  1. The problem remains for me. 1.80 was installed yesterday against my wishes. It causes problems with my system running v5.3HF2.

I’ve been told how to fix it. Auto update is now turned off for SODE. Hopefully that’s the end of it. Back on v1.7.1 and all is well.

  2. Hi Nick,

Thanks for your reply. There were certainly plenty of changes in 5.4 but i was sure it would be okay since LM are pretty experienced now.

I'll upload my plan tomorrow should you or anyone wish to try it. If it's proven there are incompatibility issues with 5.4 is there any realistic chance of an update? I wouldn't want to have to lose AUS v2 but it may be necessary if the scenery is responsible for these problems.

  3. @Nick Cooper, to get back to Orbx scenery I'm having a problem of a flight locking up between Orbx YSCB to Fly Tampa YSSY. It's done it consistently over several days. Not at the same point but always between those two airports.

It locks P3D and on occasion it will eventually unlock and the flight continues. I was convinced it was a hardware problem with my new computer but having flown Manchester to Heathrow successfully today I'm now convinced the problem lies with AUS v2.

I'm going to fly the same route tomorrow with AUS v2 either disabled or uninstalled. If it's okay that more or less points to that scenery being the problem.

Has AUS v2 been tested with v5.4?

  4. I'm having problems with the appearance of the ground textures in P3D v5.4 with AUS 2 installed. See attached photo.

I have followed Nick's pinned topic on how to fix it but it remains. Is there a solution to this please? I have verified files for AUS 2 and Orbx Libraries and run the Syn Sim under Help.

I should also add that I get DXGI_DEVICE_HUNG error if I start P3D at YSSY despite deleting shaders. If I start at EGCC and then switch to YSSY (FlyTampa) all is well other than these texture issues.

Are you complaining about some software designed 6 years ago as Nick suggests - was this software designed for P3D version ?3? - or XP 9

I think that airports around that time designed by other than Orbx probably wouldn't even have jetways that weren't attached to buildings

Was SODE thought of back then?

Are you a customer like me? Are you saying I don't have the right to complain about jetways embedded in terminal buildings? No one is complaining about SODE. Default moving jetways are fine.

As a customer of UK2000 airports those never had embedded jetways. Just Ctrl+j ones which are fine because they can be removed. I've only known of one other airport with embedded jetways. Lisbon by Aerosoft. All others - and I have a lot - are moveable.

    Hello,

YMML is a product that is now six years old and clearly the developers did not use SODE for the jetways.

It is rather late in the day to be posting such disparaging messages for its developers.

Nick, I can accept Ctrl+J jetways because those can be disabled but what is not acceptable is static ones built into a terminal building. Those cannot be removed without the developer modifying his design. That was my point which I consider valid.

  7. Hi @StevenD, just came across your post having found the same unsatisfactory default jetways at YMML.

I would also add the terminal buildings leave a lot to be desired. I'll follow what you've done to get GSX jetways running. As for the static jetways it just shows how old this package is. I'll avoid those and hopefully after the GSX ones are in use I can live with the airport.

You'd think an Australian company producing an airport for one of their major cities would have more pride in their work.

Are usually check on the website when they have some kind of sale going on. I also get them by email sometimes. When they do go on sale I usually pick up several. Also the homepage shows specials going on mostly Microsoft but prepare 3-D is in there as well. I did purchase the one that was on special right now so I’m glad they’re doing that with prepare 3-D

It should be made easy for customers to find products on sale. Just look at SimMarket. If Orbx want to sell things they should make it as easy as possible for people to find bargains.

The number of new airports for P3D must be minuscule these days. All the emails I receive are for MSFS which I don’t own.

  9. I browsed through Orbx Central this morning to see what was available for P3D v5. I came across one airport that had a discounted price which I subsequently bought.

If it was easy to see all products that were on sale it might boost sales. Any chance you could do that please?

    Hello,

installing anything from Orbx, or for that matter, any developer at all, as a P3D add-on, does not touch any of the P3D default files.

As this is the case, any add-on can be disabled by simply unticking its entry in the P3D add-ons list and restarting the simulator.

But does selecting Uninstall on Orbx Central remove the Orbx installed files for FTX Global? It didn’t for me yesterday. Thousands of files remained after I uninstalled the three components of P3D. Those could only have been placed there by Orbx.

Unlike an airport addon which can be removed or disabled via an entry in add-on.xml there is no entry in the add-on.xml for FS Global. If you feel there is please point me to its location.

Not sure if you're having a lend of us Ray

John, I don't understand what you mean. Please elaborate.

Just a thought... you sure you don't have the OLC or similar products enabled where you are flying, as that would of course not show the default P3D textures.

I deliberately avoided areas where other scenery may have impacted on my comparison. Having uninstalled UTX products that only left a few addon airports where the scenery outside the airport is different to the default. I have Prague but haven't checked there. I will do so.

I did a comparison of England which used to be dreadful in FSX and earlier versions of P3D. That is now significantly better and very close to FTX Global. I also did before and after checks at FACT - Cape Town and again, the default textures are now much improved.

Until such time as Orbx provide a backup facility of default textures I wil not be installing FTX Global. It was once a must-have product but with the recent improvememts in default ground textures with P3D v5 that gap has closed significantly and in some places the defaults may be an improvement.

  12. Nick, at the very least Orbx need to display a warning regarding the installation of FTX Global.

If installing outside the P3D environment is the only way not to have the default textures overwritten that needs stating in large text. As things stand there is no recommended installation method leading people to believe installing inside P3D does not present a problem should the user wish to uninstall and revert to default textures.

What I had to do yesterday was the nuclear option and quite frankly, unacceptable.

  13. Okay Nick, what you’re saying is that the Uninstall option is effectively useless. Why doesn’t someone just remove it?

I started the discussion on AvSim as I was curious as to whether the work LM had done to improve the default scenery in v5 made products such as Ultimate Terrain X by Flight One and Orbx’s FTX Global redundant. After comparing screenshots with and without FTX Global I prefer the P3D textures. Purely subjective as you said earlier.

    the "uninstaller" was discontinued

Hi Nick, then how come I was able to select Uninstall in Orbx Central for FTX Global today? Sorry, but what you're saying doesn't match what I see on the Orbx software.

Check yourself. Having run it there was no confirmation that it had completed. Why is it there if it doesn't work? It's academic now really as I'm unlikely to reinstall FTX Global for P3Dv5.

  15. Hi John,

I remember the outcry many years ago when FTXG first came out and it was found that the original textures are not backed up before they're replaced. I thought that would have been changed by now. Seems not.

That is not a satisfactory method especially when there is no warning the user needs to do this before continuing with the install. Surely a simple batch file could do the job so why was that never implemented?

  16. Problem resolved. Despite uninstalling FTX Global thousands of files remained in scenery\world\texture. I uninstalled P3Dv5 and then deleted all those files.

A reinstall of P3D then followed but the default textures are very good so I’m holding off installing FTX Global for now.

I’ve no idea why the uninstaller didn’t remove those files.

  17. Having reinstalled FTX Global and taken screenshots and then repeated them having uninstalled it I can confirm there are no obvious differences.

It appears the info in the user manual is out of date. Installing FTX Global creates three new folders under D:\Orbx and it's there that the textures are installed. One for Europe, another for N America and a third for (presumably) the rest of the world.

That would explain why the scenery\world\texture folder file count was hardly any different.

This product now appears to be redundant with P3D v5.
