Yes re trees. We are looking at all aspects of the regions.

Good morning Anna, I hope you are well. I am a proud Orbx customer based in South East England and have purchased many of your products both for MSFS and X Plane 11. I now have a copy of X Plane 12, and have used the various methods to use my XPlane 11 true earth products in it, whilst being fully conscious that’s my choice and at present isn’t supported so it’s on me should anything go wrong.  As I train for PPL in real life, I have to say X Plane 12 wins hands down in terms of realism (in relation to my own real world experiences), therefore I am all in on X Plane 12. I just wanted to call out that any upgrades of existing XPlane 11 pay ware over to X Plane 12 should come with a cost associated it (perhaps this view might make me unpopular) I can’t wait for my existing Orbx products to be made officially compatible, but don’t expect it from yourselves for free. I want Orbx to invest in X Plane 12, so please make the business case case compelling for yourselves and price accordingly.  My wallet is ready :-)

To be perfectly honest - I don't know!! As with many things in the sim world, there's lots of conflicting views and/or advice out there.

However - as Orbx Central (in its current form) doesn't fully support XP12, I'd be more inclined to think that leaving that line out is an undesirable side-effect. Also - as regards *ordering* within the ini file - I'm not sure whether it's important in v12 or whether it does its own internal re-ordering. I've not done enough tests to know one way or another.

v12 is an early release beta, so we're all learning as we go.

Agreed.  Lots to learn, and thanks for your advice, it’s appreciated.  I have to say X Plane 12, even in its beta state + Orbx True Earth (Not officially supported) is already a winning combination.  Some of the flights I have had thus far have been beyond my imagination:  Flying the 172 around True Earth South, where I am learning to fly IRL, and low and slow over True Earth Canary Islands in the first officially compatible payware XP12 plane (Maule M-7-235B).  Happy flying :-)

Just an addendum to Nick's comprehensive instructions:

If you add/remove or reinstall anything via Orbx Central, your scenery_packs.ini file may remove the SCENERY_PACK *GLOBAL AIRPORTS* entry - which usually goes below all airport entries and above any Custom, Overlay or Ortho entries.

Thanks Adam. Would you have a view as to what the likely impact would be, if this entry wasn’t manually moved as you state?  The reason I ask is because I followed Nick’s ‘method 2’, this letting Orbx Central dictate the ini file.

  4. I must say I do love Orbx’s landmarks series. Always great interesting choices for locations. Although I do love to travel in real life, and have been fortunate to go to some incredible places, there are some locations which realistically I won’t get to in my life time. Maybe Panama Canal is one of those.  Orbx landmarks helps to provide a little bit of the magic of these locations and I find myself reading up on them loads so that I can really appreciate the flights I have around the landmarks scenery. Bravo!

Interesting about the popping buildings you're seeing.  Right through testing and even now I don't see any popping of objects or buildings!

I have medium to high settings with the objects LOD slider set to 400.  As you can see in my signature my system is nowhere near high end.

    Here's a video I just recorded:

The popping is very apparent at 1000 feet+ above.  The issue is with the LOD parameters that Matteo used. I know he has acknowledged to fix it so it’s not a matter of contention that the pop in is very obvious.  FYI low level flights, in your case a helicopter in

my case a Stearman, do not indicate LOD issues but that is because you are so close to the objects. Try flying GA a little higher up and it will become very clear.

Thanks Pilotplus for this release. Unfortunately there is an inherent poor performance which appears to lack optimisation. Very laggy when moving camera around. It’s the only airport in my collection that has performance issues. I have a high end machine so that’s not the issue. Would be grateful for continued efforts to optimise performance please. It has loads of potential so hoping can be improved.

Just a quick note to advise that my previous issues experienced have now been entirely resolved with the latest update offered by PilotPlus. Thanks to the developers, this is an awesome product which I can now fully appreciate now that is fully optimised. Thank you :-)

  8. I also received CTDs when I take off/land/in proximity of the Skydive runway. I do consider this to be a major bug which requires resolving please, as it has been my airport of preference since purchasing the Dubai landmarks on day one.  This bug has become apparent since sU5 only.  I have no other Addons in community folder and receive no other CTDs with any other scenarios across SU5.  Whilst I appreciate Orbx will not have caused this issue, I would be grateful if Orbx can work on the fix please. At this time I consider the Dubai pack unusable, which is a real shame as it is one of my favourites.

Prudhoe Castle and Currock Hill Glider Club would have been good additions. Glad to see Darlo Arena there - a key VRP for Teesside Airport.

Also I hope Raby Castle is in there because it's one of the best and most popular landmarks nearby for leisure flights.

I've also never heard of Callaly Castle however the main castles on the Northumberland Coast are: Lindisfarne, Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh, Warkworth.. All amazing. And it's spelt Coquet Island, not Coguet

I 100% concur.  The Northumberland coastal route won't be the same without all major landmarks along it.  The Flight from Newcastle to Edinburgh wont be the same without those mentioned.  Please give consideration as Makapala rightly calls out, as these are extremely famous landmarks, and when the new Indiana Jones film eventually comes out, all will understand why ;-)

  10. Well done Orbx, the airport and surrounding areas are exceptional.  I love the final approach in particular as it looks photo realistic for the most part. The only disappointing aspect is the excessive coast/shoreline LOD morphing/pop in. It does kind of detract from the otherwise beautiful scenery. I wonder if Orbx could combine products by creating their custom airport but also include terrain mesh out to a reasonable radius of the airport combined in the package. I thought the NZ mesh was incredible in minimising otherwise distracting terrain morphing.  I get that ultimately this is down to Asobo to fix, but it is such a shame in this case as it impacts Orbx’s great work on KAVX.

  11. What I am loving most here are the nice surprises. Many Airports are being announced that aren’t revealed in the roadmap. I love that Orbx have held back some surprises to keep us on our toes. Both Caernarfon and Shoreham are two of my all time favourites from XPlane, so it’s amazing to see announcements over last couple of days for MSFS. The discounts are the icing on the cake thank you. Day one purchases for me.

  12. Lots of great news to digest, however the stand out for me are the regional packs.  I take it these will be the Microsoft Flight Simulator equivalents of the True Earth series?  If so, that is absolutely fantastic!  Flying around Northern England and Scotland with stacks of Orbx quality VFR landmarks sounds captivating.  My debit card is already poised...take my money!  PS - don't forget about Southern England too ;-)

    Very nice indeed

I would not duplicate people (avatars) right in the same scene like in picture #4, the girl in white and gray dress is twice and that kills the realism

    Cheers

    Carlos

I share your sentiment Carlos.  The airport looks great, but duplication of those people models (only where the same models are close to one another), introduces unnecessary repetition and therefore breaks the immersion.  I would be grateful if the developers could take on this feedback.  Thanks!
