyone know if FS2020 has a "First Person" mode like Orbx offered for FSX? I've got a long way to go when it comes to the camera modes in MSFS. As I said, I'll be posting some questions about that in the support section soon.

    Rich

FSRealistic has a 1st person mode in development. You can find a preview on YouTube.
