  1. my only 'team' was probably when I was in the Army....I had a very traumatic experience at 14 and fell out with everyone, became a pain in everyone's backside, I found the military, only did nearly 7 years but they were the best ever...met some really fantastic people, loved the life and really felt wanted and part of a team, met the wife to...when I left I felt really guilty, I now see a few about the City and one in particular that lives a few hours away, we meet occasionally, but I found it difficult to mix in civvy street, still much the same now.....I'm envious of all you with longtime relationships, I wonder if it's because I have no siblings....
  2. I think the problem we have is for such a small group of Countries we have so many different accents and lots of local words and sayings, also I find some English people when abroad are very lazy, they start to get louder thinking they will be understood, I find that very rude.....when I lived in Berlin in the 80's I got by with very basic German, but the locals appreciated my trying's and usual failings and usually were very helpful... I have a relation who's from Newcastle and if she starts talking with her sister or family I struggle, we visit family in Cork area and I'm okay but the wife is completely lost...so it's not just visitors to the UK... do you have regional accents down under? I know you have some varied one's in the US, also in parts of EU like Spain, France & Germany do they have local words not used in other parts of the country?.... I think anyone learning English has done well when you consider things like - weather - whether - there - their- .....mind you I could never understand which of these to use - Der , Die or Das....
  3. some good stuff there even though some I have not heard off.... saw a band recently, they were local not anything big but the all played and instrument, it's so good to see that as opposed to a group or individual singing to a backing track, a bit like that's like my spelling lately...I am so glad I have spellcheck...

  12. locally it would be Thatchers Cider or a nice IPA, something crisp and with a hint or citrus... when I lived in Berlin in the 80's I was partial to Grolsch or Berliner Kindl, but I avoided schultheiss bier as that put me in the s##thouse the next day!!!! I do like a very simple rum and coke and the only wine would be a nice cold Rose..... all that being said though I actually don't drink much now maybe no more than a glass per week, I think I did all my drinking in the Army...
