  1. Hi Cathy. very pleased for you that you've won. I don't know how, so you better go straight down the bookies! I enjoy the solid feel of X-56 as a flight instrument, hope you do too. Please note that in my reply to your original post, I've put my specs as including Windows 11. So that works for me on my PC system. Maybe for you, but maybe not. Only an IT expert can answer that'n, taking into account your system details/compatibilities, updates etc. Very occasionally I get problems with NVIDIA driver updates, and then roll back one until a very new driver is available. With P3D, I've learned the start-up must be with one of their default planes and not a 3rd party plane e.g. A2A Bonanza, then it goes doolally; once loaded then I select my 3rd party plane. 2. and here's my system specs, Cathy. My system specs.docx
  3. Cathy I'm replying with attachments. That's all I have to offer you. My HOTAS X56 works perfectly, no regrets, with a really nice "solid" feel (stick is a bit stiff to twist so choose the blue spring). I'm not at all technical, but if other people take the risk and offer you stuff then your solution may appear. You will succeed! I might have to send other messages if I exceed file size limit. Also have you downloaded got the PDF from Logitech 'X56 User Guide'? reconfiguring X56 for p3d.docx X-56 throttle settings.docx X-56 throttle set lights.docx
  4. Hi Anna C, Nick C, Iain E., Wain and ALL you Sim Pilots Happy Saint Paddy's for Sunday. (I've always got my card in sweaty mits ready for Orbx scenery for the excellent P3Dv6) Keep on doin' your stuff, you Orbx folks. THANK YOU, as always. \ SLAINTE MHATH !
  5. Fellow Simulator Pilots, re x56 Joystick (and therefore the range of other controllers) a couple of things 1. above, I've mistakenly recommended the GREEN spring. In correction, I now recommend fitting the smallest, BLUE spring. With blue, ground steering is easier and more responsive, less twist-force needed 2. especially for the tall x56 joystick (and also the shorter throttle), I recommend, if your seat allows, to raise the seat-arms and keep your ELBOWS GROUNDED on the seat arms. I believe I've developed painful muscle/tendon strain by keeping my arms held in mid-air for, say, hour-plus flying Cheers, Rod EGBB
  6. me too, Anna. Assolutamente! I'm sure Orbx will make a fabulous 'Central' result for P3D v6 and Lockheed Martin. Rotate! ................. Ruotare! Card at the ready Rod EGBB
  7. added the button numbers to my card, as attached. And other stuff for interest (my daughter lives on former site of RAF Longbridge (Austin works) and the photos are from there, back in the day. When I visit her, I am always appreciative of this history; very moving https://www.iwm.org.uk/history/16-amazing-photos-from-the-battle-of-britain X-56 throttle settings.docx
  8. Hi Matt and more! I've allocated the TGL buttons on the right side of X-56 throttle for LIGHTS. As attached. I might chose to use 'em or just use mouse to click on aircraft switches. As you see from the attached, this worked neatly for MSFS but for P3D only 2 buttons/light settings were applicable (tho it's still handy to flick the landing lights with TGL 2) Rod EGBB maybe I shouldn't have put that tenner on Wolverhampton Wanderers ("Wolves") X-56 throttle set lights.docx
  9. Hi Matt so I've made myself a small memory aid (laminated card size), I need it these days, of my throttle settings; put card down on back of X-56 throttle. I've made it cos the small differences for P3D and MSFS might confuse me. (I haven't made reference to keyboard in these posts cos I don't fell like using it for flight sim) Rod EGBB blue sky, mow lawn, storms, beer, beer etc X-56 throttle settings.docx
  10. Hi Matt so I followed above helpful video and I've reset my x-56 throttle axes and buttons for MSFS to be very similar to my 'profile' above re P3D; except I couldn't find a control to allocate to propellor (increase 'n decrease), so I'll just use my mouse to drag the prop up 'n down. Bonus, for ease and consistency with P3D, I've changed my button on the X-56 stick, for MSFS, so that the trigger (button 1) is the brake instead of button 5 at the base and back of stick. Hope all of this is of interest. Rod EGBB
