  1. The final pair of airstrips from Ken's PNG #2 set.

AYGH is an interesting one, the elevation per online databases is given as 3', yet the pics of AYGH per the set below show an airstrip way higher than that.

So, bit of a head scratcher.

AYGH (Guhu)- 1,969' long & elevation of 3'??

Not sure if the Spartan aircraft could get out of here.

    b-4.jpg

Going by the surrounding topography, AYGH looks to be higher than 3' ASL.

    b-1.jpg

Compared to some other PNG airfields, AYGH appears to be relatively flat.

    b-2.jpg

Cluster of buildings at the top end of AYGH.

    b-3.jpg

AYNH (Nahu) - 1,368' long, at an elevation of 7,016'.

View from the cockpit at AYNH. Even though it is located at 7,000', there are still mountain tops around it.

    b-5.jpg

    AYNH village.

    b-6.jpg

Wider perspective of AYNH village. The keen eyed will note 4 lunches being cooked. An interesting thing about AYNH is that there is a house right at

the end of the runway. (Far right of the pic)

    b-7.jpg

AYNH: Another unusual tower structure, almost pagoda like in its architecture.

  2. Using the drone camera to have a look at 3 more of the 7 airfields in Ken Hall's PNG Part 2.

(These shots were taken before the recent update)

AYSP, Sapmanga. 1,526' long at an elevation of 2,912'

    a-1.jpg

AYSP - Yes, a lawnmower has been located!

    a-2.jpg

AYSP - I assume the smoking chimney means breakfast is underway.a-3.jpg

AYBC - Bambu. 1,345' long at an elevation of 6,790'. What struck me while looking at the skyline is that these airstrips are located in pretty hilly country.

    AYBC livestock

In case one gets lost - handy sign.

    a-6.jpg

AYNA - Nankina. 1,805' long at an elevation of 5,800'.

    a-7.jpg

Showing here how AYNA, (& other PNG airstrips), are often  located on downwards sloping ridges, with houses either side of the airstrip, and there are also

houses on nearby ridges or spurs.

  3. Isan is at an elevation of 6,955' and said to have a strip 1,345' long.

I overflew it several times yesterday after flying in from AYTP, so I went back today to start a flight from AYIS & get a better look at it.

    A few pics are attached.

    TTM

    Ubiquitous smoking chimney.

    is-1.jpg

    Colorful washing.

    is-2.jpg

Angled view. The Porter is in fact on a small plateau & you can't see the full airstrip from the cockpit. To take off you trundle forwards then drop over the

lip to the downhill ski jump remainder of the airstrip. & pick the gap in the trees at the end of the airstrip if you're running out of runway.

    is-3.jpg

Up in the top left is the airstrip. I think below in the pic is an adjacent village, or part of Isan. On my first approach here I noticed the tower structure in the upper

center of this pic. Not sure what it is for, perhaps Ken could inform us, but I assumed it was a control tower so I was looking for the airstrip to be next

to it. Took a couple of circuits for me to realize the airstrip was further over.

    is-4.jpg

Have left AYISO & dropped down to the right. Keen eyes will pick up the tower off in the distance, above & to the right of the aircraft.

    Thanks again TTM,

you take a great screenshot, you still have 5 more challenges ahead of you, looking forward to seeing your screenshots of your next flight.

    cheers

    Ken

    Thanks Ken

    Always enjoy your work.

I will be flying the rest of the set as time allows. Need to find the lawnmower😀

In the middle of moving house which is more than somewhat time consuming.

    Cheers

  5. A short flight between 2 of the 7 Ken Hall PNG Set #2 airstrips.

Holy ---, AYTIS is hard to get into.

I overflew it several times as it was difficult to pick up on the ridge as there was a village on a neighboring spur with a radio tower that threw me off..

AYTP is longer & more accommodating.

    A few pics.

If you enjoy hand flying bush locations at 7,000', this is the place for you!

PNG residence at AYTP, (Tep Tep) Smoking chimneys assist with locating airstrips.

    Leaving AYTP.

This, I think, [per the GPS], is AYIS (Isan). Tricky to get into, need to get lined up a long way out.

  6. Oh dear

Another set of Ken Hall delights!

Having just purchased my fishing lodge on the Rogue River, complete with decapitating wires across the end of the runway that slopes upwards, I now find Ken has unleashed 7 superb renditions of bushy PNG STOL sites.

My Credit Card will not be amused, it prefers spaced out purchasing.

