  1. When you install an Orbx addon airport that is already in the base MSFS2020 install should you uninstall the base instance? e.g. YSSY or LOWI?
  2. Cracking shot - great lighting.
  3. Joined the gang at SYDsquad on their twice weekly YouTube stream for some multiplayer flying in MSFS this evening. The route took us from Nice Côte d'Azur Airport (LFMN) to Mont-Dauphin - St-Crépin Airport (LFNC) then the lovely Orbx airport Méribel (LFKX) (see pics below) ending at Courchevel (LFLJ) Both Meribel and Courchevel are challenging landings - worth having a go. If you fancy some multiplayer flying in the AU timezone (Tue & Fri 2100 AEST) I can recommend joining SYDsquad - check out their YouTube site (link here) for details
  4. .. for what it is worth re-enabling rolling cache seems to help. I haven't ("touch wood") had a CTD in the past number of hours of flying. FYI - There is some conjecture on some forums that Asobo has been tweaking the use of rolling cache in SU5.
  5. .. so far so good. I'm noticing some scenery lag in YSSY with both SYD & airport scenery loaded - wonder if reenabling rolling cache will help. . . .
  6. I have been banging my head against the preverbial brick wall ever since the SU5 update - crashes to desktop (CTD) led me to search for sim stability only for the situation to get worse. I did everything suggested bar make a burnt offereings! I renamed the community folder, I deleted content.xml, deleted rolling cache, deleted scenery.dat files, I re-enabled rolling cache, I added comunity folders one at a time, I uppgraded video drivers, monitor firmware.... nothing woked. Finally I investigated the issue of screen sync. I tried G-sync on with V-sync (in game) off, HDR on, HDR off. G-sync full screen set, G-sync full screen & windowed set no luck. It wasn't until I disabled g-sync completely and re-enabled v-sync in game (with FPS at 60) did I finally get some stability. Praise the virtual sky gods!!! Ive just done 3 flights - YBAS area, Bora-Bora scenery tour and YSBK to YSSY in the default C172 without a single CTD. So daring to hope I'm going to try renabling my community folder and see - wish me luck!
  7. About 2 hours or so - fortunately I have a relatively fast internet connection.
  8. Thanks John - taken after my SU5 update.
  9. What else do you do if you are stuck in home lock-down - go flying of course!
  10. Departing KBID Arriving KHVN Quick change of chariots and I'm off Again - departing KHVN heading west
  11. Solved - I also had the default Asobo YSSY airport set as active in content.xml. Setting it to 'false' (as per the article here) fixed the issue.
  12. I'm not sure if this is a problem with Fly Tampa YSSY, CS Sydney or something else but I find the airport tunnel running under 34L appears above the taxiway level. I've tried to delete rolling cache but no luck. Any ideas? Both products are installed via the Orbx Central library (is not direct to the sim)
  13. I think you'll be happy with the Zulu and the bluetooth setup. We use a number of aircraft from the NSW State air desk in the SES that have Bluetooth fitted to comms - they make a real difference.
  14. At least you can tell her that you will still be able to hear her!!
  15. Whilst I haven't used ENC GA headsets, I must say that I would consider noise cancelling systems a must. Your hearing is too precious to risk loosing. My Gentex Helicopter helmet is fitted with CEP (Communications Ear Plug). Whilst it is not active noise cancelling per say it makes a considerable difference both to readability and long term damage to your hearing. As for headsets mentioned I have heard some great things about the Zulu Lighspeed and intened to buy that unit when I start my PPL flying later this year. Out of interest - does anyone know if this can be considered a health insurance benefit??
  16. Forum Name: Bandit Real Name: Mark Location: Sydney, NSW Australia Nick origin: I have been a volunteer on the tarmac at the Australian International Airshow since 1988 in Richmond NSW, now in Avalon, Victoria (YMAV). At one of the early Avalon shows back in the 90's I was doing crowd control on the tarmac known as 'the loop' (The Alpha taxiway between Bravo & Chalie taxiways). At that time the taxiway was open to pedestrians and was not planned to be used to live taxi aircraft rather they were to be towed. As with all best laid plans things changed and I was given the task of clearing the loop whenever an aircraft needed to taxi through the loop. The only means of transport to do this was a moped, the means of communication was a bullhorn. At the end of the show I got off the moped and was greated by a fellow volunteer "Well if it aint the boundary bandit" - the name has stuck. In fact if you go to the tarmac at the airshow and ask one of the team leaders for me by name they wouldnt have a clue. Ask for 'Bandit' then you'll find me. Other info: I work as a senior solutions architect for SITA designing IT software solutions for airlines and airports locally and overseas. I am a Sci-Fi fan (Dr Who\Star Trek\Star Wars...). Like most IT geeks I am also a gadget freak. I have been a Flight simmer for nearly 8 years. Other pastimes (other than FSX) include being a volunteer with the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) for over 23 years. Among my SES duties I am a member of the state aviation management team and an active air observer working out of helios (BKS117s\AS350s\206s mainly) as well as fixed wings (182s\Partenavias etc). I am a member of Schofields Flying Club (YSBK) and plan to do my PPL this year (minister of finance permitting) In short I love the mix of Jet A1 & IT.