  11. Hi Matt (and All) Sim Pilots and .....
  12. Matt I'm fairly low tech, but I know your thread is important; cos I have recently bought the excellent X-56 myself. Nice and chunky. Why fly an aeroplane with thumbs on tiny Xbox buttons? I'm sorry not to answer your Q tho' I think my reply is relevant. My settings FOR P3D (v5.4 & v6) (I prefer the green spring on the joystick). For the throttle I've physically separated the 2 levers, on AXIS ASSIGNMENTS I've made the Y-axis for the throttle (the right hand lever), and the X-axis for the mixture, and the wheel (button 2) on top of the throttle, is the Z-axis for the elevator trim. For KEY ASSIGNMENTS, the wheel (buttons 30/31), on top of the mixture lever is for propellor , I've selected the front set of buttons as button 6/7 for parking brake, button 8 for gear up/down, (button 9 for views), button 10/11 for flaps retracted/extended. As to MSFS , I found everything over-reactive "twitchy"/chaotic. so I'm experimenting. I cannot explain "why" but things seem much more stable after I went into controls\throttle\sensitivity and then in the sensitivity section window I moved the slider to 0% so that the S-curves turned into straight lines. Just like you, Matt, my next step is to try and impose the above X-56 throttle settings/buttons for P3D onto MSFS: so I don't get confused with different arrangements and because my settings/buttons above seem intuitively correct to me. Dizzying stuff! Good luck Rod EGBB
  13. Great news George; thousands of 'takers' by the looks of it. I've copied 'n pasted a recent post I made on Avsim\P3D Addon Compatibility List. Hi CO2Neutral bloomin' well said, sir! I concur, and I bet so do a good chunk of the 34,000 viewers of this thread. With simming, looks ain't everything. It's got to fly good! Flying P3D v6 (and v5) is stable, controllable and immersive. You nearly always get to your destination, without drama. P3D v6 default scenery is hugely improved. MSFS feels, TO ME, like cycling to the shops on a narrow, winding and busy pavement ON A PENNY-FARTHING! (careful with the spelling). Precarious but I will continue to give a go, too.(MSFS is extremely visually appealing). I definitely agree, CO2Neutral, Lockheed Martin P3D v6 (and v5) is not dead. Very much alive, so please don't bin it or put into deep freeze. Most importantly, we all need detailed and realistic airports, please dear Anna Cicognani at Orbx etc. And much better quality aircraft compared to the defaults. Though copying over A2A's fleet is a great start (needing a tweak, please star Scott Gentile and team. And Carenado/Alabeo Golden Eagle C421 and Diamond DA-62 work very well (after their patch/fix is applied) Q. To cut to the chase, I would very much like to know if anyone has actually tried installing/running Vertx DA-62 (for P3D v4) into P3D v6? I know it doesn't work, without dark-arts and trickery, in P3D v5. I'll wait for replies to this question, and then I'll swig some ale for Dutch courage, and have a go myself (assuming I cannot damage my sim (?). Sean Maloney's version was ace (just like his RealAir Beechcraft Turbo Duke which works fantastically in P3D v6, though just for those who originally bought it many moons ago. Rod EGBB hot, too hot, beer in fridge for later or sooner)
  14. Hi Aussie123 MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL: "Is it possible that Matildas play Lionesses in the final? Back to the humdrum. I've got great news, and hope robpol471 is listening. The planes lights do light up the cockpit and panel (in a really convincing effect that is not over-bright) as long as the window Time&Season\Time of Day does not read "DUSK" or "DAWN". In the dawn condition with a dark cockpit, internal lights ON, if you adjust time back a just a little till it reads "NIGHT" then, hey presto, we have illumination. Ditto, in the .dusk condition, if you adjust time forward till "NIGHT" then again the internal lights have effect. So this is also a work-around and the status quo is a tad better than my previous post. With P3Dv6 you CAN have NIGHT flights also. (As long as you get back before DUSK, when the stage-coach turns back to a pumpkin). When I had updated the P3Dv6, yes, I deleted 2 things: C : \ Users\User\AppData\Local\Lockheed Martin\P3Dv6\Shaders (folder) and C : \Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\P3Dv6\CFG (file) But Aussie123, you've asked us "did we delete the TWO shader folders?" As you see I've deleted one SHADERS folder. What is the other one? Please don't tell anyone about my Colombia bet (or my Japan bet)!
