Each day, I come to the Forum expecting to see an official announcement of some kind. Nothing yet.

In my opinion, the official ongoing Orbx communication, to it's loyal customers, is terrible. Not even a message telling us to be patient.

Same with X-Plane 12, which is quite frustrating.

I realize the customer base for MSFS is probably much, much larger than XP and P3D combined these days, but people aren't asking for much. Just a short note letting people know what their planes are, if any. It doesn't even have to be a full press release, just literally 2 lines of text.

    Hi there JimmiG.

I assume it does by default, because all this method does is point v6 to the already complete installation in the v5 folders.  There's no reinstallation involved.

True but I've heard conflicting reports about ObjectFlow and I can't figure out whether that's due to some people not installing it correctly or if it's actually not compatible. The way ObjectFlow injects data into the sim, it's possible for compatibility to break if there are some changes to the sim.

    Hi there folks.

By following the procedure laid out in the link I pasted above I have managed to get Orbx working in P3Dv6.

    Cheers

Does this include stuff like ObjectFlow, animated objects at Orbx airports and so on or just global scenery, regions etc.?

    Hello,

at most times of the virtual day, this effect does not occur, so the product works pretty well, considering that it is for the previous version of X Plane.

The beauty of a simulator is that one can choose the time of day, regardless of the time of day.

I have never understood the desire to fly at night over accurate and in many cases, beautiful photo scenery, but these simulators are whatever

the user wants them to be.

True however early mornings or late evenings tend to produce dramatic lighting and nice colors.

  5. It's most noticeable when the sun is low and the trees are backlit. Instead of being in shadow, the side facing away from the sun lights up.

This was always the case in XP11, but the default trees in XP12 don't have this issue. The ones included with TE still do, however. They should probably change the TE products to use the new default XP12 trees, which are also more detailed.

  6. I run an RTX 3060 Ti which works great with MSFS. There's no need for DLSS since I only run at 1080p, but it's a brilliant piece of tech for upscaling to higher resolutions.

The performance of DLSS basically scales with the actual (non-upscaled) resolution. For example, with Balanced, you get the same performance at 4K as you would get at 2227x1253p without DLSS. Performance mode at 4K = 1920x1080p and so on. There's a tiny bit of overhead for the actual Deep Learning upscale, but in reality it's barely noticeable.

While you might see MSFS fill up all available VRAM regardless of whether you have 6, 8 or 12 GB, in reality it doesn't necessarily need all that VRAM. It's just taking advantage of all VRAM since it's there to use.

The radio active glow is the sim and not any TE content, but trees  in TE addons remain as they were. My understanding is that if trees were default trees in XP11 addons, then they would be replaced by the new 3D ones, but TE addons use Terra Flora tress ad so they remain as in XP11. This maybe something that is being looked at but I have no knowledge to date on this.

Yeah now that the stock trees look much better and integrate better with the lighting than TF trees, it makes sense to just switch to default trees for TE. At least until TF has also been updated for the XP12 lighting engine.

  8. Just tried some TrueEarth sceneries and they definitely seem to work fine. However you miss out on some of the XP12 improvements, most noticeably the trees still have that XP11 radioactive glow when backlit and they aren't as detailed as the XP12 stock trees. Hopefully improvements will be made later as XP12 nears its full release.

  9. I've had this issue at KRNT for as long as I can remember. It's simply impossible to start a flight directly at KRNT. The solution is to start at a nearby airport and slew there.

With SU8 and earlier, it would CTD during the loading, with SU9 the sim freezes instead. Always happens at the same time (quite soon after you hit Fly Now).

Sometimes deleting content.xml, SceneryIndexes or rolling cache fixes it, but only temporarily.

And yes, I've tried reinstalling the sim and even Windows (did I clean install when updating to Win11).

My little wish for Orbx....BACK TO THE ROOTS: Airfields & little Airports like Skagit Regional, Sedona, Sonoma County, Monroe Firstair, Israel Farm, Yakutat & many more....

I agree, but we seem to be in the minority. When I asked about this in another thread a while ago, it was explained that Orbx have moved on from producing small airfields and would only do larger regional fields and other scenery products.

  11. Great to see more airports from the PNW coming to FS2020. Still one of my favorite areas to fly, even now that we have the entire world with photo scenery. Personally I don't mind at all if the airports were to be released with the original low-res textures, they still look miles better than the MSFS defaults. Still I understand that Orbx as a company have certain standards they need to adhere to.

  12. In NA, I'm missing 2WA1, 74S, 77S, KBLU, KRDD, KSTS, W28, W52 and WA79. There might be others but those are the ones I noticed right away.

Most of them seem to work just fine if you move them over using the unsupported method, so it should just be a matter of double-checking everything and releasing them. I don't know what's taking 3 months and counting...

Some of them also need better blending with the TE scenery, which is a much bigger project. However that's a different matter and affects P3D v4 too.

Even if i started with the Commodore 64, it was Commodore Amiga 500 with 2 floppy drives, HD 40 MB, and 3 MB RAM expanded. I had all the flight simulators games, included all the jet military simulators (these things belong to the 80's because today no more great simulators like those, in despite of today hardware would allow really great games of this genre).

    Still working

I actually fired up the old Amiga 500 when I was visiting my parents at the old place last Christmas. Surprisingly it worked just fine, even the 40 MB HDD (just like the side cart in the photo), though it was noisier than I remembered (or maybe it was actually making more noise due to the age and not having been powered on for about 20 years).

I also had an Amiga 1200, but I didn't really get into simming until Flight Unlimited II on the PC, around 1997.
