  1. Never mind, I deleted my %temp% files and it seems to have given up on updating FSX. Apparently job-cache.json was telling Central what to do(?). Anyway now Central works normally recognizing P3D v4 only, it just updated my Orbxlibs to v19.7.0 so it appears all is well now. We can mark this resolved, thanks.

  2. My primary sim is P3D v4 but I also have an old installation of FSXA (Gold) installed with some Orbx products from the good ole FSS days and even some ancient dev copies of a few products from my days as a developer/beta tester here. Couple weeks ago Orbx Central detected that FTX Global, 65S Bonners Ferry, and FTX NRM needed updates in FSX. I have "manual downloads" for 65S and Global which I used to install these into P3D v4 successfully so there's really no need to consume several Gb of bandwidth on yours and my end downloading these superfluous updates (I know Orbx Central has no way of knowing that but I can't seem to find a way to tell it, lol). I don't want to mess with my FSX installation right now, one day I'd like to start with a clean install and add all my Orbx stuff just so I have a 32 bit platform to run 32 bit add-ons like the Eaglesoft Citation X. I still want to use Orbx Central in P3D v4 however every time I start it it begins downloading these damn updates for FSX.

Here's what I've tried so far to get Central to forget about FSX for the time being:

-set auto-updating to "off" in Orbx Central

-specifically disabled the 3 above mentioned products on the auto-update page in Central

-Renamed the FSX folder "Microsoft Flight Simulator X.off"

-deleted the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\microsoft games\flight simulator\10.0 registry key (after making a backup)

-deleted the AppData\Roaming\Orbx\Central folder (after making a backup)

    -uninstalled and reinstalled Orbx Central

After all that FSX is no longer listed in Central as a sim selection anymore yet it persists attempting to download these updates for FSX! There must be a .cfg file or a reg entry or something I can edit or delete that's telling it to download these updates on startup but I'll be damned if I can find it. Where is it? How do I make it stop?

To be clear this problem started before the update to 4.1.1 and persists in the new version as well. Attached is the log file from AppData\Roaming\Orbx\Central prior to deleting everything and reinstalling Central.

    Thanks,

    Jim

Correct me if I am wrong, but do Orbx do many strips outside of their "full Fat" areas? I think not, but I may be wrong.. It seems to me that for the most part, Orbx try to place improved airports within parts of the USA that they have "improved" and to my mind that makes sense. What is the point of dropping isolated airports here and there in default textured areas? they would be a drop in the ocean amongst the thousands of strips around the USA. Better to concentrate on areas that the have improved in my opinion. Teecee.

The entire state of Idaho is covered by NRM and CRM so it's fully within the full fat areas already.

  4. I've been using FlashGet, I can't find where it has the capability of scheduling a download though but what I've done is set it all up with the link to the file and where I want it to be saved, close it, and then use the Windows task scheduler to start it again at 2:05 AM or something. When FlashGet starts up it automatically goes straight to downloading and then it just sits there on the desktop after it's finished until I wake up and close it.

Task scheduler is in Programs > Accessories > System tools (on Win7), then when you start it you'll see "Create basic task" on the upper right. It walks you through a wizard thing where you choose a bunch of options and tell it what date/time you want it to happen. I do "Trigger: one time at 2:05 AM on 12/17/2015" for example, and then "Action: Start a program" and then just browse to D:\MSFS\FlashGet 3\Flashget3.exe as the program to start. You could maybe do the same with IDM? I'm not sure as I've never used that one, but I imagine it would work the same?

  5. I had the HughesNet Gen4 service installed last May and I'm completely pleased with it. I just have the cheapie slowpoke plan, it's $50-ish bucks a month. I get about 1.7 Mb/sec pretty consistently, I just looked at my download manager's logs and I downloaded FTX global for example in 46 minutes. For $10 bucks more a month they'll double the speed but I'm cheap and I can live with 46 minutes without too much trauma, lol.

Well, hope everything goes OK with KFHR for you, have a great flight! :)

  7. If you're on satellite you probably have an off-peak data allowance, no? Mine's between 2 and 8 AM and I get 50 Gb per month to burn through during those hours every night without it affecting my anytime data allowance. I could nearly download the entire Orbx catalog monthly without ever exceeding my bandwidth allotment! I usually get up about 5:00 so I have 3 hrs to get all my downloading done, or just generally run amok on the internet without any alarm clock heroics.

  8. ...and we all know wings are notorious for falling off. ::)

I went helicopter firefighting in the late 80s and at that time a medium heli capable of lifting 335 gallons of water was being paid about $1200/hr. I wonder how much they get per hour with a DC10 tanker in 2015? :)

I'm feeling very fortunate at the moment as we did have some stage 3 evacuations about 20 miles away a week or so ago. It's been so smoky you can barely breathe at times but man I'm not complaining. Also very lucky that the last few storms that passed through have been basically lightning-free.

My sincere condolences to those that are currently evacuated and especially those that wont have homes to return to.

  9. I am too but my most recent Fleetwood Mac revival was just two weeks ago so I'm kinda burnt right now. Beautiful Child from Tusk is probably my favorite Fleetwood Mac song, that hasn't changed since I was 14, lol. I'm pretty diverse though, I really got into Cemetery Gates this evening. I think nothing of listening to a song 30 or 40 times when it's sounding good and I think I'm working on about #35 right now. :)

  10. I like to import the FTXG freeware airports .kmz into PlanG, I think you have to open the .kmz in GE once and save it off as a .kml first, but then you can load it in PlanG and see a little blue airplane at all of the enhanced airports. Makes it a lot easier (for me anyway) to figure out where I want to fly. This is PlanG v3 BTW, just click the KML button next to "Bookmark" to load your .kml.