  15. Hi robpol471 absolutely the same; drats, double drats and triple drats!!! We are not alone. Hundreds of us, with v6, cannot get into a plane and fly at dawn, dusk and night. VERY EMBARASSING. That is kind of OK with me, because I still genuinely enjoy (daytime) P3D flights, even though I've got a limited and impaired set of planes (except resurrected Real Air Turbo DukeV2) and no 3rd party (airport) scenery. It's not really as comical as this reads. Yet, I still have faith that things will improve. Logically, it "can only get better". C'mon LM, communicate to us real people! Where's the replies in the P3D forum? Where's the replies in ........ And I am enjoying flight simulation, potentially times 3; I've got P3Dv5.4. P3Dv6, MSFS 2020. (Wow!) Rod EGBB later today, england women v colombia (for whom I'm sittin' on £5 @ 40/1 to take world soccer title), another (exciting) dilemma for me
  16. thanks for the heads-up robpol471. I'll race you there; loser buys the pints! Hoping that, after new installation, I'll be able see around the aircraft cockpit and panel at all time of the day and night (instead of groping around in the dark) Rod EGBB beer-night tonight
  17. Here's a follow-along for you fellow Sim Pilots. Please excuse my waffle, I'll try to edit and get to the chase. YES, MSFS does indeed run perfectly on the same C : drive as my P3Dv5 AND P3Dv6. Any flight simulator will always be a representation (Nick Cooper's insight) of reality rather than a clone of reality at the time and environmental conditions of that snap-shot. MSFS does a great job, and I am very interested in keeping at it. P3D also does a really satisfying job too e.g. when displaying Orbx region plus excellent airports. I feel greater control with P3D (using mouse and X52 joystick), so I am having more successful, incident-free flights. I will definitely not bin my enjoyable P3D simulators for years to come. Likewise, I will continue to practise and enjoy the more sophisticated and better visual quality MSFS. Still hoping for the full range of Orbx scenery (regions and loads of airports) for the new generation P3Dv6. Said plastic card needs prising from cobwebs and sending Orbx plenty plenty dosh. Another reason to keep with P3D is that I don't think A2A are going to quickly make their classics and warbird fleet available for MSFS. LM's small aircraft are crude, so I'm keen to get my mits on good-lookers for P3Dv6. Lo and behold, Real Air's fantastic Beechcraft Turbine Duke V2 for FSX can be resurrected and runs in P3D V6 (I think only for people who previously bought it, several years ago). Miracles can happen. Rob Abernathy was absolutely on the ball about memory-saving by file storage (Orbx Libraries) in the D :drive so protecting the 3 growing C : drive simulators. A consequence of all this is that I have an external back-up E :drive (USB into the PC) of just 1TB which is now bubbling up to the brim. All my PC concerns have been dealt with my accessible Midlands Computers, Telford, who built my super high-end PC. So, come Monday, they will remotely configure a new 4 TB external back-up dive for my 2 PC drives. Sorted! Happy flying folks and thanks again to Rob Abernathy.
