  1. Being an FSX dinosaur I now rarely purchase a new aircraft, or download a free one, but when I did I bought from the developers (including Orbx) as far as possible (except when beta testing and the developer was being generous) or got the freeware ones from various sites where I was involved usually with the development. Skins came sometimes from the developers' sites and/or forums but mostly from the major freeware sites. I have a huge number of aircraft and skins, so much so that I have to keep most of them stored outside of FSX to prevent slow loading. I think I have every aircraft made by Carenado and Alabeo because they look so good and are easily modified to perform pretty close to the book. Many Aerosofts, most of the A2A, some of the MIlviz. All of Milton's freeware, the fabulous C47 developments over the years, and of course the lovely MAAM-SIM works. Probably left out many deserving mentions. What a ride all these great people have given us and let's not forget Mr. Stone!
  2. Yes family economics pushed us from Vegemite to Promite as well (our tribe thrived on the stuff) then we discovered 333's MightyMite which was cheaper again and made in Australia since 1919!!! I think, if we're honest, most of these xxxmites owe their origin to the famous UK Marmite - the history of which I will leave to a more ethnic forum member
  3. Good on you mate for remembering that - where would we be in simland without JV and teams and successors and partners!
  4. Many Happy Returns Sir! AND have a good'un
  5. My Daughter lives in Melbourne and I break it into minimum 5 stages down the inland (choice of 2 routes) less traffic, cooler and some great scenery, lots of great country pubs and clubs (rissoles, bowlos and golf)
  6. Totally agree mate, although a well staged road trip beats traveling in the sardine cans that pass for airliners these days and the physically challenging process of chaos that passes for aviation terminal attendance and negotiation.
  7. Many Happy Returns Mate! Hope you have/had a good'un!
  8. Many Happy Returns Mate! Hope you had a good'un and a satisfactory doctor visit as well!
  9. A. English, Strine, Neo-Melanesian Pidgin B. Several PNG tribal languages and one Australian Aboriginal language C. Chinese, Japanese, French, German I am one of those people who had a facility for picking up a language by listening and using it - and loosing it if I didn't use it. I used to listen to shortwave radio a lot to try and maintain my ability with languages I was not using but that has become more difficult in recent years
  10. Belated Many Happy Returns Mate and hope you had a good'un
  11. Ahhhh FS9 for all the reasons given above - the last sim made for the customer to really learn and manipulate. I have a mate (a LAME) who has refused to progress beyond it for precisely that reason. AND who at the time could forget the magic of VOZ and its associated community participation
  12. Australia has always been a land of floods, bush fires and storms - unfortunately developers over the last century have insisted on building communities where all of those things occur.
  13. I cannot recall the number of legendary gigs I've seen on film that Mr Santana held together with his talent and stamina - glad to hear he's doing OK.
  14. Indeed Many Happy Returns Mate and Have a Good'un!
  15. Judith just had a birthday as well being a gentleman I won't mention the number
  16. Many Happy Returns Mate and have a good'un!
  17. Potassium levels are also of importance with kidney and liver problems I can attest - good luck to all you gents.
  18. Many Happy Returns to you both and hope you are having/had a good'un
  19. Ah lots of beers what was the other thing you mentioned? Seriously, have a good time with your mates!
  20. All my children, who are in their low to high 40s (how did that happen ), and their offspring, who are sometimes more mature than their parents, never fail to keep me entertained on a weekly basis AND for the last week, as a counterpoint, I've been binge watching the original Downton Abbey (having seen them all with my late wife when they first came out) just for the sheer enjoyment of hearing the English language used in a proper and most skillful way - one of the advantages of increasing age I've found is not being able to remember many of the TV shows and movies I've watched over the years my wife was terribly distracting
