G'day All!
I just wanted to talk about, what I believe to be a great scenery opportunity! I know it's been brought up in the past on other forums but it's 2021 now and a lot has changed with the airport and deserves a review.
Australia V2 has added a couple of buildings to enhance YWLM atmosphere but I feel this should be it's own airport scenery purchase. YWLM (Military side) is the home to some of Australia's latest and greatest airframes including the 737 AEW&C, F35 Lightning II, PC-21 and the Hawk-127 Trainer. The home of 2OCU, 3SQN, 77SQN, 4SQN and 2SQN. The base trains Fighter Pilots using the Hawk-127 airframe. The Pilot will then convert to their assigned fast jet be it Super Hornets, F35 or growler at YWLM or other bases around Aus. Runway 12/30 has been extended to accommodate F35's lesser use of the extremely loud single engine afterburner which is not displayed in P3Dv5 or Orbx's Australia V2. There are now 5x Taxi way holding points A1-A5 and Bravo in the middle. as opposed to the older 4x Taxi way holding points including Bravo. AIRAC doesn't align.
YWLM (Civilian Side) is NAL - Newcastle Airport Limited. An airport that is increasing in demand every year. They pay the RAAF for its services (Tower, ARFF, land & aerodrome) this once small regional airport has turned into a multi-destination fully fledged domestic airport with common destinations such as YBBN, YSSY and YMML thanks to JetStar and Virgin Aus. Other many regional towns are also included using Q-link, Aero-Pelican etc. Tower services usually start at 0600AEST and end 2200AEST (pending Mil ops - it may extend or open early) outside of this time CTAF applies and ARFF drops to CAT4. The terminal has just been upgraded to accommodate international services bringing a new terminal, customs, upgraded security etc. Flights to and from New Zealand are increasing and regional international flights are just around the corner. Not to mention the latest announcement;
Further upgrades to runway 12/30 increasing width of the sealed surface to allow comfortable landing for aircraft such as 777's and A330's. It's going to create 1000s of jobs and works are expected to be completed by 2023. further terminal works and civilian RAMP works will probably co-align to accommodate larger airframes. This means...….even more international long haul destinations. Amazing for the local community and business and convenience of not having to travel into Sydney for Intl. flights.
In summary, I know this is a very popular airport, more-so than your Cessnock airport. It includes dozens of destinations afar and regional, Domestic and International. It's a no brainer. I know 100s of people would pay good money for it. It is the center hub for the Aus military and an up and coming international airport to take some strain of Badgerys Creek upcoming international airport and YSSY.
P.S. Badgery's Creek..........the airport that will take most of YSSY's International and domestic flights. If you get on top of this fast you may beat MSFS ASOBO, the construction is well under way. *hint hint .
Love your work guys!