  18. Many thanks, for taking time to reply to this twit. Acted straightaway on your advice and found highly reliable instructions left by Nick Cooper on a post, as how to move an Orbx Library (and scenery contents) to another location; in my case D : drive. Rob, you've saved my C:drive 175 GB !!! Just goes to show how impressed I am with Orbx, and will keenly remain so for years to come (definitely for P3Dv5 AND v6 products; and after your reassurance, probably for MSFS) You've given me confidence and that is a much appreciated gift Rod EGBB raising my glass of ale to you, Sir
  19. Getting ready to do more Orbx shopping, when my favourite targets (hopefully soon) become available. Up to now on recent posts, I've been waffling (sorry) about P3D and MSFS as if they are mutually exclusive. Maybe they are not. I honestly don't know! So I bet you folks will have experience to answer this: QUESTION: Is it feasible/possible to run MSFS from the same C : Drive, if that same C : Drive also has P3D (V5 &/or V6) installed (but not actively running); and vice versa? Treating like they are 2 completely different "games", obviously I'm not thinking of running then simultaneously nor linking/bridging them in any way. My SSD C : Drive has the two P3Ds installed and yet still has over 1TB FREE. Please take it that I have a very good medium-to-high end set up (Win 11, 32GB RAM, RTX 3090, i7-12700) BUT please assume I'm low tech in me noddle And I've put this in 'general discussion' because it applies to your different sections below. Rod EGBB the lionesses are knockin' in goals PS don't tell anyone my 8/1 bet Japan to take title
  20. Many, many thanks Anna, you're a star, so you are! Thank you for not forgetting us loyal P3D-ers. Oxbx Global, Regional AND AIRPORTS are unmatchable, fantastic and great value for money. They work perfectly, so atmospheric and immersive, on P3Dv5 and so I look forward to fully enjoying take off, cruise and landing for P3Dv6 (and beyond, as Buzz Lightyear puts it). I promise you my loyalty and a certain plastic card As Frank Ifield sings "I remember you. You're the one that made my dreams come true!". Maybe, Anna, you can suss that I'm a smidgen happy after reading your generous post. No longer gloomy 'ol, Rod PS c'mon ye Lionesses ..................c'mon ye Matildas
  21. But then again, if you were a sporting person in Aussie, what would be your immediate priority, tweaking Orbx products for P3Dv6, after they've been so satisfying in v5.4, OR spectating the Women's World Cup? P3Dv5.4. works fantastically, from my PC and X52 Pro stick, in terms of performance, reliability, mostly Orbx scenery and functioning of my set of A2A planes (plus Diamond DA-62 and Golden Eagle C421). I'm keeping my long-term loyalty with LM AND I think it's a superb thing for flight simulation that A2A has launched Comanche 250 with Accu-Sim 2.0 on the microsoft video games platform and controller. Patiently, also loyal and trusting Orbx. Rod EGBB Aston Villa fan but please don't tell my Birmingham City neighbours
  22. G'day Walter, craigeaglefire and ReinFlight Many thanks for heads-up on SODE which I've now updated and registered on both v5 and v6. Great job for standing up and stepping forward and merely asking for a bit of top-down communication. I don't think that's an unreasonable request after our several £100's over several years near-exclusive LOYALTY. Now retired and sort-of recovered from 34 years NHS service, I was very familiar and resilient (being a Viking!) to being blanked out, cold-shouldered by senior managers for being individualist, and strong-minded, evidence-based practice. Surely I wont see that in the flight sim world too; whether it's by leading producers of the best aircraft and scenery. Surely not! Rod EGBB right, back to me steak pie and veggies plus butter 'n salt PS I must declare I've always had great support from Nick Cooper

  24. Absolutely free? Totally free, man? And, not even a few tens out of me pension, and into the wind. No schadenfreude. No sarky. Yup, it hurts! Yup, it's all been humiliating and a bit of a head banger! Back to enjoying the sensation of P3D 5.4! With ace A2A and wonderful Orbx all over the place. And a real appreciation to Orbx for weather theme 7. It came with the Germany scenery but I think it fits really well with the look of British isles skies. Still on a deadly serious note, the light is far to dubious for cricket. I think we'll have to declare a null and void result. I'm sure Orbx would agree. Glad to say that I've picked myself up, dusted myself off and started all over again. Lovin' the P3D+Orbx+A2A. And I hope you too, Rodger and all. Rod
  25. Many thanks John for your attention to my pickle. But even now I'm guessing, reading between the lines and inventing actions. So my guess is that you are suggesting that I reinstall P3D V5.4 (currently completely uninstaleed/deleted) and then use Orbx Central to reinstall all the Orbx scenery (global, regional and airports). (You see I'm guessing that I've already deleted all of this scenery.) Then I'm guessing that you are suggesting that I then also Install P3D v6. Then i might be able to use the Scenery Library function in P3D v6 to point to the scenery in v5. At this stage, I'm afraid to admit that i dont know where i will find that. John could you also help me and tell me where i point to all the scenery files. Please let me know if I've guessed right. I really appreciate being corrected and told simply what steps to take. Rod