It is reminding me that I have just started to explore the East Oregon hinterlands, out of Sutton on Rogue.

& that should suffice, for now.

I did have to grin when I read

"offers a flight requiring flying over peaks higher than 11,000 ft and descending steeply into the scenic valleys where the strips are.",

    followed by

"Relax and enjoy the unique scenery that is characteristic of PNG"

    Relax!😀

PNG is about the last place a Pilot can relax in when flying😀

Anyway, for me, anything Ken has waved his magic wand over is an automatic purchase, such is the majesty, quirk & color of his offerings, and especially his treatment of corrugated iron  rust, [the best out there], one simply can't pass it by.

Have a good look at all 40 of the promo pics at the purchase page, seek out the detail. Its there.

USD12.32 is a bargain price for 7 KH airstrips in PNG.

    IMHO😀

  7. Initial look around this very interesting ranch.

A lot of buildings, animals & objects  to find, dotted about the property.

    Recommended.

The waterfall to the left of the pond 'falls' into the pond.

Fisherman among the reeds. His casting was reasonable😀 In the background is a flowering cherry tree?, a number of those on the property added to the color palette.

A mixture of cows & a moving Texas Longhorn

General view of the farming set up.

Looking back at the property from above the Rogue river. There are a lot of buildings scattered about.

    Another tree in blossom.

    Noorduyn about to depart.

    s-10.jpg

Departed Noorduyn. Almost dearly departed - misjudged the upwards slope of the airstrip & found the power lines across the end too high so I went under them.

Deceptively tricky airstrip to get in & out of.

  8. "Welcome to Sutton on Rogue! Nestled along the serene banks of the Rogue River, this riverfront ranch embodies the essence of the Pacific Northwest's natural beauty. Just a short 15-minute drive from the conveniences of Medford and the Rogue Valley International Airport (KMFR), Sutton on Rogue offers a quintessential riverfront living experience."

Congratulations to whomever wrote the copy for the subject Airfield, obviously influenced by time they have spent in Real Estate marketing.

Such mellifluous wordage had me reaching for my check book - horse farm, airstrip, fly fishing - the dream come true!!

At first I thought, from the name, that it might be a gated community or shopping mall, but a closer inspection of the images disabused me of that notion.

Located in the middle of nowhere Oregon hinterland, and reasonably priced, I shall check it out & see what it has to offer, & try & avoid the power lines highlighted by the orange sighter balls in the lead shot.

I have to admit that initially I thought the air strip was a horse paddock.

Perhaps Herbert could lay on a BBQ for my arrival😀

  9. The final airport in the triumvirate, Scandinavian Mountains.

Possibly the smallest foot print of the 3, it doesn't have the color 'punch' that comes with Kiruna's dark red buildings, but it does have deer!!

  10. From the triple header - Kiruna, one of my favorite Northern Sweden locations.

A set of Live Weather shots from an ILS approach into Rwy 21, then looking around the airfield.

The last 2 are from a changing display at the Terminal that caught my eye - time, then temperature.

    Nice touch.

  11. A few more around Umea, at both ends of the airfield, at different times of the day.

I assume the pair at the floating sauna?, are Marcus & a female companion?

What are the rectangular off-white items in the river near the sauna?

Delighted to report that the sauna smoke does move, & the Ikea is where it should be.

Can only say it will be released in days and not weeks :)

Umeå got some really nice approaches, like you noticed. We got a sauna boat on the finals (I bet many people didn't know that existed! ;) ) and also added the botnia rail track bridge that runs cross the small island you pass by on finals. Quite a scenic approach.

On the other hand, from the other direction you get finals right over a big shopping mall with IKEA, and what is more swedish than seeing the latest offerings at IKEA while landing? ;)

I saw Jonathan Beckett had a preview video up on YT yesterday so thought it can't be too far away.

Ah, Ikea - Yes, Swedish meatballs, & I recently built some Billy bookcases for the new house.😗

Thanks for posting these - in a NZ location! I'm still on the fence with the DA42 - I already have a fair few twins in my virtual hangar!

Worth raiding the piggy bank for this one.

    It is a cut above.

  14. One of the longer strips in Ken's set.

Able to get out in the Orbx Pacific Aerospace PAC-750 XSTOL, flew up a gully & hopped over a ridge to come back for the landing, but misjudged the landing height.

Got down ok, but blew through the Chief's house at the far end of the runway.

Currently marinating in a cooking pot.
